How much does the 2023 Toyota Tacoma cost?

There are 7,400 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable range of choices.

Is the 2023 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

Generally — you’re looking at a 4.27/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners repeatedly praise its reliability, ruggedness, and off-road capability, and they also point to strong resale value and a sturdy build. The trade-offs are familiar: a tight interior, limited comfort, and fewer modern features than some rivals. For you, that means the Tacoma makes the most sense if you want a truck that feels tough and versatile rather than especially refined or tech-forward.

Good and great deals account for 35.9% of listings, so there’s still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

Owners rate it 4.27/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback emphasizes reliability, dependability, and a trouble-free ownership experience, with many shoppers describing it as a truck they can count on for the long haul. The expert evaluation also reinforces that reputation by calling out its bullet-proof reliability and long-standing appeal. Toyota’s maintenance messaging also highlights the Tacoma’s value proposition, which can help lower the stress of routine ownership.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the Tacoma’s reputation and more about how hard a specific truck has been used, so condition and service history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Tacoma?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any truck you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has off-road equipment, higher mileage, or signs of heavy use. Focus on overall condition, because the Tacoma’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been maintained and whether it has been used as a work truck or trail truck.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from SR to SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Trail Special Edition. Base SR trims are the most spartan, while Limited brings a more upscale cabin with leather upholstery and soft-touch materials. If you want the most rugged personality and hardware, TRD Pro adds underbody skid pads, a TRD-tuned suspension, a TRD sport exhaust, and a unique grille.
• Powertrain: Lower trims use a 2.7-liter four-cylinder with 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, while the 3.5-liter V6 makes 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. The V6 is the better choice if you want stronger performance and more capability, and you can pair it with either an automatic or a manual transmission.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, and automatic high beams. Higher trims can add blind-spot monitoring, rear- and side parking distance sensors, and a surround-view camera, but you won’t find lane-keeping assist or rear automatic emergency braking.
• Infotainment: Base SR trims use a 7-inch touchscreen, while higher trims get an 8-inch screen. All Tacomas include Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite radio, and the interface is simple and easy to use.
• Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder RWD setup is rated at 20 mpg city, 23 highway, and 21 combined. The V6 with 4WD is rated at 18 city, 22 highway, and 20 combined, while the manual V6 gets 17 city, 21 highway, and 18 combined.

Which 2023 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 6 trim levels: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Trail Special Edition.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the most basic Tacoma, so it makes sense if you want the lowest entry point and don’t mind a spartan cabin. It’s the trim to skip if you want the nicer materials, stronger presence, or more advanced equipment found higher up the range.
• SR5: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it sits early in the lineup without feeling stripped down. It also gets the new SX Package if you want blacked-out styling touches, making it a smart middle ground for everyday use.
• TRD Sport: Choose this if you want a more expressive look and a step up in equipment without going all the way to the off-road-focused trims. It suits you best if you want a Tacoma that feels more polished than the base trucks but not as specialized as the TRD Off-Road or TRD Pro.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the better pick if your priorities lean toward trail use and rough-surface capability. It’s the trim to target if you want the Tacoma’s rugged character to be more than just appearance.
• TRD Pro: This is the one to buy if you want the most capable and most distinctive Tacoma in the lineup. It adds the most serious off-road hardware and is the best fit if you want the truck’s toughest personality.
• Trail Special Edition: This trim makes sense if you want a more adventure-oriented Tacoma with a distinct look and a focus on outdoor appeal.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard, but higher trims add blind-spot monitoring, rear- and side parking distance sensors, and a surround-view camera.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Tacoma?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 7,400 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.11% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $35,357, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The current average of $36,054 sits slightly below last year's $36,830.

That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also suggests the truck has already absorbed some of its recent market pressure. For a future seller, that means resale value should remain supported by the Tacoma’s strong reputation, but you should not expect it to behave like a rapidly appreciating asset. Condition, trim, and mileage will matter a lot when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.27/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota Tacoma safe?

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma was not awarded a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it scored four out of five stars overall from NHTSA, with five-star side-impact results but lower marks in frontal crash and rollover testing.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard, and it includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, and automatic high beams. Higher trims can add blind-spot monitoring, rear- and side parking distance sensors, and a surround-view camera. The main caveat is that you won’t get lane-keeping assist or rear automatic emergency braking, which leaves the Tacoma behind some newer rivals in driver-assistance depth.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.11% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.27/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 Tacoma blends legendary reliability with strong off-road ability and a familiar, proven formula.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $32,984, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $36,054 average.
• It offers a smaller-truck feel with off-road ability and easy-to-use tech.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $38,174, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $36,054 average.
• It brings a ground-up redesign, a new platform, and a fresh turbocharged powertrain lineup.

The bottom line: If you want the proven Tacoma formula and a broad used-market selection, the 2023 is the safest all-around pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2022 gives you much of the same appeal for less money. If you’d rather pay more for the redesigned truck and its newer mechanical foundation, the 2024 is the better long-term alternative.
