How much does the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 11.20% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 9,755 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 a good car?

Yes — the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 earns a 4.64/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its powerful engine, comfortable and spacious interior, and well-equipped features. The design and luxury touches also come up often, along with the truck’s attractive styling compared with competitors.

The main trade-offs are its value-for-money weakness and some owner concerns around emissions controls and infotainment reliability. That fits the Sierra’s role as a truck that can be configured as a basic work vehicle, an off-roader, or a luxurious long-distance cruiser, rather than a simple one-size-fits-all pickup.

With 37.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive price if you shop carefully.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.64/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a truck that feels powerful, comfortable, and well equipped, with several mentions of its strong design and luxury appeal. That kind of praise usually lines up with a vehicle people feel good about living with over time.

The expert evaluation also emphasizes smooth power delivery, a well-mannered 10-speed automatic, and a diesel engine that feels especially suited to towing without hurting everyday drivability. GMC also backs the truck with a three-year, 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a five-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some advanced tech and emissions-related concerns can affect satisfaction if the truck wasn’t maintained carefully.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 GMC Sierra 1500?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-trim truck with more electronics and driver-assistance equipment. Focus on overall condition, signs of hard use, and whether the features you want actually work as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup runs from Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. The base Pro is aimed at commercial fleets, while the higher trims add more luxury, off-road hardware, and convenience features. Base models are notably simpler, including a more basic infotainment setup and fewer upscale touches.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, 5.3-liter V8, 6.2-liter V8, or Duramax 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-six. The diesel stands out for its torque and fuel economy, while the V8s add more traditional full-size-truck muscle.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and a rear-seat reminder. Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, park assist, and the Safety Alert driver’s seat are optional. Super Cruise is available on Denali and Denali Ultimate models.
• Infotainment: Base Pro models get a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. SLE and higher trims add a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 13.4-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Google Built-In.
• Fuel efficiency: The Duramax diesel is EPA-rated at 25 mpg combined with RWD and 24 mpg combined with 4WD. The TurboMax four-cylinder can reach 20 mpg combined in some configurations, while the V8s return a few mpg less.

Which 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Pro: This is the work-focused starting point, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest entry price and don’t need much luxury equipment. It comes with the basic 7-inch infotainment setup, so it’s best for fleet use or buyers who want a no-frills truck.
• SLE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the larger 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 13.4-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone integration and Google Built-In. It gives you the biggest jump in everyday usability without pushing into luxury-truck pricing.
• Elevation: Choose this if you want a more stylish look than the SLE while staying on the practical side of the lineup. It builds on the better tech foundation and adds a more upscale appearance without jumping all the way to premium-trim pricing.
• SLT: This is the right step if you want a more comfort-oriented truck with a stronger upscale feel. It sits in the middle of the range and is a good fit if you want more refinement without going all the way to the luxury-focused trims.
• AT4: Pick this if you want the off-road-oriented setup, including the 2-inch lift, Rancho monotube shocks, locking rear differential, and skid plates. It also gets the Duramax diesel as standard for 2024, which makes it especially appealing if you want torque and efficiency with trail hardware.
• AT4X: This is the more serious off-road choice, adding a front locker and more sophisticated Multimatic DSSV dampers. It’s the trim to target if you want the most capable trail-focused version short of the AEV Edition.
• Denali: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with the signature chrome grille and available upscale features like 22-inch wheels and power running boards. It suits you if you want the Sierra’s premium personality without going all the way to the top.
• Denali Ultimate: This is the most lavish version, and it’s the one to buy if you want the fullest expression of the Sierra’s comfort and tech. It layers in the richest feature content, including the kind of cabin amenities that make the truck feel closest to a luxury vehicle.

Safety-package note: Super Cruise is available on Denali and Denali Ultimate models, while several other driver-assistance features remain optional rather than standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 GMC Sierra 1500?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,755 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.20% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 92.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $47,175, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

The current average of $47,175 sits slightly below last year's $53,128.

That decline suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means sellers may need to price more competitively to move a truck quickly. If you’re planning to sell later, the current trend shows that Sierra 1500 values can soften when supply is healthy and shoppers have choices.

The upside is that well-equipped trucks with strong demand can still hold attention, especially when they combine comfort, capability, and desirable features. Higher satisfaction from owners can help support demand when it’s time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.64/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 safe?

The 2024 Sierra 1500 Crew Cab earns Good ratings in the IIHS driver-side small overlap front, original moderate overlap front, and original side crash tests, but Marginal in the passenger-side small overlap front test and Acceptable in the updated side crash test. It earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star side-crash protection and four-star rollover and frontal crash ratings.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The Sierra comes with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and a rear-seat reminder as standard equipment. Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, park assist, and the Safety Alert driver’s seat are optional.

The main caveat is that crash performance is uneven for a vehicle in this class, especially in the passenger-side small overlap test and the updated side test. That means you should pay close attention to the exact safety equipment on the truck you’re considering, especially if you want more than the standard driver-assistance package.

Should I buy a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.20% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.64/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It offers a broad mix of work-truck, luxury, and off-road capability with strong tech and diesel efficiency.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $44,177, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $47,175 average.
• It emphasizes luxury-leaning full-size-truck appeal with a strong mix of cabin space, a lively diesel engine, and versatile features.

The bottom line: the 2024 is the better pick if you want the newer-year mix of softened pricing, strong inventory, and broad capability. If your priority is saving money first, the 2023 is the smarter path, especially if you find one in good condition with the features you want.
