Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz a good car?

Generally — 4.3/5 from users and 7.8/10 from experts, the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz is a compact trucklet that blends pickup utility with a quirky personality. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

It brings a stylish design, a powerful engine, and a great warranty, and it’s aimed at buyers who want weekend utility without a traditional truck footprint. The trade-offs are clear: it is not the most efficient choice, and the back seat is cramped. The expert notes also point to a peppy powertrain and strong on-road manners, which help offset the unusual shape.

There are 31.4% good or great deals in the market, so you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Santa Cruz’s reliability case is helped by its strong warranty coverage and three years or 36,000 miles of free maintenance. The expert notes also emphasize that it’s a great little runabout with excellent on-road manners, which supports the idea that it should be easy to live with over time. Its powertrain and everyday usability are presented as strengths rather than weak points.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the truck’s efficiency and rear-seat space may feel limiting if your needs grow beyond light-duty use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one that may have seen rough roads. Focus on overall condition, tire wear, and signs of hard use in the bed and cabin. If you want the more desirable equipment, compare trims carefully because the feature spread is meaningful.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE, SEL, Night, XRT, and Limited trims differ meaningfully, with the upper trims adding a more upscale feel and more equipment. The base SE is the most stripped-down version, while the Limited brings the most premium presentation.
• Powertrain: Lower trims use a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 191 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic, while the turbocharged setup delivers 282 hp and a more energetic driving experience. The non-turbo engine may feel underpowered, especially in heavier use.
• Safety package: All trims get forward collision avoidance with pedestrian detection, blind-spot collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, lane-keep assist, lane-following assist, safe exit warning, and rear occupant alert. XRT and above add adaptive cruise control and forward-collision avoidance with pedestrian-, cyclist-, and junction-turning detection.
• Infotainment: SE and SEL trims get an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Upper trims move to a 10.25-inch display, but smartphone compatibility becomes wired only.
• Fuel efficiency: The AWD tester returned 19 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined, and the weeklong test average was 23.3 miles per gallon.

Which 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz trim should I buy?

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, Night, XRT.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and are comfortable with the simpler setup. It gets the core Santa Cruz formula, but you give up some convenience and tech features found higher up.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful everyday equipment without pushing you into the pricier upper end of the range. It also keeps the 8-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone integration, which is a practical advantage.
• Night: Choose this if you want a darker, more distinctive appearance and a more style-forward version of the Santa Cruz. It’s for buyers who care about visual flair as much as utility.
• XRT: This is the trim to consider if you want the more adventurous look and the added driver-assistance content that comes with it. It also marks the point where adaptive cruise control and the expanded forward-collision system arrive.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, but XRT and above add more advanced driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,764 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.81% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,587, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz's resale value?

The current average of $26,587 sits slightly below last year's $29,156.

That softer pricing suggests the Santa Cruz has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to stay competitive on price. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pain later. The model’s broad appeal, strong warranty reputation, and distinctive positioning should help support demand, even if its niche styling narrows the audience somewhat.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz safe?

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz earns five-star ratings in front crash and four-star ratings in rollover from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Hyundai gives every trim a comprehensive set of driver-assistance features, including forward collision avoidance with pedestrian detection, blind-spot collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, lane-keep assist, lane-following assist, safe exit warning, and rear occupant alert. XRT and above add adaptive cruise control and forward-collision avoidance with pedestrian-, cyclist-, and junction-turning detection. The Limited also adds Highway Drive Assist and a blind-spot view monitor.

One caveat is that the 2024 model has not yet been rated by IIHS, so you’re leaning more on equipment content and NHTSA results than on a full current crash-test picture.

Should I buy a 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.81% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2024 adds a few new additions while staying true to the Santa Cruz formula.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $29,275, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $26,587 average.
• It adds new tech, styling updates, and off-roading enhancements.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2024 is the smarter buy because pricing has softened and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to spend more for the newer model’s updates, the 2025 is the better path; price-sensitive buyers should stick with the 2024 and shop for a clean, well-equipped example.
