How much does the 2025 Toyota Prius cost?

Prices have softened 7.60% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,441 listings available, which gives you a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2025 Toyota Prius a good car?

The 2025 Toyota Prius earns an expert rating of 6.67/10.

The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Toyota’s own overview and our expert evaluation both point to a Prius that leans on stylish design, easy-to-use technology, and strong safety ratings. It is aimed at you if you want a hybrid that still prioritizes efficiency, but it also tries to broaden its appeal beyond mpg alone.

The trade-offs are clear: real-world fuel economy in the test car fell short of the EPA estimate, and the cabin brings a cramped back seat and limited cargo space.

With 45.6% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2025 Toyota Prius reliable?

The 2025 Toyota Prius is built around a hybrid setup that pairs a 2.0-liter gas engine with electric assistance, and Toyota says the car is engineered on its TNGA platform for more responsive handling. That combination points to a modern, well-developed powertrain rather than a complicated or experimental one.

The expert evaluation also describes the Prius as sprightly, with enough power to feel zippy in traffic and comfortable on the highway. In addition, Toyota includes a long list of standard safety and driver-assistance features, which supports the sense that this is a thoroughly equipped mainstream hybrid.

Toyota also includes Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 as standard, along with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. The system adds proactive driving assist, and the test notes say it behaved more agreeably here than in some other Toyotas.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about mechanical drama and more about whether the car’s efficiency and practicality match your expectations over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Toyota Prius?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize an inspection that focuses on cabin space, cargo usability, and whether the car’s condition matches the mileage and asking price. If you are considering a higher-trim example, make sure the equipment you want is actually present on the car you are viewing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The standard lineup includes LE, XLE, Nightshade Edition, and Limited. The base trim gets the 8-inch touchscreen, while the larger 12.3-inch display is standard on the Limited and optional on XLE and Nightshade Edition.
• Powertrain: The hybrid setup uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engine and an 83-kilowatt electric motor for 194 horsepower; AWD adds a second 30-kW rear motor and raises output to 196 hp.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also standard, while a surround-view camera is available on the Limited.
• Infotainment: Every Prius gets Toyota Audio Multimedia with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The standard screen is 8 inches on LE, XLE, and Nightshade Edition, while the Limited gets 12.3 inches; the larger screen is optional on XLE and Nightshade Edition.
• Fuel efficiency: The test car averaged 39.2 mpg in real-world driving, while the EPA estimate was 52 mpg combined.

Which 2025 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?

The 2025 Toyota Prius is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, XLE, Nightshade Edition, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point if you want the Prius experience at the lowest price, and it still gives you the standard safety suite, wireless smartphone integration, and the 8-inch touchscreen.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim if you want a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to the top of the range, especially since you can add the larger 12.3-inch screen.
• Nightshade Edition: Choose this if you want the blacked-out styling treatment, black 19-inch wheels, and the more distinctive look Toyota added for 2025.
• Limited: This is the trim to buy if you want the most complete equipment set, including the standard 12.3-inch touchscreen and the available surround-view camera.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get the core driver-assistance package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Toyota Prius?

The market looks favorable if you are shopping now, because pricing has eased and there is still a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

• Deal availability: 45.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,441 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.60% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 89.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,868, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Toyota Prius's resale value?

The current average of $28,842 sits slightly below last year's $31,214.

That decline suggests the Prius is currently in a softer pricing phase, which can help you as a buyer today. For a future seller, it means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim rather than assuming the nameplate alone will hold pricing firm.

Because the year-round range runs from $27,868 to $31,202, well-kept examples near the upper end will need stronger equipment or cleaner history to justify their asking price.

Is the 2025 Toyota Prius safe?

The 2025 Toyota Prius earns a coveted Top Safety Pick+ nod from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave it five-star ratings in all crashworthiness assessments, as well as a four-star rating for rollover resistance.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also standard, and the Prius can add front and rear parking sensors plus automatic low-speed braking.

One caveat is that the lane-centering assist can feel argumentative on curving roads and can briefly lose its footing near freeway ramps.

Should I buy a 2025 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 45.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.60% compared with last year.
• The 2025 adds a Nightshade trim level with a blacked-out look and keeps the Prius focused on stylish design, easy-to-use technology, and strong safety ratings.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $29,535, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $28,842 average.
• It blends style, practicality, and affordability with up to five seats and up to 57 mpg combined.

The bottom line: If you want the better current-market value and the newer styling update, the 2025 is the smarter default choice. If your priority is simply getting into a Prius with strong efficiency and you find a cleaner or better-priced 2024, that older model can still make sense for price-sensitive shopping.
