Is the 2025 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2025 Toyota 4Runner earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Form and function, and Cost effectiveness.

It arrives as a long-awaited redesign that adds more capability, power, comfort, and technology, while also becoming more composed on pavement. It still keeps the rugged, all-terrain character that makes it appealing if you want a vehicle ready for rough terrain and longer adventures.

The main trade-off is limited rear-seat space, so you should weigh that against its strengths if you need maximum passenger room. The expert notes also point to a more contemporary powertrain lineup and a more refined driving experience than before.

The market shows 36.0% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2025 4Runner is presented as a durable, adventure-focused SUV with Toyota’s reputation for reliability behind it. The expert notes emphasize that it remains an accomplished off-roader while also being more composed and quieter on the road than the previous generation.

The standard four-cylinder is described as more powerful than the previous V6, and the hybrid adds stronger usable low-speed power. That combination points to a modernized drivetrain that should feel less strained in everyday use.

If you plan to keep it for the long haul, the biggest ownership risk is not mechanical confidence but whether the cabin space and ride balance fit your needs over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Toyota 4Runner?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report, confirm maintenance records, and prioritize a thorough inspection before you buy. Focus especially on how the truck has been used, since this model is built for rough terrain and trail duty.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans multiple trims, and the base setup is more straightforward than the higher off-road models. You should compare equipment carefully because the more capable versions add meaningful trail-focused hardware and features.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 317 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, while the hybrid raises output to 326 hp and 465 lb-ft. The hybrid is the stronger choice if you want more low-speed usable power and a bit more efficiency.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard and includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a traffic sign reader, and automatic high beams. A blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alerts is optional.
• Infotainment: An 8-inch touchscreen is standard on supporting trims, while a 14-inch screen is available. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are offered, along with a wireless charging pad and a digital instrument panel on hybrid variants.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard engine is estimated at 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. The hybrid is estimated at 23/24/23.

Which 2025 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2025 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 9 trim levels: SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Sport Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, Trailhunter.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point and the best fit if you want the lowest starting price and the core 4Runner experience without paying for extra trail or luxury equipment.
• TRD Sport: Choose this if you want a step up in appearance and road manners while staying close to the core formula.
• TRD Sport Premium: This makes sense if you want the TRD Sport idea with more comfort and convenience equipment.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the best-value trim for buyers who want the 4Runner’s off-road character without jumping to the most expensive adventure models.
• TRD Off-Road Premium: Pick this if you want the off-road hardware plus a more upscale daily-driving setup.
• Limited: This is the better choice if you care more about comfort and on-road polish than trail specialization.
• Platinum: Choose this if you want one of the more upscale versions and are willing to pay for it.
• TRD Pro: This is for you if you want the most capable factory-built off-road setup in the lineup.
• Trailhunter: This is the other top adventure-focused choice, aimed at buyers who want a highly capable overland-style setup.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 comes standard across the lineup, while blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts remains optional.

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right one.

• Deal availability: 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,367 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.20% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 94.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $48,700, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $49,000 sits slightly below last year's $53,375.

That price movement suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively if they want quick attention. The current year-round range shows that values can still move meaningfully depending on trim, condition, and equipment.

Because the model has strong owner satisfaction and a desirable rugged identity, it should continue to draw interest from shoppers who want a capable SUV. That helps support resale value over time, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2025 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2025 Toyota 4Runner does not yet have crash test results from NHTSA or IIHS.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard and includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a traffic sign reader, and automatic high beams. Proactive Driving Assist is also included, though the expert notes say it can feel too intrusive for some drivers, and you can disable it.

A blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alerts is optional, so you should check whether a used example has that added. Since formal crash ratings are still pending, you should pay close attention to the exact safety equipment on the vehicle you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2025 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.20% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a redesigned platform with more capability, comfort, and technology.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $47,149, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $49,000 average.
• It appeals if ruggedness and durability matter more than modern polish.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It emphasizes adventure and off-road ability while offering an available hybrid powertrain.

The bottom line: If you want the newest redesign with stronger power, better refinement, and modern tech, the 2025 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is saving money, the 2024 is the value play, while the 2026 is worth a look if you want to compare the next model-year setup before buying.
