How much does the 2023 Honda Civic Type R cost?

Prices have softened 1.20% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 148 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2023 Honda Civic Type R a good car?

With a 3.67/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating, the 2023 Honda Civic Type R lands as a highly appealing enthusiast car with a few clear compromises. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the car’s impressive performance, responsive handling, instant torque, and powerful turbo sounds, so you’re getting the kind of driving experience that feels special every time you get behind the wheel. The cabin also earns credit for being comfortable, which helps the Type R work as more than just a weekend toy.

The trade-offs are just as clear: all-wheel drive is not available, and the touchscreen response is sluggish. That means you’re choosing a car that prioritizes excitement over easygoing commuting and maximum all-weather traction, even though the overall package is still comfortable enough for regular use.

The Type R’s own description makes that positioning obvious: it is aimed at buyers who want something far more exciting than a sensible commuter, and that focus comes through in the driving experience. With 31.8% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Honda Civic Type R reliable?

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R is presented as a car you can count on for long-term fun, with owners repeatedly describing it as impressive, responsive, and enjoyable to live with. The expert review also emphasizes that it delivers composed road manners despite its front-wheel-drive layout, which supports the sense that the car’s hardware is well sorted.

Honda’s performance notes reinforce that dependability angle: the Type R uses a limited-slip differential to help it hold grip through corners, and its rev-matching six-speed manual is tuned to work quickly and smoothly. The cost-effectiveness notes also point to a helpful ownership perk, with Honda including the first scheduled maintenance visit.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about how hard the car may have been driven, since this is a performance hatchback that invites aggressive use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Honda Civic Type R?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially because this car is likely to have been driven enthusiastically. Focus on signs of hard use, uneven wear, and any evidence that the car has been modified or tracked.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Type R’s unique bodywork, rear wing, red interior accents, and heavily bolstered seats make it feel special, but the cabin still uses hard plastics in lower areas, so you should judge condition carefully rather than expecting luxury-car materials.
• Powertrain: The revised 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, and it is paired only with a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive. The limited-slip differential helps it put power down, but this is still a car built to be driven hard.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and road-departure mitigation. The system uses a single-camera setup with eight sonar sensors, and the Type R’s safety hardware is more advanced than the previous setup.
• Infotainment: You get a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and a wireless charging pad. The system is bright and crisp, but response can be sluggish.
• Fuel efficiency: The Type R returns 22 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.

Which 2023 Honda Civic Type R trim should I buy?

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R is offered in 1 trim level: Type R.

Here's the short version:

The Type R is the one to buy because there isn’t a trim ladder to sort through. You’re getting the full performance setup, the 9-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, the Bose audio system, the digital instrument panel, and Honda Sensing in one package. If you want the best-value path, this is it by default, since there isn’t a cheaper version to trade down to.

The safety package includes traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and road-departure mitigation.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Honda Civic Type R?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting deep discounts everywhere.

• Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 148 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.20% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 95.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $42,532, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Honda Civic Type R's resale value?

The current average of $44,117 sits slightly below last year's $44,655.

That tells you the market has eased a bit, which can help you as a buyer today. For a future seller, it suggests the Type R is holding value reasonably well, but not appreciating, so resale should depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how cleanly the car has been maintained.

Because the current average is still close to the year-round high, well-kept examples should remain relatively desirable. If you buy carefully and keep the car stock and clean, you should be in a better position when it’s time to sell.

Is the 2023 Honda Civic Type R safe?

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R has not been crash-tested by either the IIHS or NHTSA, so there isn’t a direct model-year crash-test result to cite here.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the standard driver-assistance suite, and it includes traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and road-departure mitigation. The system also uses a single-camera setup with eight sonar sensors, split between the front and rear.

The main caveat is that this is still a performance car that encourages aggressive driving, so safety depends heavily on how you use it. Even so, the available equipment and expert safety score point to a strong safety package for the class.

Should I buy a 2023 Honda Civic Type R or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.20% compared with last year.
• The 2023 stands out as a bombastic, fast, and instantly memorable Civic with more power and performance than before.

The bottom line: If you want the most distinctive, enthusiast-focused Civic Type R experience and you’re shopping in a market with decent deal availability, the 2023 is the right target. If you’re more price-sensitive, you should still compare nearby model years and focus on the cleanest, best-priced example rather than chasing the newest badge alone.
