Used 2023 Subaru Outback for Sale nearColorado Springs, CO

How much does the 2023 Subaru Outback cost?

Prices have softened 7.77% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 5,463 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2023 Subaru Outback a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Subaru Outback earns 4.33/5 from users and 7.83/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

It blends carlike manners with SUV-style utility, and it does so with standard all-wheel drive, strong safety systems and ratings, and excellent value. For you, that means a practical choice if you want versatility without moving to a larger, truckier vehicle.

The main trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and the potentially polarizing design. The voice recognition system is also frustrating, so you may find yourself relying on smartphone integration more often than the native interface.

The market looks healthy, with 37.4% of listings priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2023 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 Outback’s appeal is built around standard AWD, strong safety systems, roomy utility, and a reputation for excellent value. Those traits usually matter to used buyers because they point to a vehicle that’s easy to live with over time and well suited to daily use, road trips, and changing weather.

Its boxer engine layout helps lower the center of gravity for better handling, and the CVT is tuned to work smoothly at lower speeds. Subaru also programs the transmission to sound and feel like it has eight forward gears, which can make the drivetrain feel more familiar in everyday driving.

The cost-effectiveness notes also reinforce ownership appeal: the Outback offers great value, and the turbo is the better choice if your plans include mountain driving. That said, the standard engine’s limited passing power and middling fuel economy can make the base setup feel less satisfying over the long haul.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is ending up with a trim or powertrain that doesn’t match your driving needs, especially if you expect strong acceleration or frequent highway passing.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Subaru Outback?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one that’s been used for commuting, road trips, or rough-weather driving. Focus on overall condition, interior wear, and whether the features you want are actually present on the specific trim you’re looking at.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Base trim gets the simpler 7-inch touchscreen, while Premium and above move to the larger 11.6-inch system with wireless smartphone connectivity. The Onyx Edition also adds blacked-out exterior trim and water-resistant upholstery, which makes it a more distinctive and practical-feeling choice if you want a step up in appearance and everyday durability.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque, and it can feel short on passing and climbing power. The turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four in XT models delivers 260 hp and 277 lb-ft, and it’s the better fit if you want stronger acceleration or expect mountain driving.
• Safety package: EyeSight includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert requires an option package on Premium or an upgrade to Onyx Edition, and Limited and Touring add a Wide-Angle Mono Camera for better pedestrian and cyclist detection.
• Infotainment: The 11.6-inch portrait touchscreen is the main upgrade to look for, and it brings wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto starting with Premium trim. Subaru also offers Starlink connected services and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, while the native voice recognition system is a weak point.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard engine returned 25.6 mpg in testing, while Subaru says the test vehicle should have returned 28 mpg in combined driving. Most XT models are rated at 25 mpg combined, and the Wilderness is rated at 23 mpg combined.

Which 2023 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2023 Subaru Outback is offered in 6 trim levels: Base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Limited, Touring, and Wilderness.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the simplest way into the Outback, but it also comes with the smaller 7-inch touchscreen and wired smartphone connectivity. It makes sense only if you want the lowest entry point and are comfortable giving up the nicer infotainment setup and some convenience features.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it unlocks the larger 11.6-inch touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If you want the Outback’s core strengths without stretching too far up the range, this is the trim to target first.
• Onyx Edition: This trim adds blacked-out exterior trim and water-resistant upholstery, and it’s now available with the base powertrain as well as the turbocharged setup. It’s a strong pick if you want a more distinctive look and a more accessible path to the Onyx package.
• Limited: This trim adds more upscale equipment and gets the Wide-Angle Mono Camera, which Subaru says can improve pedestrian and cyclist detection. It’s a good fit if you want a more premium-feeling Outback with extra safety tech.
• Touring: This is the most upscale mainstream choice, with the richest cabin presentation and the most fully equipped feel. It suits you best if comfort and a near-luxury experience matter more than price.
• Wilderness: This is the most adventure-focused version, with the turbocharged powertrain and more capability for rougher terrain. Choose it if your priorities lean toward outdoor use and you want the Outback’s strongest off-road character.

For safety-minded shoppers, note that blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert requires an option package on Premium or an upgrade to Onyx Edition.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Subaru Outback?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 37.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,463 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.77% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 88.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,780, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $25,780 sits slightly below last year's $27,951.

That price movement suggests the Outback has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stays steady. A lower current entry price can also support demand from used shoppers who want value without giving up safety or utility.

Because the Outback has broad appeal as a practical all-weather crossover, it should remain attractive to buyers who want versatility and confidence in bad weather. Well-equipped trims and desirable features can help preserve interest when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Subaru Outback safe?

The 2023 Subaru Outback earns top marks across the board from IIHS, including in the new, more stringent side-impact crash test.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

In the Base model, EyeSight includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist. With those features present, EyeSight also adds Automatic Emergency Steering, which can help steer around an obstacle if there’s room in the lane and the driver doesn’t react in time.

Limited and Touring trims add a Wide-Angle Mono Camera that Subaru says can improve pedestrian and cyclist detection. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert requires an option package on Premium or an upgrade to Onyx Edition.

One caveat is that the rear automatic braking system can be incompatible with some driveways, and the test car arrived with that feature turned off.

Should I buy a 2023 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 37.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.77% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds fresh styling plus new infotainment and safety technologies.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $23,734, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $25,780 average.
• It emphasizes the new Wilderness trim and rugged outdoor capability.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $28,543, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $25,780 average.
• It broadens the trim lineup with feature-enriched versions and trim-specific styling tweaks.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of value, safety, and updated tech, the 2023 is the strongest all-around pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2022 can save you money, while the 2024 makes sense if you want the broader trim spread and don’t mind paying more.
