Why it stands out
The 2025 Ford Expedition stands out as a large SUV that combines interior space with strong towing capability, making it a practical choice for shoppers who need both. It is all-new for the 2025 model year, and Ford has kept the exterior styling subdued while giving the cabin a tech-forward look that feels impressively futuristic. The result is an SUV that aims to be both useful and modern, rather than flashy.
This model year also brings a new Tremor trim level, which gives the Expedition a more off-road-focused character and makes it the most capable version yet for venturing away from pavement. The Expedition is also described as surprisingly easy to drive in everyday circumstances, which is a useful trait for something this large. Its strengths include powerful engines and impressive technology, though buyers should be prepared for thirsty engines and for some tech features to require an additional subscription.

I compared this to the Tahoe, Navigator and Sequoia. I chose the Expedition for the rugged ability to tow, 4x4, and yet luxury of great suspension and decent gas mileage for size. The new 2025 dash is amazing. The 2026 packages are changing so I needed to purchase in 2025 to get all the stealth options , retractable running boards and avoid the increase in pricing.

Is the 2025 Ford Expedition a good car?
Yes — you rate it 5/5, and the expert rating is 7.5/10. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Technology.
The 2025 Ford Expedition is an all-new large SUV that prioritizes interior space and strong towing capability, so it fits you best if you need a practical family hauler that can also handle serious work. Ford also gives it a subdued exterior and a tech-forward cabin that feels impressively futuristic, which helps it stand out if you want utility without giving up a modern interior.
The trade-offs are clear: the engines are thirsty, and some tech features require an additional subscription. Even so, the Expedition’s combination of capability and everyday drivability makes it a compelling choice for shoppers who need a big SUV that can do more than just carry people.
32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2025 Ford Expedition reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2025 Expedition is built around a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6, and the expert evaluation says the powertrain has no problem moving the SUV’s substantial weight up to highway speed. It also feels well suited for long highway drives, and the transmission and suspension are described as quiet and composed in everyday use. That points to a vehicle that should feel settled and capable rather than strained in normal ownership.
Ford also includes a one-year complimentary access period for the connectivity package, which softens the initial ownership experience if you want the full tech suite. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic drivability and more about living with a large, complex SUV that can be expensive to fuel and maintain.
What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Ford Expedition?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially because this is a large, tech-heavy SUV with available off-road and towing hardware. Focus on overall condition, how the cabin electronics operate, and whether the vehicle’s equipment matches the trim you think you’re buying. If you want the hands-free driving tech, confirm exactly what is installed and whether any subscription-related costs will matter to you.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Active trim already brings a lot of equipment, including ActiveX synthetic leather upholstery, tri-zone automatic climate control, power-folding rear seats, and the 24-inch panoramic driver information display. Higher trims add nicer materials, and the Tremor brings a more off-road-focused setup with integrated off-roading lamps.
- Powertrain: Every 2025 Expedition uses a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6. The standard version makes 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque, while the Tremor gets a high-output version with 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque; that stronger engine is also available on Platinum.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, Pro-Trailer Hitch Assist, and Pro-Trailer Backup Assist. BlueCruise 1.4 is available on Active, Platinum, Tremor, and King Ranch.
- Infotainment: The Expedition uses a 13.2-inch touchscreen with built-in Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Google Play store. Wireless Android Auto or Apple CarPlay projection is supported, but the full Ford Digital Experience requires an active data plan.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates 2WD models at 16 mpg city, 24 highway, and 18 combined, while 4WD models are rated at 15/22/18.
Which 2025 Ford Expedition trim should I buy?
The 2025 Ford Expedition is offered in 4 trim levels: Active, Platinum, Tremor, and King Ranch.
Here's the short version:
- Active: This is the best-value trim because it already includes a lot of useful equipment, including the panoramic driver information display, tri-zone automatic climate control, power-folding rear seats, and the standard safety and trailering features. If you want the Expedition experience without chasing luxury extras, this is the trim to start with.
- Platinum: Choose this if you want a more upscale version of the Expedition and are interested in the available high-output engine. It builds on the Expedition’s strong tech and capability with a more premium focus.
- Tremor: Pick this if you want the most off-road-capable Expedition. It adds the high-output engine, 4WD, 33-inch all-terrain tires, skid plates, an electronic locking rear axle, and extra ground clearance, making it the right choice if you plan to leave pavement more often.
- King Ranch: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with significantly nicer materials and Del Rio leather seating. It makes the most sense if you want the most upscale cabin and are willing to pay for it.
BlueCruise 1.4 is available on Active, Platinum, Tremor, and King Ranch, so you can get the hands-free driving hardware without moving all the way to the top.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Ford Expedition?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,624 listings available.
- Clean inventory: 91.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $60,313.42, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2025 Ford Expedition safe?
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not yet rated the 2025 Ford Expedition, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety testing referenced here was performed on a previous-generation 2023 model. That older test result included only Moderate scores in the small overlap front and updated moderate overlap front tests, with Good scores in all other evaluations.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford equips the Expedition with a strong standard safety suite that includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, Pro-Trailer Hitch Assist, and Pro-Trailer Backup Assist. BlueCruise 1.4 is available on Active, Platinum, Tremor, and King Ranch, which adds hands-free highway capability if you want it.
The main caveat is that the available crash-test information does not fully reflect this redesigned model year, so you should treat the safety picture as promising but not fully verified by current testing.
Should I buy a 2025 Ford Expedition or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2025 if:
- 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The new Tremor trim gives this year a more off-road-focused character and makes it the most capable Expedition yet for venturing away from pavement.
The bottom line: If you want the newest Expedition with the most modern cabin, the strongest tech story, and the new Tremor option, the 2025 is the one to target. If you are more price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby model years and focus on the best-equipped example that still gives you the space and towing capability you need.
