How much does the 2025 BMW X5 cost?

Prices have softened 15.82% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 5,236 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for you to compare trims and prices.

Is the 2025 BMW X5 a good car?

The 2025 BMW X5 earns an 8.3/10 expert rating.

The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Technology, and Safety.

The X5 stands out as BMW’s midsize luxury SUV, positioned between the X3 and X7, and it’s aimed at you if you want a polished daily driver with strong handling and a comfortable ride. Its main trade-offs are value and equipment: it is not the strongest bargain in the class, and advanced safety features are not standard.

The expert team also notes that the X5’s multiple powertrain options help broaden its appeal, while its comfortable ride keeps it easy to live with. On the downside, weak value compared with rivals and the lack of standard advanced safety features are the biggest compromises.

Only 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you may need to shop carefully to find the best value.

Is the 2025 BMW X5 reliable?

The 2025 BMW X5 is presented as a well-rounded luxury SUV that meets expectations for interior space, driving dynamics, and tech. Its powertrain lineup is broad, and the six-cylinder models are rated at 25 mpg combined, which supports everyday usability.

BMW’s four-year/50,000-mile new-vehicle warranty is comparable to most rivals, which helps with peace of mind if you’re buying used and still have coverage left. The X5’s overall package suggests solid long-term usability, but you should still budget for luxury-SUV ownership costs and verify maintenance history carefully.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 BMW X5?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-trim or option-heavy example. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the equipment on the listing matches what you expect from the trim.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base models come standard with 20-inch wheels and run-flat all-season tires, while an optional M Sport Package adds sportier front and rear bumpers plus darkened Shadowline exterior trim. The Silver Anniversary Edition adds Lime Rock Grey paint, Shadowline trim, a sportier wheel design, and an off-road package, but it is more unusual than broadly appealing.
• Powertrain: You can choose a rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 375 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque, a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with 523 hp and 553 lb-ft, or a plug-in hybrid with 483 hp and 516 lb-ft. The plug-in hybrid also offers up to 39 miles of all-electric range.
• Safety package: Standard Active Driving Assistant includes lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and forward collision warning, but not adaptive cruise control. For that, you need the Driving Assistance Professional Package, which adds Highway Assistant. The standard Parking Assistant includes Reversing Assistant, while Parking Assistance Professional adds Active Park Distance Control, a 360-degree camera system, and Maneuver Assistant.
• Infotainment: The curved display combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. It runs BMW Operating System 8 and includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus voice recognition, steering wheel controls, augmented reality navigation, and digital key connectivity.
• Fuel efficiency: Six-cylinder models are EPA-rated at 25 mpg combined, with 23 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. The V8 model drops to 19 mpg combined, and the high-performance X5 M Competition is rated at 15 mpg combined.

Which 2025 BMW X5 trim should I buy?

The 2025 BMW X5 is offered in 5 trim levels: X5 sDrive40i, X5 xDrive40i, X5 xDrive50e, X5 M60i xDrive, X5 M Competition.

Here's the short version:

• X5 sDrive40i: This is the entry point if you want the X5’s core strengths at the lowest starting price. It gives you the standard six-cylinder powertrain and the same basic luxury-SUV formula, making it the most straightforward choice if you’re focused on value.
• X5 xDrive40i: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it keeps the same 375-hp inline-six while adding all-wheel drive. If you want the broadest balance of capability and everyday usability, this is the trim to target.
• X5 xDrive50e: Choose this if you want plug-in hybrid efficiency and the strongest electric-only range in the lineup. It also comes with standard air suspension, which adds to its appeal if you want a more advanced setup.
• X5 M60i xDrive: This is the pick if you want V8 power and quicker acceleration. It suits you if performance matters more than efficiency or purchase price.
• X5 M Competition: This is the top performance choice, aimed at buyers who want maximum speed and the most extreme version of the X5.

The standard safety package is solid, but adaptive cruise control requires an upgrade to the Driving Assistance Professional Package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 BMW X5?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you have room to shop, but the best listings may move quickly.

• Deal availability: 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,236 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.82% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 94.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $56,867, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $56,867 sits slightly below last year's $67,550.

That drop suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more affordably now. If you plan to sell later, the X5’s broad appeal and strong reputation should help, but you may not recover as much as you would have when prices were higher. For you, that means depreciation is a real factor, especially if you buy at the upper end of the range or add expensive options.

Is the 2025 BMW X5 safe?

The 2025 BMW X5 earned a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and a four-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal and rollover crash tests and five-star ratings in side crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard Active Driving Assistant includes lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and forward collision warning. If you want adaptive cruise control and Highway Assistant, you need the Driving Assistance Professional Package. The standard Parking Assistant also includes Reversing Assistant, while Parking Assistance Professional adds a 360-degree camera system, Active Park Distance Control, and Maneuver Assistant.

Should I buy a 2025 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.82% compared with last year.
• The 2025 adds a limited-edition anniversary model while keeping the X5’s strong handling and comfortable ride.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $50,443, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $56,867 average.
• It remains a delight to drive with about 40 miles of electric-only range.

Consider the 2026 if:

• At $70,535, the 2026 costs more than the current year's $56,867 average.
• It broadens choice with five versions and more option flexibility.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price and current-market availability, the 2025 is the sensible default. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2024 is the better value play; if you want more configuration breadth and don’t mind paying more, the 2026 is the upgrade path.
