What’s New for the 2024 Toyota Corolla

The stylish Nightshade Edition returns to the Toyota Corolla lineup for 2024, but otherwise, this practical small sedan carries over unchanged. The Corolla was refreshed for 2023 with new headlights, a new grille design, an updated infotainment system, and a streamlined trim lineup, consisting of LE, SE, and XSE models. The Corolla is also available as a hatchback, a hybrid, and a high-performance GR Corolla hatchback, all of which are reviewed separately.

Design

Though Toyota takes a sporty approach to the Corolla Hatchback, the basic sedan is simpler and more sedate, inside and out. You’ll need to pay extra for upgrades like 16-inch alloy wheels (though the SE trim and up come with 18-inch alloys). The Corolla isn’t exciting—even recent refreshes like front lighting are as much for function as for form—but it all serves a purpose. For more visual interest, go for the Nightshade Edition, which adds darkened trim elements along the exterior and throughout the cabin.

Powertrain

The 2024 Toyota Corolla comes with just one powertrain across the lineup (except for the high-performance GR Corolla, which is a separate model). It gets a 2.0-liter engine rated for 169 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive (FWD). The Corolla sedan is EPA-rated for 32 mpg city, 41 mpg highway, and 35 mpg combined, though the XSE model’s bigger wheels sacrifice 1 mpg across the board.

Interior

The Corolla sedan has a functional, simple cabin with standard cloth upholstery and seating for five passengers. Synthetic leather upholstery is optional, along with a moonroof, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, push-button start, and proximity keyless entry. The sedan has 13.1 cubic feet of space in the trunk, which is on the small side for the segment.

Technology

The 2024 Corolla comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display and a 4.2-inch driver information display. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are a key feature of the infotainment system, which also includes voice recognition, navigation, Wi-Fi, and a six-speaker audio system. Options include a 7-inch digital gauge cluster and wireless smartphone charging.

Safety

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the Corolla Hatchback a Top Safety Pick rating, while the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the Corolla an overall rating of five out of five stars, with a four-star rollover rating. The Corolla comes standard with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, traffic-sign recognition, a rear-seat alert system, and a reversing camera. Rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring are optional.

Pricing

The 2024 Toyota Corolla is available now. As of this writing, Toyota lists pricing for the 2024 Corolla sedan lineup starting at $22,050 for the base LE trim. The SE costs $24,490, and the Nightshade, which is based on the SE, costs $25,490. The Corolla XSE tops the sedan lineup for $27,150.
