How much does the 2024 BMW i5 cost?

Prices have softened 5.97% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 207 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2024 BMW i5 a good car?

The 2024 BMW i5 is a strong choice if you want a luxury EV that balances driving enjoyment, comfort, and range, though its technology can be frustrating to use. It earns a 1/5 user rating and a 6.83/10 expert rating.

The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 8/10.

The overview points to a car that is fun to drive, offers impressive electric range, and stays comfortable inside, while the expert summary says it makes a big impression among electric luxury sedans and is less expensive than the competition. The main trade-off is the unintuitive infotainment system, which is called out as underwhelming and can make everyday use more distracting than it should be. For you, that means the i5 makes the most sense if you value the core luxury-EV experience more than a polished tech interface.

Good and great deals account for 34.8% of listings, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2024 BMW i5 reliable?

The 2024 BMW i5 is presented as a well-rounded new model with a comfortable cabin and strong driving manners, and the expert notes that it delivers an otherwise excellent driving experience. Its performance content also suggests a broad, usable range of capability, from the rear-wheel-drive eDrive40 to the dual-motor xDrive40 and M60 xDrive.

BMW’s EVs are described as having a reputation for easily exceeding their range estimates, which is a helpful sign for real-world usability. The cost-effectiveness notes also point to three years of free 30-minute charging on the Electrify America network, which can reduce early ownership friction if you rely on public charging.

For long-term ownership, your biggest used-buyer risk is making sure the battery and charging behavior still line up with the range you expect, since EV ownership depends heavily on how the car was charged and maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 BMW i5?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on an EV where software, charging behavior, and battery condition matter as much as cosmetic wear. Focus on how the car has been used and charged, and make sure the cabin tech, driver-assistance features, and charging equipment all work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The i5 is offered in two trim levels: eDrive40 and xDrive40. The eDrive40 is the rear-wheel-drive entry point, while the xDrive40 adds all-wheel drive and more power, so the cheaper trim is the one to target if you want the best value and can live without AWD.
• Powertrain: The eDrive40 uses a single electric motor with rear-wheel drive and makes 335 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, while the xDrive40 adds a second motor for all-wheel drive and 389 hp and 435 lb-ft. The dual-motor setup is quicker, but the rear-drive version already delivers strong everyday performance.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keep assist. The optional Driving Assistance Professional package adds adaptive cruise control, a hands-free highway assistant, active lane-change assist, and lane-keep steering intervention.
• Infotainment: The i5 uses a large dual-screen setup with sharp graphics and quick responses, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. Voice control helps with some functions, but many secondary settings still require menu diving, which is worth testing before you buy.
• Range & charging: The eDrive40 uses an 84.3-kWh battery pack and is estimated to travel 270 to 295 miles, while the xDrive40 is estimated at 248 to 266 miles. The i5 also offers three years of free 30-minute charging on the Electrify America network, which can be a meaningful ownership perk if you use public charging often.
• Battery health: On a used EV, you should check battery state-of-health, review charging habits, and confirm whether the car has mostly been charged at home or relied heavily on DC fast charging. You should also verify how much of the battery warranty remains so you know how much coverage you still have if capacity drops over time.

Which 2024 BMW i5 trim should I buy?

The 2024 BMW i5 is offered in 2 trim levels: eDrive40 and xDrive40.

Here's the short version:

• eDrive40: This is the best-value choice if you want the i5’s core strengths at the lowest entry price. It delivers rear-wheel-drive balance, strong power, and the longest estimated range in the lineup, so it makes the most sense for most shoppers.
• xDrive40: Choose this if you want more traction and quicker acceleration. It adds a second motor and AWD, which makes it the better pick for weather-prone regions or if you simply want the more capable all-around setup.

All i5 models come standard with frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keep assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 BMW i5?

• Deal availability: 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 207 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.97% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 95.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $48,656, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 BMW i5's resale value?

The current average of $51,898 sits slightly below last year's $55,190.

That price movement suggests the i5 has softened enough to help you as a buyer today, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about pricing if the market stays competitive. The current range still leaves room for value retention if you buy well, especially on a clean, well-equipped example. If you plan to resell later, the strongest protection will come from choosing the more desirable configuration and keeping the car in excellent condition.

The 2024 BMW i5 has not yet been crash tested by NHTSA or IIHS, so there are no official ratings to cite for this model year.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

All i5 models come standard with frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keep assist. The optional Driving Assistance Professional package adds adaptive cruise control, a hands-free highway assistant, active lane-change assist, and lane-keep steering intervention. A head-up display and surround-view camera system are available as part of the Premium package.

Should I buy a 2024 BMW i5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.97% compared with last year.
• The 2024 stands out as a new model with strong performance, plenty of range, and a very comfortable cabin, while still undercutting some rivals on price.

The bottom line: The 2024 BMW i5 is the right pick if you want a luxury EV that feels polished to drive and comfortable to live with, especially now that prices have eased. If you are more price-sensitive, focus on the best-equipped clean example you can find rather than stretching for a newer alternative.
