About 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross
Automakers have a funky habit of reviving classic vehicle names for use on new models that don’t always carry the same attitude, or even body style, of the original. That’s the case with the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, which took the name of the brand’s iconic sports coupe and applied it to a not-so-exciting crossover with questionable design decisions. ## What’s New for the 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross The Eclipse Cross picked up new standard features for 2024, including a hands-free tailgate with foot sensors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, and a rear USB port. ## Design The Eclipse Cross debuted several years ago with a weird split rear window and funky, aggressive front styling. While the front end hasn’t changed much, Mitsubishi did away with the polarizing rear design, opting for a single rear window instead. ## Powertrain Mitsubishi offers a single powertrain choice for 2024. It’s a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder making 152 horsepower. The SUV gets standard all-wheel drive (AWD) and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Though power is decent, the CVT dulls the experience and lets the engine wail under heavy throttle. That said, the Eclipse Cross’s handling and ride quality are both decent. ## Interior Cloth upholstery comes standard, and leather is available in higher trims. The base model misses out on heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and other niceties, but buyers can add those features with a move to higher trims. The range-topping SEL model gets synthetic suede, giving it a sporty feel with excellent support and body grip in cornering. ## Technology Mitsubishi equips a 7-inch touchscreen with four speakers, HD radio, Bluetooth, and a USB port. The SUV is available with a larger 8-inch display that brings navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, more USB ports, and an upgraded stereo. The automaker’s infotainment system is mostly straightforward, but the interface is dated. Even so, it offers a responsive way to interact with the SUV that doesn’t distract too much from driving. The lack of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the base trim is a big disappointment, though, as almost all of the Eclipse Cross’s rivals have that connectivity. ## Safety The 2024 Eclipse Cross comes with a handful of advanced driver aids, but the best features require stepping up in trim levels. It comes standard with lane-departure warning, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a rearview camera, and pedestrian detection. Available tech includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, lane-change assist, rear parking sensors, a head-up display, and a surround-view camera. The 2024 Eclipse Cross hasn’t been crash-tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) yet, but the 2023 saw mixed results, with “Poor” scores in several categories. ## Pricing As of this writing, the 2024 Eclipse Cross starts at $26,345. The mid-range LE trim starts at $27,995, the almost-top SE trim at $29,045, and the top SEL at $30,445.
