Why it stands out
The 2023 Ford Mustang stands out because it sits at the end of the sixth generation, a long-running redesign that began for the 2015 model year and brought a sleeker, smoother look, coupe and soft-top convertible body styles, and a new electric system for the convertible top. It also marked the first time Ford produced and marketed the Mustang for a global audience, and it was the first Mustang to feature Ford’s EcoBoost engine lineup. A new independent rear suspension system was another key part of that ground-up redesign, helping define this generation’s more modern driving character.
For 2023, the Mustang’s appeal comes from its broad range of powertrains and transmissions. Ford’s EcoBoost turbocharged 2.3-liter inline four-cylinder engine powers base Mustangs in this generation, while other available engines include a 3.7-liter V6, the 5.0-liter Coyote V8, and two versions of the 5.2-liter V8, exclusive to the Shelby GT350 and the GT500. Transmission choices, depending on engine, include two six-speed manuals, six- and 10-speed automatics, and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. That variety helps the Mustang cover a wide spread of buyers, from those who want an accessible sports car to those looking for more serious performance.
There are tradeoffs, though. Models with the EcoBoost engine are known for problems with oil consumption and potential head gasket failure, and the transmission may be prone to slippage. For shoppers considering a used 2023 Mustang, that means condition and maintenance history matter a lot. Even so, the car’s combination of iconic styling, rear-wheel-drive layout, and wide performance range keeps it appealing, and owner feedback reinforces that mix of performance, looks, and value.

It doesn’t have a lot of luxury features but the active exhaust is great and for its age and mileage it was a good price.

Great car. Great color. Lots of extra features. Good value for what it has. Wish it had a spoiler. But no biggie. I love it. 1st v8. Hyped!

Reviewed a 2023 Ford Mustang on Jun 10, 2023
From a purely aesthetic standpoint the new Mustangs look like the classic muscle cars of the 60’s and 70’s. It has that wide body and low to the ground appearance you expect from a Ford Mustang. This particular model with its “White Ice Appearance Package” is truly classy. But this vehicle is nothing like the Mustangs of the 60’s and 70’s. It has all the “Bells and Whistles” of the modern technology era! From its state of the art 12 LCD Digital IP CLUSTER, to its SAFETY/SECURITY conscious package this vehicle is truly a marvel and an utter joy to drive. As far as being a good value, I think Ford has done a fairly good job of giving the car buyer the most and best bang for his buck. They’ve incorporated the things people are looking for in a vehicle and done so at a reasonable cost to the consumer. From my point of view the EcoBoost Premium Fastback RWD with the 201A Optional Equipment Package leaves nothing out. It was a great deal for the price and it has everything that I need or even desired in a car.

How much does the 2023 Ford Mustang cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $33,001 |
| Year-Round Low | $28,724.70 |
| Year-Round High | $33,777.04 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $30,532 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +8.08% |
Prices are up 8.08% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 3,162 listings available, which gives you a meaningful pool to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $28,724.70, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2023 Ford Mustang a good car?
Yes — owners rate it 5/5, which points to very strong overall satisfaction.
Owners consistently praise the blend of performance, aesthetics, and value, and many also call out the driving experience, the sound system, and the convertible feature. That lines up well with the Mustang’s role as a sporty coupe or convertible for buyers who want style and engagement without giving up everyday usability.
With 28.5% of listings priced as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively and compare examples carefully.
Is the 2023 Ford Mustang reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback emphasizes a car that feels dependable in the ways that matter to enthusiasts: strong performance, a satisfying driving experience, and a package that keeps people happy over time. That said, used buyers should pay close attention to maintenance records and overall condition, especially because long-term ownership risk rises when a performance car has been driven hard or serviced inconsistently.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford Mustang?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should prioritize a history report first, then focus on a pre-purchase inspection that checks for signs of hard use, deferred maintenance, or prior repairs. Condition matters especially on a performance car, so pay close attention to service records, drivetrain behavior, and any evidence that the car was modified or tracked.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford Mustang?
This is a seller’s market, so you should act selectively and be ready to move when a strong listing appears.
- Deal availability: 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,162 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 8.08% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 88.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $28,724.70, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Ford Mustang's resale value?
The current average of $33,001 sits slightly above last year's $30,532.
That upward move suggests the market still values this model year, which can help support resale strength if you buy well and keep the car in good condition. A Mustang with clean history, strong maintenance, and desirable equipment should be easier to move later than one with questionable records or visible wear.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2023 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 8.08% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $37,878, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $33,001 average.
- It adds a more modern interior and upgraded technology.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger value play, the 2023 is the better starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid deal availability and strong owner satisfaction. If you’re willing to pay more for newer tech and a fresher cabin, the 2024 is the better alternative; if price matters most, stick with the 2023 and shop carefully for a clean, well-maintained example.
