CarGurus Analysis: 2025 BMW X5 M
Summary
With 134 currently listed for sale and an average price of $100,204, 26.9% of 2025 BMW X5 M listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
94.0% of 2025 BMW X5 M listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2025 BMW X5 M stands out because it sits within a lineup that BMW has long positioned around driving dynamics rather than just utility. The X5 is built on a rear-wheel-drive platform, and BMW says it is available with inline-six or V8 engines, with xDrive all-wheel drive offered as well. It is also described as a midsize, two-row, five-passenger SUV with roomy interior space, outstanding visibility, and generous cargo room, which helps explain why it appeals to buyers who want a practical luxury SUV without giving up the brand’s performance focus.
For the 2025 model year, the X5 M is part of the fourth-generation X5 family, which had already received major changes for 2024. That refresh brought a sharper exterior, a BMW Curved Display, and a new standard six-cylinder engine with more power and better fuel economy, while the V8-equipped models added mild-hybrid technology to improve output and efficiency. The broader lineup also includes the X5 M, which the source notes is considerably more expensive than standard models, but that premium reflects its performance-oriented role in the range.
There are tradeoffs to consider. BMW’s split tailgate design has drawbacks when reaching items that have rolled forward in the cargo area, and the X5’s reliability record is described as unimpressive overall. V8-engined X5s are also not fuel-efficient, which raises ownership costs. Even so, the 2025 BMW X5 M remains distinctive for combining luxury-SUV practicality with the sharper handling and high-performance character that have long defined the X5 name.

Is the 2025 BMW X5 M a good car?
The 2025 BMW X5 M is a strong pick if you want a midsize, two-row, five-passenger luxury SUV that still prioritizes driving dynamics. The overview describes it as roomy, with outstanding visibility and generous cargo room, so you get real everyday utility alongside BMW’s performance focus. It also sits in a lineup that BMW has long positioned around sharper handling rather than pure practicality, which is the main reason it stands out.
That said, the X5 M is considerably more expensive than standard X5 models, and the broader lineup’s V8 versions are not fuel-efficient. Even with those tradeoffs, it remains appealing if you want a practical luxury SUV with a performance-first character. 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2025 BMW X5 M reliable?
The 2025 BMW X5 M is described as part of a lineup with an unimpressive reliability record overall. The overview also points to ownership costs that can rise over time, especially with V8-powered versions that are not fuel-efficient.
For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is higher than you’d want in a low-stress daily driver, so you should plan for careful maintenance and a thorough pre-purchase check.
What should I look for when buying a used 2025 BMW X5 M?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a history report and verify that the vehicle’s service records match its mileage and age. Put the inspection priority on wear items, signs of prior damage, and any evidence of expensive repairs, since this is a high-performance luxury SUV. Focus on overall condition and maintenance consistency rather than just the asking price.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 BMW X5 M?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and compare examples carefully.
- Deal availability: 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 133 listings available.
- Clean inventory: 94.0% of listings are accident-free.
Should I buy a 2025 BMW X5 M or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
- Choose the 2025 if:
- 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
The bottom line: The 2025 is the right path if you want the latest version of this performance-focused luxury SUV and you’re comfortable shopping carefully within a limited pool. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may give you a lower entry point while still delivering the X5 M’s core appeal.
