Used 2025 Subaru Outback for Sale nearSanta Barbara, CA

How much does the 2025 Subaru Outback cost?

Prices have softened 7.26% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 6,830 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2025 Subaru Outback a good car?

Yes — it earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

The 2025 Outback stands out as a rugged wagon with standard all-wheel drive, great ride quality, and a practical shape that gives you something different from the usual crossover formula. It is especially appealing if you want everyday usability and confidence in poor weather without blending in.

The main trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and sluggish touchscreen response. If you value comfort, utility, and a distinctive body style more than quick acceleration or polished tech, the Outback fits that brief well.

With 34.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.

Is the 2025 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Outback’s reliability case is helped by its straightforward gasoline powertrain, standard all-wheel drive, and the way it is positioned as a practical, everyday vehicle rather than a complicated luxury model. Its expert evaluation also points to strong safety and solid overall usefulness, which matters when you plan to keep a used vehicle for years.

The performance notes also suggest a durable, familiar setup: a Boxer engine, a CVT, and standard AWD. On the cost side, the model’s ownership appeal is reinforced by the fact that Subaru includes a first scheduled maintenance visit on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a neglected example could feel less satisfying because the base engine and infotainment are already the weak spots.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Subaru Outback?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

Even with a strong share of clean listings, you should still run a vehicle history report and verify service records before you buy. A pre-purchase inspection is especially worthwhile if you are considering a higher-mileage example or a trim with more equipment. Focus on overall condition, since the Outback’s value depends heavily on whether it has been maintained well and whether the interior tech still feels responsive.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base and Premium trims use cloth upholstery and 17-inch wheels, while Onyx and Wilderness models get easy-to-clean StarTex synthetic leather. Limited adds a power moonroof, DriverFocus anti-distraction tech, navigation, a 360-degree heated steering wheel, and a portrait-oriented 11.6-inch infotainment system with leather and heated seats front and rear.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque, while XT trims use a turbocharged 2.4-liter engine with 260 hp and 277 lb-ft. The turbo model is the better pick if you want stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: EyeSight includes adaptive cruise control with lane centering, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency steering. Onyx and higher trims also add blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: Most models use an 11.6-inch touchscreen, while base models get twin 7-inch displays. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, wireless unless you have the base setup, and over-the-air capability is not mentioned.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.5-liter model earns 26 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined. Turbocharged XT models drop to 22 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The Wilderness model returns 21 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2025 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2025 Subaru Outback is offered in 6 trim levels: Base, Premium, Onyx, Wilderness, Limited, and Touring XT.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the entry point if you want the Outback’s standard all-wheel drive and practical wagon shape at the lowest cost, but it is also the trim most affected by the model’s weaker base-engine and tech compromises.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it keeps the core Outback formula while adding a more comfortable and better-equipped feel without pushing too far up the price ladder.
• Onyx: Choose this if you want the easier-to-clean StarTex interior and the added safety tech that comes with higher trims, especially if you drive in messy weather or want more confidence on the road.
• Wilderness: This is the pick for buyers who want the most adventurous version, with the highest ground clearance and extra off-road-oriented hardware and settings.
• Limited: This is the most balanced upscale choice if you want the added comfort and convenience features, including the larger infotainment setup and upgraded cabin equipment.
• Touring XT: This is the most premium and most powerful choice, with the turbo engine and the richest cabin equipment, but it makes the most sense if you are willing to pay for the top end.

Onyx and higher trim levels also add blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Subaru Outback?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully but not so much that the best listings should linger.

• Deal availability: 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,830 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.26% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 93.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $31,414, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $31,414 sits slightly below last year's $33,873.

That price movement suggests the Outback has softened enough to create a more approachable entry point for used buyers. For a future seller, that means resale value may be steadier if you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, but you should not expect a rapid rebound from today’s pricing.

The model’s distinctive wagon shape and broad usefulness help it stand apart from more common crossovers, which can support demand over time. Strong equipment, standard all-wheel drive, and a practical reputation also help keep it relevant in the used market.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2025 Subaru Outback safe?

The 2025 Subaru Outback earns a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist system includes adaptive cruise control with lane centering, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency steering. Onyx and higher trims also add blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert.

One caveat is that the lane-centering behavior can feel a little busy, with more side-to-side movement than ideal. DriverFocus can also produce occasional false alerts.

Should I buy a 2025 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.26% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It remains one of the last wagon-shaped alternatives in a crossover-heavy market.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $28,345, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $31,414 average.
• It keeps the raised wagon character and broad trim range.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It brings an all-new SUV-like redesign with more feature enhancements.
• It broadens appeal with stronger price, performance, and practicality.

The bottom line: If you want the current Outback’s distinctive wagon shape and a softer used price than last year, the 2025 is the right target. If your priority is saving money, the 2024 is the better value play. If you want the newest design and can wait, the 2026 is the more modern alternative.
