Used 2023 Volvo XC40 for Sale nearFort Worth, TX

How much does the 2023 Volvo XC40 cost?

Prices have softened 8.63% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,213 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable selection to compare.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC40 a good car?

The 2023 Volvo XC40 is a mixed but appealing choice if you want a small luxury crossover with style and comfort, though its value depends on how much you prioritize practicality and polish. It earns a 2/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Volvo gives the XC40 a distinctive Scandinavian design, a minimalist cabin, and updated styling for 2023, while the mild-hybrid powertrains and revised infotainment system modernize the package. The trade-offs are clear: cargo space is limited, and the model is not the most practical choice for everyone. The expert review also notes that the XC40 is Volvo’s entry-level model, so some materials and features feel more modest than the price might suggest.

With 37.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is enough market softness to make careful shopping worthwhile.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC40 reliable?

The 2023 Volvo XC40’s appeal starts with its safety-first engineering and a refined driving character that feels more polished than many similarly sized crossovers. The mild-hybrid setup adds a 48-volt electrical system and starter-generator assistance to smooth power delivery and improve fuel economy, while Volvo’s four-year/50,000-mile limited warranty provides standard coverage.

The powertrain is described as refined and calm, with composure over bumps and a chassis that feels more expensive than the XC40’s class would suggest. The cost-effectiveness notes also point out that the mild-hybrid system is a meaningful update, even if the added complexity may make some used buyers cautious over the long term.

For a used buyer, the main ownership risk is that the newly added mild-hybrid hardware and premium features can make repairs and upkeep more expensive if the vehicle has been neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volvo XC40?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a luxury crossover with newer mild-hybrid hardware and a touchscreen-heavy cabin. Focus on overall condition, feature operation, and signs of wear in the interior and electronics, since those are the kinds of issues that can matter most on a used premium SUV.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Core models cover the basics, but Plus adds front parking sensors and Ultimate adds side parking sensors, a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, and Pilot Assist. The base trim’s lack of standard adaptive cruise control is a notable gap.
• Powertrain: You get B4 front-wheel drive or B5 all-wheel drive mild-hybrid setups. The B4 uses a 2.0-liter turbo-four rated at 197 hp and 221 lb-ft, while the B5 is rated at 247 hp and 258 lb-ft and is the quicker option.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, traffic sign recognition, rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. Front parking sensors are added on Plus, while Ultimate adds side parking sensors, a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, and Pilot Assist.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 9-inch touchscreen with Android-based Google built-in features. Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth are included, but the system leans heavily on the touchscreen.
• Fuel efficiency: B4 FWD models are rated at 27 mpg combined, 24 mpg city, and 32 mpg highway. B5 AWD models are rated at 26 mpg combined, 23 mpg city, and 30 mpg highway.

Which 2023 Volvo XC40 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volvo XC40 is offered in 3 trim levels: Core, Plus, Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Core: This is the entry point, and it gives you the XC40’s standard safety equipment, Android-based infotainment, and mild-hybrid powertrain. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the extra convenience and driver-assistance features.
• Plus: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds front parking sensors and some useful comfort and convenience upgrades without pushing all the way to the top of the range.
• Ultimate: This is the most fully equipped version, adding side parking sensors, a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, and Pilot Assist. It suits you best if you want the most complete XC40 experience and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package is strongest on Plus and Ultimate, while the base Core leaves out adaptive cruise control.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volvo XC40?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 37.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,213 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.63% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 91.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,301, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volvo XC40's resale value?

The current average of $28,301 sits slightly below last year's $30,975.

That decline suggests the XC40 has moved into a softer pricing environment, which can help you as a buyer today. For a future seller, it means resale value may remain under pressure unless demand strengthens or the vehicle is especially well equipped and well kept.

Because the year-round range runs from $28,301 to $30,967, the market is already signaling a fairly narrow band of value. If you buy near the low end and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you should be better positioned when it’s time to sell.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC40 safe?

The 2023 Volvo XC40 earns five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests, and a four-star rollover rating from NHTSA. The IIHS gave it top “Good” ratings in most crash tests, though it dropped to an “Acceptable” rating in the updated side-impact test.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Volvo equips the XC40 with lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, traffic sign recognition, rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert as standard equipment. Front parking sensors are added on Plus, while Ultimate adds side parking sensors, a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, and Pilot Assist.

The main caveat is that adaptive cruise control is not standard on the base trim, and the updated IIHS side-impact result is a reminder to inspect crash-test context carefully when you’re comparing used luxury crossovers.

Should I buy a 2023 Volvo XC40 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 37.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.63% compared with last year.
• The 2023 update brings new mild-hybrid powertrains, revised styling, and the Android-based infotainment system.

The bottom line: The 2023 XC40 is the better pick if you want the updated powertrain and tech package, especially at today’s softer prices. If you’re shopping strictly for the lowest possible entry cost, a nearby year may still make sense, but the 2023’s updates give you a more modern version of the XC40 formula.
