How much does the 2025 BMW X5 cost?

Is the 2025 BMW X5 a good car?

The 2025 BMW X5 earns an 8.3/10 expert rating.

The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Technology, and Safety.

It stands out as BMW’s midsize luxury SUV, positioned between the X3 and X7, and it offers multiple powertrain options, strong handling, and a comfortable driving experience. The trade-offs are clear: it is not the strongest value compared with rivals, and advanced safety features are not standard.

With 36.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 BMW X5 reliable?

The 2025 BMW X5 is presented as an established model rather than a newly reinvented one, following a substantial update for 2024. That matters because you are shopping a version that has already had time to settle into BMW’s lineup.

Its powertrain lineup is broad, and the six-cylinder models are EPA-rated at 25 mpg combined, which supports everyday usability. BMW also backs the X5 with a four-year/50,000-mile new-vehicle warranty, which helps frame the ownership experience.

The X5’s long-term ownership risk for used buyers is mainly tied to complexity and option content, so you should pay close attention to maintenance history and equipment condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 BMW X5?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on higher-optioned examples. Focus on wear, electronics, and whether the vehicle’s equipment matches the listing description.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base models come standard with 20-inch wheels and run-flat all-season tires, while M Sport versions add sportier bumpers and darkened exterior trim. The Silver Anniversary Edition adds Lime Rock Grey paint and an off-road package.
• Powertrain: You can shop rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive six-cylinder models, a V8-powered M60i, and a plug-in hybrid xDrive50e. The six-cylinder models balance performance and efficiency well, while the hybrid adds electric-only driving range.
• Safety package: Standard Active Driving Assistant includes lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and forward collision warning, but not adaptive cruise control. That requires the Driving Assistance Professional Package, which adds Highway Assistant.
• Infotainment: The curved display combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. It includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus BMW Operating System 8.
• Fuel efficiency: Six-cylinder X5 models are EPA-rated at 25 mpg combined, with 23 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. The xDrive50e plug-in hybrid is rated for up to 39 miles of all-electric range.

Which 2025 BMW X5 trim should I buy?

The 2025 BMW X5 is offered in 5 trim levels: X5 sDrive40i, X5 xDrive40i, X5 xDrive50e, X5 M60i xDrive, X5 M Competition.

Here's the short version:

• X5 sDrive40i: This is the entry point if you want the X5 experience at the lowest starting price, and it still gives you the core six-cylinder setup and the standard tech and safety basics.
• X5 xDrive40i: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds all-wheel drive while keeping the same balanced powertrain and everyday usability.
• X5 xDrive50e: Choose this if you want the plug-in hybrid setup and the added electric-only driving range, along with standard air suspension.
• X5 M60i xDrive: This is the pick for buyers who want V8 power and quicker acceleration, along with the more performance-focused hardware.
• X5 M Competition: This is the top performance choice if outright speed matters most, but it sits far above the rest of the lineup in price.

For safety equipment, adaptive cruise control and Highway Assistant require the Driving Assistance Professional Package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 BMW X5?

The market looks moderate and selective, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 36.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,246 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.39% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 94.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $57,075, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $57,075 sits slightly below last year's $67,453.

That drop suggests the X5 is currently in a softer pricing phase, which can help you as a buyer today. If you plan to sell later, the same trend means resale values may remain under pressure unless market conditions improve.

For a future seller, the key takeaway is that well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than plain-spec versions. Strong condition and the right trim mix will matter more when the market is already moving downward.

Is the 2025 BMW X5 safe?

The 2025 BMW X5 earns a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and a four-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, with four stars in frontal and rollover crash tests, and five stars in side crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard Active Driving Assistant includes lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and forward collision warning. Adaptive cruise control is not standard, and you need the Driving Assistance Professional Package to get Highway Assistant.

Should I buy a 2025 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 36.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.39% compared with last year.
• It adds a limited-edition 25th-anniversary model and keeps the updated 2024-era package.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $50,500, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $57,075 average.
• It delivers a plug-in hybrid setup with about 40 miles of electric-only range.

Consider the 2026 if:

• At $70,634, the 2026 costs more than the current year's $57,075 average.
• It broadens the lineup with five versions and more ways to tailor performance.

The bottom line: The 2025 is the right path if you want the updated X5 with strong handling and a broad powertrain lineup. If price matters most, the 2024 is the smarter value play.
