How much does the 2026 BMW X5 cost?

Prices have softened 5.02% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,617 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and options.

Is the 2026 BMW X5 a good car?

Yes — the 2026 BMW X5 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

The X5 is positioned as a midsize luxury SUV that blends style, quality, comfort, tech, and performance in a way few rivals can match. BMW also gives you a wide spread of choices, from efficiency-focused versions to performance models, so you can tailor the SUV to your priorities.

The trade-offs are clear: the ride can be poor on rough pavement, standard equipment is limited, and the price climbs quickly once you start adding options. Even so, the market signal is healthy, with 33.4% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2026 BMW X5 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The X5’s overall package points to strong day-to-day dependability for a luxury SUV: it combines premium materials, a well-developed cabin, and a broad powertrain lineup with a polished driving experience. The performance side is especially reassuring, with BMW’s six-cylinder and eight-cylinder options delivering strong acceleration and the plug-in hybrid adding an efficiency-focused alternative.

BMW also includes three years or 36,000 miles of scheduled maintenance, which helps reduce early ownership friction. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that upkeep and option-heavy repairs can become expensive once the warranty window closes.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 BMW X5?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 96.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and verify that the specific example you’re considering has a clean maintenance record. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on a luxury SUV like this, since option content and prior use can vary a lot from one listing to another. Focus on overall condition, because the X5’s appeal depends heavily on how well the cabin, electronics, and suspension have been maintained.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes rear-wheel-drive sDrive40i and AWD xDrive40i, xDrive50e, M60i, and X5 M Competition models. The base setup leaves out some desirable equipment, and BMW’s own materials show that even comfort and convenience items can be option-dependent.
• Powertrain: BMW offers a range of six-cylinder and eight-cylinder powertrains, plus a plug-in hybrid with 38 miles of electric range. The more efficient versions are the sDrive40i and xDrive40i, while the M60i focuses on performance.
• Safety package: The standard suite includes high-beam assist, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, active blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, a speed limit assistant, a driver monitoring system, a collision preparation system, post-collision braking, and parking sensors. Adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, lane-change assist, automatic emergency stop, evasive steering assist, and Highway Assistant are part of the optional Driving Assistance Professional Package.
• Infotainment: The BMW Curved Display combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel with a 14.9-inch touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with cloud-based navigation and connected services.
• Fuel efficiency: The sDrive40i and xDrive40i are rated at 25 mpg combined, and the xDrive50e plug-in hybrid offers 38 miles of electric range.

Which 2026 BMW X5 trim should I buy?

The 2026 BMW X5 is offered in 5 trim levels: sDrive40i, xDrive40i, xDrive50e, M60i, X5 M Competition.

Here's the short version:

• sDrive40i: This is the entry point if you want the X5 experience at the lowest price, and BMW says it can still be optioned with almost everything many buyers want. It makes the most sense if you plan to keep the build simple and value rear-wheel-drive packaging.
• xDrive40i: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds AWD while staying in the more efficient part of the lineup. If you want broad appeal without jumping into hybrid or performance pricing, this is the trim to focus on.
• xDrive50e: Choose this if you want the plug-in hybrid setup and the 38 miles of electric range. It’s the smart pick for buyers who can charge regularly and want a more efficiency-minded X5 with AWD.
• M60i: This is the performance-oriented choice, with a V8, strong acceleration, and the most upscale test-vehicle presentation in the lineup. It suits you best if you care more about speed, sound, and luxury presence than value.
• X5 M Competition: This is the most extreme version in the lineup and is aimed at buyers who want the highest-performance X5 experience. It’s the least practical choice for value shoppers, but it sits at the top of the range for a reason.

BMW notes that advanced driver-assistance features are not standard and are bundled in the optional Driving Assistance Professional Package.

• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.02% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 96.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $70,696, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $70,752 sits slightly below last year's $74,491.

That price movement suggests the X5 is currently in a softer buying window, which can help you as a shopper today but may also mean future resale values are adjusting downward from prior levels. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned when it’s time to sell.

The X5’s broad appeal, premium cabin, and strong performance help support demand, especially among buyers who want a luxury SUV with multiple powertrain choices. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2026 BMW X5 safe?

The 2026 BMW X5 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS and four-star ratings in frontal crash for the driver and front passenger, plus an overall four-star rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety suite is broad, with high-beam assist, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, active blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, a speed limit assistant, a driver monitoring system, a collision preparation system, post-collision braking, and parking sensors at the front, sides, and rear.

BMW’s optional Driving Assistance Professional Package adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, lane-change assist, automatic emergency stop, evasive steering assist, and Highway Assistant for hands-free driving at speeds up to 85 mph. One caveat is that some of these features are optional rather than standard, so you’ll want to confirm the exact equipment on any used listing.

Should I buy a 2026 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 96.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.02% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Five versions are available for 2026, giving you a wide spread of choices from efficiency to performance.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $57,180, the 2025 costs less than the current year's $70,752 average.
• It remains an established version of the X5 with multiple powertrain options and a comfortable driving experience.

The bottom line: Choose the 2026 if you want the broader current-market selection and are comfortable shopping a pricier luxury SUV with strong satisfaction and a softer price trend. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2025 is the better value-oriented path.
