What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mazda CX-50?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are strong but not universal. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the ride quality, seat comfort, and infotainment usability, since those are the areas where the CX-50 can be less satisfying. Focus on overall condition and equipment level so you know whether the example you’re considering matches your needs.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base 2.5 S gives you the CX-50’s styling and standard advanced safety features, while higher trims add a larger display and more equipment. The most expensive trim level also brings the most advanced driver-assistance hardware, so base-trim shoppers should confirm which features matter most to them.
• Powertrain: The 2.5 S uses a 187-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder with a six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive, while the turbo version adds stronger acceleration and higher towing capacity. The turbo model is the one to target if you want more passing power or plan to tow.
• Safety package: Mazda’s standard driver-assistance package is generous, and the top trim adds Traffic Jam Assist, active blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors with reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system. Those upgrades are not standard on every version.
• Infotainment: Every CX-50 gets Mazda Connect with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and Mazda Connected Services. The base 2.5 S uses an 8.8-inch display, while other trims get a larger 10.25-inch screen.
• Fuel efficiency: Mazda predicts 27 mpg in combined driving for the base engine and 25 mpg in combined driving for the turbo model, though the turbo test vehicle averaged 23.4 mpg.

Which 2023 Mazda CX-50 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Mazda CX-50 is offered in 10 trim levels: 2.5 S, 2.5 S Select, 2.5 S Preferred, 2.5 S Premium, 2.5 S Premium Plus, 2.5 Turbo, 2.5 Turbo Meridian Edition, 2.5 Turbo Premium, 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus, and Meridian Edition.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5 S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the CX-50’s core style, standard all-wheel drive, wireless smartphone integration, and standard advanced safety features. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model.
• 2.5 S Select: This trim is for you if you want to move up from the base model without jumping into turbo pricing. It should be the first stop for shoppers looking for the best balance of equipment and value.
• 2.5 S Preferred: This is the value-oriented choice if you want a more comfortable and better-equipped CX-50 without paying for the turbo engine. It’s the trim most likely to make sense for everyday buyers.
• 2.5 S Premium: Choose this if you want more upscale features and a richer experience than the lower S trims provide. It suits you if you care about comfort and convenience more than outright performance.
• 2.5 S Premium Plus: This is the most fully equipped non-turbo option, so it’s the right pick if you want a near-top experience without stepping into the turbo lineup.
• 2.5 Turbo: Pick this if stronger acceleration matters to you. The turbo engine is the clear upgrade for drivers who want more passing power and a more engaging feel.
• 2.5 Turbo Meridian Edition: This trim is aimed at buyers who want a more adventurous look and added outdoor-oriented equipment. It stands apart with exclusive wheels, all-terrain tires, splash guards, and a roof-mounted load platform.
• 2.5 Turbo Premium: This is for you if you want turbo performance plus a more upscale feature set. It sits in the sweet spot for shoppers who want speed and comfort together.
• 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus: This is the best-equipped turbo trim and the one to choose if you want the most advanced safety and convenience features available. It’s the top recommendation if budget is less of a concern.
• Meridian Edition: This version emphasizes rugged styling and outdoor readiness, making it a fit if you want the CX-50’s adventure-focused character more than its luxury leanings.

The safety package is generous across the lineup, but the most advanced driver-assistance features are reserved for the top trim level.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mazda CX-50?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 38.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,079 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.22% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 89.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,610, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Mazda CX-50's resale value?

The current average of $25,610 sits slightly below last year's $27,308.

That decline suggests the CX-50 has become more affordable for used buyers, which can make it easier for future sellers to attract attention if pricing stays competitive. A softer market can also mean you may need to be more realistic when you eventually list the vehicle. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should still stand out, especially if they’re priced near the market average.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-50 safe?

The 2023 Mazda CX-50 earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda provides a generous standard package of driving assistance systems, and the most advanced features are reserved for the top trim level. Those exclusive upgrades include Traffic Jam Assist, active blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors with reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system. The expert review also notes that the adaptive cruise control can miss a vehicle cutting into the gap ahead, so you should pay attention to how the system behaves in real traffic.

Should I buy a 2023 Mazda CX-50 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 38.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.22% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 stands out for its stylish design, fun driving character, and standard advanced safety features.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $27,457, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $25,610 average.
• It leans more toward ruggedness and everyday usability.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2023 is the stronger buy because pricing has eased and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2024 is the alternative to consider, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2023.
