Is the 2025 Honda Civic Type R a good car?

The 2025 Honda Civic Type R stands out because it turns the familiar Civic formula into a serious front-wheel-drive performance car. Honda’s hot hatch has been refined over more than 25 years of development, and this version is described as the most accomplished yet. It keeps the manual-transmission tradition alive, which is a big part of its appeal for enthusiasts, and it pairs that with a polished chassis, sharp styling, and the kind of hardware buyers expect from a focused driver’s car.

Under the hood is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder VTEC engine that makes 315 hp and 310 lb ft of torque. Honda says the car can do 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds and reach 170 mph. The drivetrain remains front-wheel drive with a six-speed manual gearbox, and the car also uses a limited-slip differential, rev-matching, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, adaptive dampers, and Brembo four-piston front brake calipers. Fuel economy is listed at 22 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined, which is respectable for a car with this level of performance.

The 2025 Civic Type R also brings a more modern interior than its predecessor, with a nine-inch touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charging pad, cruise control, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system. The bright red sports seats remain a signature touch, though they will not suit everyone. On the downside, the car is expensive for a Civic, and some interior trim still shows its budget roots. Even so, its blend of capability, usability, and durability makes it one of the most appealing performance cars in its class.

With 36.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful share of the market to shop from without feeling rushed.

For a used buyer, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the basic formula and more about how hard the car was driven and maintained before you buy it.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Honda Civic Type R?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and verify that the car’s past matches the listing. Put the inspection focus on signs of hard use, uneven wear, and any condition issues that would matter more on a performance car than on an ordinary commuter. If possible, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can confirm the car has been cared for properly.

If you find a listing below $45,975, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Honda Civic Type R's resale value?

The current average of $47,444 sits slightly below last year's $47,939.

That modest decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy with less pressure today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained. A clean, well-kept example should hold up better than one that shows signs of heavy use.

Should I buy a 2025 Honda Civic Type R or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.03% compared with last year.

The bottom line: The 2025 is the right pick if you want the latest version of this manual performance hatch and you value a strong mix of capability, usability, and market availability. If you are more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may be worth considering, especially if you can find a cleaner example at a lower asking price.
