Is the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport a good car?

The 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport stands out as one of the longest-running choices in the subcompact crossover class, and that long life has helped make it a familiar, straightforward option. Its appeal is rooted in affordability and practicality rather than flash: it offers hatchback access, a higher ride height, and standard all-wheel drive, while Mitsubishi’s focus for the model has long been fuel efficiency and value. For shoppers who want an easy-to-live-with AWD compact SUV, that combination gives the Outlander Sport a clear identity.

By 2023, the Outlander Sport also benefited from the model’s gradual accumulation of useful updates. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto had spread to more models by 2018 and 2019, and the 2020 refresh brought a sharper front end, revised rear styling, a 7-inch touchscreen audio display, LED headlights, and automatic climate control. The 2023 model year also made all-wheel drive standard across the lineup, which further strengthened its value proposition. At the same time, the Outlander Sport still carries some familiar drawbacks: the buying guide describes it as dated, with weak engine performance, cheap interior materials, and a rough ride.

With 40.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.

For used buyers, the long-term ownership risk is less about complexity and more about whether you can live with its older-feeling driving experience and basic cabin execution over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should prioritize a history report first, then inspect the car closely for signs of prior damage, uneven wear, or poor repairs. Focus on overall condition, since a used example that has been maintained well and shows clean bodywork is likely to be the better buy. Because this model’s value proposition depends so much on practicality and price, it makes sense to be especially careful about cosmetic and mechanical condition before you commit.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport?

Yes — this looks like a buyer-friendly market for the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, with meaningful deal availability and a healthy supply of listings to compare.

• Deal availability: 40.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,120 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.20% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,343, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport's resale value?

The current average of $17,343 sits slightly below last year's $18,893.

That price movement suggests the model has become more accessible for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face some pressure if the market stays soft. If you buy well now, you may be starting from a more favorable entry point than someone who purchased when prices were higher. For resale, condition and mileage will matter even more when the broader market is already leaning downward.

Should I buy a 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 40.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.20% compared with last year.

The bottom line: The 2023 is a sensible primary choice if you want the standard AWD setup and a market that currently favors buyers. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2023 gives you a strong mix of availability, cleaner inventory, and softer pricing that can make it the easier buy.
