Used 2024 Subaru Ascent for Sale nearSan Jose, CA

How much does the 2024 Subaru Ascent cost?

Prices have softened 9.96% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,954 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2024 Subaru Ascent a good car?

Yes — the 2024 Subaru Ascent earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

The Ascent’s appeal is rooted in its three-row layout, standard all-wheel drive, substantial ground clearance, and family-friendly practicality. It’s a straightforward choice if you want Subaru’s familiar formula in a midsize SUV package, especially if you value capability and confidence over flash.

The trade-offs are clear: its fuel economy is unimpressive, its interior design is outdated, and its lane-centering technology can be irritating.

36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 Subaru Ascent reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2024 Ascent leans into Subaru’s reputation for safety-minded engineering, with a high-strength steel platform and standard EyeSight driver assistance. Its expert evaluation also points to a strong value proposition and a family-focused design that should hold up well for everyday use.

The performance notes are reassuring for ownership: the turbocharged 2.4-liter engine delivers good power, and the CVT is tuned to behave more like a conventional automatic than many shoppers might expect. On the cost side, the Ascent is described as a good value compared with similarly equipped rivals, and Subaru’s standard all-wheel drive adds to its practical appeal.

If you plan to keep one long term, the biggest ownership risk is that its real-world fuel economy can be disappointing, especially for a larger family SUV.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Subaru Ascent?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing examples with different mileage, trim levels, or option packages. Focus on overall condition, interior wear, and how the driver-assistance tech behaves on a test drive, since that system can be a deciding factor in daily use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup runs from Base through Touring, and the higher trims add meaningful comfort and convenience equipment. The Touring trim brings a panoramic sunroof, premium Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a navigation system, a 14-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system, a camera-based rearview mirror, and a surround-view camera, while the base trim is the most stripped-down version.
• Powertrain: Every 2024 Ascent uses a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and standard all-wheel drive. Subaru says towing capacity reaches 5,000 pounds, though the Base trim is rated for 2,000 pounds.
• Safety package: EyeSight is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, evasive steering assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert requires moving up from Base to Premium.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses an 11.6-inch portrait touchscreen with Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and text-messaging capability. Connected services, a Wi-Fi hotspot, navigation, and the premium audio system are available as you move up the lineup.
• Fuel efficiency: With 20-inch wheels, the Ascent is rated at 19 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined. In testing, it returned 16.7 mpg in city driving and 18.6 mpg overall.

Which 2024 Subaru Ascent trim should I buy?

The 2024 Subaru Ascent is offered in 6 trim levels: Base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Limited, Onyx Edition Limited, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the entry point, but it’s also the trim where you give up the most convenience and safety-adjacent equipment. It makes sense only if you want the lowest starting price and are comfortable with a more basic setup.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert, which is a meaningful safety upgrade over Base.
• Onyx Edition: Choose this if you want a more distinctive look and a richer equipment mix than the lower trims, while staying below the upper luxury-oriented versions.
• Limited: This is the trim to target if you want a more upscale daily driver without jumping all the way to Touring. It adds a more premium feel and sits in the sweet spot for many family buyers.
• Onyx Edition Limited: This is the better pick if you want the Limited’s equipment with the Onyx Edition’s darker styling treatment.
• Touring: This is the top trim and the one to buy if you want the most complete Ascent experience, including the panoramic sunroof, Nappa leather, ventilated front seats, navigation, premium audio, camera-based rearview mirror, and surround-view camera.

The safety-package gap to remember is that blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert starts at Premium, so Base shoppers should factor that into the value equation.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Subaru Ascent?

The market looks moderate and selective, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,954 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.96% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 91.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $32,575, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Subaru Ascent's resale value?

The current average of $32,575 sits slightly below last year's $36,176.

That price movement suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, which can also mean future sellers may need to price more competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you’re starting from a lower entry point than a year ago, which can help soften depreciation pressure later.

The Ascent’s strong safety reputation and family-friendly utility should help support demand over time, especially among shoppers who want standard all-wheel drive in a three-row SUV.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Subaru Ascent safe?

The 2024 Subaru Ascent earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA assessments except rollover resistance, where it earns a four-star rating, and it received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

EyeSight is the standard driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, evasive steering assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is not standard on Base and requires stepping up to Premium, while higher trims can add automatic reverse braking and Driver Focus.

The main caveat is the lane-centering assist system, which can be overly assertive and inconsistent in some driving situations. That doesn’t erase the Ascent’s strong crash-test and active-safety credentials, but it is worth paying attention to on your test drive.

Should I buy a 2024 Subaru Ascent or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2024 model continues with almost no changes, so you’re getting the refreshed Ascent formula without paying for a major redesign.

The bottom line: If you want the current Ascent’s standard all-wheel drive, strong safety credentials, and family-friendly packaging, the 2024 is the cleanest choice. If you’re especially price-sensitive, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2024’s softer pricing and strong inventory make it a sensible target right now.
