How much does the 2026 BMW X5 cost?

Prices have softened 5.50% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,516 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2026 BMW X5 a good car?

Yes — the 2026 BMW X5 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

The X5’s appeal is that it blends style, quality, comfort, tech, and performance in a way few rivals can match. It also gives you a wide spread of choices, from efficiency-focused versions to performance-oriented ones, so you can tailor the SUV to your priorities.

The trade-offs are clear: it is expensive, the price rises quickly with upgrades, and the least expensive versions still leave room for more equipment. The expert notes also point to poor ride quality and limited standard equipment.

With 34.9% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 BMW X5 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The X5’s appeal is reinforced by its premium build, comfortable seats, and strong overall execution. The expert notes also point to a well-rounded mix of style, quality, comfort, tech, and performance, which is the kind of combination that usually supports confidence over time.

BMW includes three years or 36,000 miles of scheduled maintenance, which helps reduce early ownership friction. The performance notes also describe the SUV as generally docile and quiet around town, with the more aggressive behavior reserved for sportier driving.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is cost: options can push prices up quickly, and upkeep on a luxury SUV can be expensive once the included maintenance period ends.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 BMW X5?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 96.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

Even with a strong clean-history rate, you should still run a vehicle history report and verify the specific car’s equipment, since the X5’s features vary a lot by trim and option package. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important if you’re considering a higher-output version or a heavily optioned example. Focus on condition, tire wear, brake wear, and whether the vehicle’s technology and driver-assistance features work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from the rear-wheel-drive sDrive40i to AWD xDrive40i, xDrive50e, M60i, and X5 M Competition. The base setup is the least expensive, but BMW notes that many desirable items are still optional, so you should check carefully for the equipment you want.
• Powertrain: BMW offers six-cylinder and eight-cylinder powertrains. The xDrive50e plug-in hybrid adds 38 miles of electric range, while the M60i uses a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.
• Safety package: The standard safety list includes high-beam assist, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, active blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, a speed limit assistant, a driver monitoring system, a collision preparation system, post-collision braking, and parking sensors. Adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, lane-change assist, automatic emergency stop, evasive steering assist, and Highway Assistant are part of the optional Driving Assistance Professional Package.
• Infotainment: The BMW Curved Display combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel with a 14.9-inch touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with iDrive 8.5, cloud-based navigation, SiriusXM 360L, and connected services.
• Fuel efficiency: The sDrive40i and xDrive40i are rated at 25 mpg combined, the xDrive50e plug-in hybrid offers 38 miles of electric range, and the M60i carries an official EPA rating of 19 mpg.

Which 2026 BMW X5 trim should I buy?

The 2026 BMW X5 is offered in 5 trim levels: sDrive40i, xDrive40i, xDrive50e, M60i, X5 M Competition.

Here's the short version:

• sDrive40i: This is the entry point if you want the lowest starting price and rear-wheel drive. It makes sense if you plan to add options selectively and want the broad X5 experience without paying for extra performance hardware.
• xDrive40i: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds AWD while staying in the core X5 lane. If you want the most balanced everyday version, this is the trim to start with.
• xDrive50e: Choose this if efficiency matters most. It adds plug-in hybrid capability, AWD, and 38 miles of electric range, making it the smartest pick for buyers who can charge regularly.
• M60i: This is the performance-focused sweet spot if you want serious power without going all the way to the top model. It brings the twin-turbo V8 character and the strongest luxury-performance feel in the lineup.
• X5 M Competition: Pick this only if you want the most extreme performance and are willing to pay for it. It sits at the top of the range and is best suited to buyers who want maximum capability and exclusivity.

BMW notes that many advanced safety features are bundled into the optional Driving Assistance Professional Package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 BMW X5?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right one.

• Deal availability: 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,516 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.50% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 96.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $70,817, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $70,850 sits slightly below last year's $74,975.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled enough to give buyers more leverage today than it did a year ago. For a future seller, that means resale value will depend heavily on how well your X5 is equipped and maintained, since the model’s pricing can swing quickly with options.

The good news is that the X5 still has strong appeal thanks to its blend of luxury, performance, and technology. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should continue to attract attention, even if the broader market has softened.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2026 BMW X5 safe?

The 2026 BMW X5 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and four-star ratings for the driver and front passenger in a frontal impact collision from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety equipment includes high-beam assist, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, active blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, a speed limit assistant, a driver monitoring system, a collision preparation system, post-collision braking, and parking sensors at the front, sides, and rear.

If you want more advanced driver assistance, BMW packages it in the optional Driving Assistance Professional Package. That adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, lane-change assist, automatic emergency stop, evasive steering assist, and Highway Assistant for hands-free driving at speeds up to 85 mph.

One caveat is that some of the more advanced functions are optional rather than standard, so you should verify exactly what the used vehicle includes before you buy.

Should I buy a 2026 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 96.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.50% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2026 stands out for its broad trim spread, from efficiency-focused versions to performance models.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $57,849, the 2025 costs less than the current year's $70,850 average.
• It offers multiple powertrain options and a comfortable driving experience.

The bottom line: Choose the 2026 if you want the broader current-market selection and are shopping for the latest version of the X5’s mix of luxury, tech, and performance. If price is your top priority, the 2025 is the better value path, especially if you want a well-established version at a lower entry cost.
