Is the 2026 Acura MDX a good car?

The 2026 Acura MDX earns a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

It’s a polished three-row luxury SUV that emphasizes on-road comfort, quietness, and easy-to-use technology, which makes it a strong fit if you want a premium family vehicle that still feels approachable in daily driving. The styling and cabin presentation are major strengths, and the tech setup is a clear highlight.

The trade-offs are just as clear: the third row is cramped, fuel economy is poor, and there’s no hybrid option. It also leans more toward paved-road comfort than adventurous capability, so it’s best if your priorities are refinement and usability rather than maximum efficiency or off-road versatility.

With 38.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market offers a decent amount of value-oriented inventory.

Is the 2026 Acura MDX reliable?

The 2026 Acura MDX is described as a reliable vehicle intended for on-road use, with a solid, structurally robust feel and a comfortable, quiet highway demeanor. Its powertrain is presented as responsive and well-behaved, and the overall package is framed as dependable for everyday driving.

The performance notes also point to a well-sorted chassis and drivetrain setup, with the transmission behaving well and the brakes easy to modulate. Acura’s emphasis on quality and refinement supports the impression that this is a vehicle built to handle regular use without drama.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is that its efficiency and packaging compromises may matter more over time than any mechanical concern.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Acura MDX?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with more equipment. Focus on cabin condition, technology operation, and whether the vehicle’s features match the trim level you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base and Technology Package models come standard with front-wheel drive, while A-Spec and A-Spec Advance include blacked-out wheels and exterior trim, subtle styling changes, and bolder interior treatments. The base model also misses the Bang & Olufsen sound system.
• Powertrain: Most models use a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic. SH-AWD adds torque vectoring and increases towing capacity to 5,000 pounds versus 3,500 pounds for front-wheel-drive models.
• Safety package: AcuraWatch includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights are also standard, while parking sensors with low-speed braking are standard on most models and a surround-view camera is offered on more expensive variants.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, and Google Built-in. A 10.5-inch head-up display is also available.
• Fuel efficiency: The official EPA fuel economy estimate is 21 mpg combined, and real-world testing returned 17.9 mpg on one evaluation loop and 19.2 mpg over 160 miles.

Which 2026 Acura MDX trim should I buy?

The 2026 Acura MDX is offered in 6 trim levels: base, Technology, A-Spec, Advance, A-Spec Advance, and Type S Advance.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core MDX experience, but it’s the one most likely to feel stripped compared with the better-equipped versions. If you want the lowest starting price and can live without some premium extras, it’s the simplest way in.
• Technology: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more of the upscale tech and convenience that make the MDX appealing without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• A-Spec: Choose this if you want the sportier visual treatment, including blacked-out exterior details and a more aggressive cabin look.
• Advance: This is the comfort-leaning choice if you want a more premium-feeling MDX with a stronger luxury focus.
• A-Spec Advance: This combines the sportier styling of A-Spec with the richer equipment of Advance, making it the most balanced pick if you want both appearance and amenities.
• Type S Advance: This is the performance-oriented choice, with a more powerful twin-turbocharged V6 and other upgrades for drivers who want the quickest, most capable version.

Most MDX models include AcuraWatch, while parking sensors with low-speed braking are standard on most models and a surround-view camera is reserved for more expensive variants.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Acura MDX?

The market looks moderately favorable for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to make comparison shopping worthwhile.

• Deal availability: 38.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,114 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 95.9% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Acura MDX safe?

The 2026 Acura MDX earns an overall five-star rating from NHTSA for FWD models. The IIHS has not published ratings for the 2026 MDX, but the nearly identical 2025 model was an IIHS Top Safety Pick.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

AcuraWatch bundles the MDX’s driver aids, including forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights are also standard.

Most MDX models also get parking sensors with low-speed braking, while more expensive variants offer a surround-view camera system. One caveat is that the lane-departure warning can trigger steering-wheel wobble, and the lane-centering assist can cycle on and off in some situations.

Should I buy a 2026 Acura MDX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

• Choose the 2026 if:

  • 38.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
  • Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
  • It keeps the refreshed MDX formula focused on comfort, easy-to-use tech, and strong value among midsize three-row luxury rivals.

• Consider the 2025 if:

  • The refreshed model year already delivered the MDX’s major usability and refinement updates.

• The bottom line: If you want the latest version of Acura’s polished, comfort-first three-row SUV, the 2026 is the straightforward choice. If you’re shopping mainly on price, the 2025 can be the smarter path because it delivers much of the same core appeal with a likely lower asking price.
