CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Kia Sorento
Summary
With 3,515 currently listed for sale and an average price of $26,872, 36.6% of 2023 Kia Sorento listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Kia Sorento 3.67 / 5 stars.
87.6% of 2023 Kia Sorento listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Kia Sorento stands out as a midsize SUV that blends family-friendly space with a wide range of powertrain choices and features. By this point in the Sorento’s fourth generation, Kia had already given it a more aggressive, sporty design, a three-row layout, and enough room to comfortably accommodate adults. The cabin also leans more upscale than the Sorento’s earlier generations, with wood-grained trim and quilted leather upholstery helping it feel more luxurious than its price might suggest.
For 2023, the Sorento’s base LX model gained a blind-spot monitor and rear automatic braking, along with a few minor feature shuffles between trim levels. That matters because the Sorento already offered a strong safety and convenience foundation, including collision warning, lane-keep assist, and rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist. Buyers also had access to a blind-spot view camera, though it was described as more distracting than helpful, especially at night. The Sorento’s appeal is further boosted by its broad lineup, which includes a hybrid option, a plug-in hybrid option, and X-Line versions with added off-road capability.
There are tradeoffs, though. The Sorento’s value proposition is strongest when you want a lot of equipment and versatility, but some of its more advanced features are reserved for higher trims. Even so, the 2023 Kia Sorento remains distinctive for offering a roomy three-row package, a polished interior, and an unusually wide spread of powertrain and trim choices in one SUV.

Let me start by saying the 2023 Kia Sorento is a nice vehicle. It drives well, looks great, and has solid features. That's not the issue. The issue is the front grill design. Kia left the radiator completely exposed behind the grill with no protective barrier. Over time, dust, debris, and rocks collect and pass right through, causing serious damage to the radiator. Based on my experience and the experiences of hundreds of other owners, you will likely need to replace your entire radiator within the first three years of ownership. I've filed formal complaints with the Federal Trade Commission, the Better Business Bureau, the Michigan Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Why? Because neither the dealership nor Kia America will cover this repair. It is not covered under warranty. You will be expected to pay out of pocket in my case, $1,350 for damage caused by their faulty design. The "solution" owners are left with? Going on Amazon and purchasing a metal mesh grill guard to install yourself, just to protect a part that should have been protected from the factory. A consumer should not have to modify a brand-new vehicle to prevent a critical component from being destroyed under normal driving conditions. If the grill had been designed properly in the first place, none of this would be necessary. Don't just take my word for it. Search Reddit, Google, the Kia Forums, and the NHTSA complaint database. You'll find hundreds of Sorento owners reporting the exact same problem rock damage to the radiator because of this open grill design. If you're a current owner dealing with this, I urge you to file complaints. Report it to NHTSA, the FTC, the BBB, and your state attorney general's consumer division. The more complaints on record, the harder it becomes for Kia to ignore this, and the closer we get to holding them accountable , whether that means reimbursement for owners or a full recall. Our voices matter, but only if we use them. To anyone considering this vehicle: I'd still say it's a good car just know what you're getting into with that front end, and budget for a radiator replacement Kia won't tell you about.

This is car is fully loaded. It drives very nice and the visibility from the interior is great. I’ve only had it less than a week but I am in love with the Sorento sonfar. Definitely the nicest car I’ve ever had.

Good SUV of this class. Comparable to Mitsubishi. This is a good price for that year.

How much does the 2023 Kia Sorento cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $26,988 |
| Year-Round Low | $26,988 |
| Year-Round High | $28,660 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $28,666 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −5.85% |
Prices have softened 5.85% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 3,528 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2023 Kia Sorento a good car?
The 2023 Kia Sorento is a balanced choice if you want a midsize SUV with family-friendly space, a three-row layout, and a wide spread of powertrain and trim choices. Its cabin leans more upscale than earlier Sorento generations, and the model’s broad feature set makes it appealing if you want versatility in one package. The user rating is 3.67/5.
That said, some of the more advanced features are reserved for higher trims, so the value equation depends on how much equipment you want. With 38.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful number of opportunities to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Kia Sorento reliable?
The 2023 Kia Sorento comes with a strong safety and convenience foundation, including collision warning, lane-keep assist, and rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist. For 2023, the base LX model also gained a blind-spot monitor and rear automatic braking, which adds to its everyday appeal.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well, especially if you plan to keep it for many years.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Kia Sorento?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should also prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can check the condition of the brakes, tires, electronics, and interior wear. Focus on whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re considering, since some of the Sorento’s more advanced equipment is reserved for higher trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Kia Sorento?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,528 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.85% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 88.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $26,988, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Kia Sorento's resale value?
The current average of $26,988 sits slightly below last year's $28,666.
That price movement suggests the Sorento has softened enough to help you buy more carefully today, but it also means future resale may depend heavily on trim, condition, and mileage. If you keep the vehicle in strong shape and avoid overpaying now, you should be in a better position when it’s time to sell. A well-equipped, clean example is likely to hold up better than one with heavy wear or limited features.
Should I buy a 2023 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.85% compared with last year.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $23,389, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $26,988 average.
- It adds efficiency-focused hybrid options and a more established feature set.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $29,149, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $26,988 average.
- It brings fresher styling and easier-to-use tech.
The bottom line: The 2023 is the best fit if you want a roomy, well-equipped Sorento at a softened price point and you value the broader feature mix of this model year. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value path; if you want newer styling and updated tech, the 2024 is the stronger upgrade choice.
