How much does the 2023 Jeep Compass cost?

Prices have softened 2.91% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

With 7,724 listings available, you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2023 Jeep Compass a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Jeep Compass earns a 4.4/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating, which points to a solid overall reception with some clear caveats. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

Owners repeatedly praise the stylish design, upgraded interior, and advanced technology, and they also like the larger touchscreen and more user-friendly cabin. The Compass also benefits from standard all-wheel drive and a meaningful mechanical upgrade that improves the driving experience.

The trade-offs are just as clear: the expert feedback calls out poor value for the money, poor visibility, and a cramped back seat. In practical terms, you should view it as a compact SUV that leans more toward upgraded hardware and features than maximum space or bargain pricing.

With 35.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Jeep Compass reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that feels dependable enough for everyday use, with praise centered on the upgraded interior, improved safety features, and technology that makes the Compass easier to live with over time. The new turbocharged setup is described as smoother and more refined than the old powertrain, which helps the vehicle feel more settled in regular driving.

Jeep also includes three years of complimentary scheduled maintenance through Jeep Wave, which helps reduce early ownership friction. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the Compass still carries value and packaging compromises, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Jeep Compass?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any Compass you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the cabin, visibility, and rear-seat space, since those are the areas where this model draws the most criticism. It’s also smart to confirm that the technology and driver-assistance features work as expected, especially on higher-trim examples.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes the base Sport, mid-level Latitude, upgraded Latitude Lux, upscale Limited, and Trailhawk, with Altitude, Red, and High Altitude also offered. Base trims miss automatic high-beam headlights, while higher trims add more equipment and the Trailhawk gets the most adventurous hardware.
• Powertrain: Every model uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 200 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive. The setup is smoother and more refined than before, though it still prioritizes efficiency over outright punch.
• Safety package: Standard driver assistance includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Available upgrades include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, traffic sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors, and Highway Assist on select trims.
• Infotainment: Every model gets a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 5, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, Bluetooth for two devices, SiriusXM, connected services, and over-the-air updates. A 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, embedded navigation, and a nine-speaker Alpine system are available depending on trim and configuration.
• Fuel efficiency: The official EPA fuel economy rating is 27 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2023 Jeep Compass trim should I buy?

The 2023 Jeep Compass is offered in 7 trim levels: Sport, Latitude, Latitude Lux, Limited, Trailhawk, Altitude, Red, and High Altitude.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the core Compass formula with standard all-wheel drive, the turbocharged engine, and the 10.1-inch touchscreen. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but you should expect fewer convenience and safety extras than the higher trims.
• Latitude: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more everyday appeal without jumping all the way to the pricier upper end. It’s the trim to target if you want a more balanced mix of equipment and price.
• Latitude Lux: This trim moves the Compass further into upscale territory with more premium content and serves as the basis for the Altitude special edition. It suits you if you want a richer-feeling cabin without going all the way to the top trims.
• Limited: This is the most polished mainstream trim, with the strongest mix of comfort, tech, and available Highway Assist. It’s the right pick if you want the most well-rounded Compass and don’t mind paying more for it.
• Trailhawk: This is the one to choose if you care most about off-road capability. It adds Jeep Active Drive Low, a low range, a 20:1 crawl ratio, Rock mode, hill descent control, skid plates, recovery hooks, and more aggressive tires.
• Altitude: Based on the Latitude Lux, this is mainly for shoppers who want a more distinctive appearance and a more upscale feel.
• Red: Based on the Limited, this special edition is for buyers who want a more exclusive look and a higher-end presentation.
• High Altitude: Also based on the Limited, this is the trim to consider if you want a more premium Compass with the strongest available safety-tech setup.

The Trailhawk, Limited, and High Altitude trims are the ones available with Highway Assist, so if that feature matters to you, shop those trims first.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Jeep Compass?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 7,724 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.91% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,637, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Jeep Compass's resale value?

The current average of $22,328 sits slightly below last year's $22,998.

That softer pricing suggests the Compass is currently in a buyer-friendly phase, which can help you if you’re shopping now but may limit upside if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the market has already adjusted downward, so condition, mileage, and trim choice will matter more when it comes time to resell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Jeep Compass safe?

The 2023 Jeep Compass earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS in prior testing, though the current model year has incomplete IIHS results.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a drowsy driver detection system, and a rear-seat reminder system. Automatic high-beam headlights are standard on all but the base Sport trim, and Highway Assist is available on the Trailhawk, Limited, and High Altitude trims.

One caveat is that the Compass’s current crash-test picture is incomplete, so you should check the latest test results before buying if crash performance is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2023 Jeep Compass or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.91% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 brings a new turbocharged engine, standard all-wheel drive, and more advanced safety and tech.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $20,595, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $22,328 average.
• It offers a more premium-feeling cabin with upgraded materials and technology.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $20,510, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $22,328 average.
• It keeps the powertrain upgrade and adds strong value at the base trim.

The bottom line: If you want the most improved Compass in this group, the 2023 is the one to target because it combines the new powertrain, standard AWD, and stronger tech. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 and 2024 can both make sense, but the 2023 is the better all-around pick when you want the upgraded driving hardware and feature set.
