CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Ford Maverick
overall

Summary
With 2,485 currently listed for sale and an average price of $26,933.00, 33.2% of 2023 Ford Mavericks for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Ford Maverick 4.39 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
87.8% of 2023 Maverick models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Ford Maverick stands out as a compact pickup that has managed to stay fresh into its second model year. Its hybrid-driven fuel efficiency is a major part of its appeal, and the truck’s buzz has kept it feeling noteworthy even as fully electric trucks have drawn attention elsewhere. It also brings a stylish design to the segment, giving it a more distinctive look than a basic work-focused pickup.
For 2023, the Maverick adds the Tremor package to its lineup, giving buyers an off-road-oriented option that broadens the truck’s personality. That makes it more versatile for shoppers who want a small truck that can handle rougher terrain without giving up its everyday usefulness. At the same time, it is not without compromises: the cabin can be noisy, the interior materials are described as feeling cheap, and the infotainment system is older.

absolutely the best vehicle I have owned. The mileage is much better than the advertised numbers. I have the hybrid version and so far after driving for just over a week ( 1200 KM ) I have an average of about 4.9 L / 100KM combined. The truck rides amazingly smooth and is so versatile with the flex bed system. I love my truck!

Great value for the money. Get the towing package, if you can, for even more value. Very efficient fuel use, in either gas or hybrid versions. Comfortable and spacious interior, in spite of the compact overall size.

How much does the 2023 Ford Maverick cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $26,839 |
| Year-Round Low | $26,172.01 |
| Year-Round High | $28,146.89 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $28,146 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −4.64% |
Prices have softened 4.64% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,535 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $26,172.01, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2023 Ford Maverick a good car?
Generally — the 2023 Ford Maverick earns a 4.39/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its impressive gas mileage, comfort, and value, and many also like the hybrid option and practical design for family use and hauling. The truck’s stylish design helps it stand out in the compact-pickup segment, and its off-road-oriented Tremor package broadens its appeal if you want more capability. On the other hand, the cabin can be noisy, the interior materials feel cheap, and the infotainment system is older.
For you, that means the Maverick makes the most sense if you want a small truck that feels useful every day and still brings strong efficiency. It also looks like a smart fit if you want something more distinctive than a basic work truck. Good and great deals account for 33.5% of listings, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2023 Ford Maverick reliable?
Owners rate it 4.39/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable in daily use, with praise centered on its comfort, value, and fuel economy. That kind of feedback matters because it suggests you can count on the Maverick to deliver the practical ownership experience shoppers expect from a compact truck. The expert notes also reinforce its bargain-minded character, and the cost-effectiveness discussion highlights how much value it packs into its price.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the concept and more about condition, since a hard-used compact truck can hide wear from hauling, commuting, or off-road use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford Maverick?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 88% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any truck you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the truck has been used for towing, rough roads, or off-road driving. Focus on cabin condition, infotainment behavior, and signs of hard use, since those are the areas most likely to affect your day-to-day satisfaction.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base XL comes with 17-inch Sparkle Silver-painted steel wheels, while XLT gets 17-inch Carbonized Gray aluminum wheels and Lariat gets 18-inch Bright aluminum wheels. The Tremor package adds blacked-out exterior details, orange accents, unique tow hooks, and a more rugged look, while the FX4 package changes the wheel finish on XLT or Lariat.
- Powertrain: The standard hybrid pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with an electric motor for 191 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque, while the 2.0-liter EcoBoost brings 250 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic. AWD is available with the EcoBoost, and the Tremor package is the only way to get Ford’s Advanced 4WD system.
- Safety package: Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 suite is standard, with automatic high beams, pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, and a rear view camera. Available features include adaptive cruise control, lane centering, evasive steering assist, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and hill-descent control.
- Infotainment: The standard setup uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, wired Apple CarPlay, and wired Android Auto. Lariat adds a 6.5-inch driver-information display, and its Luxury Package brings Sync 3, an eight-speaker B&O system, and a wireless charging pad.
- Fuel efficiency: The gas engine returns 25 mpg city, 30 highway, and 25 combined, while the hybrid gets 40 city, 33 highway, and 37 combined.
Which 2023 Ford Maverick trim should I buy?
The 2023 Ford Maverick is offered in 3 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat.
Here's the short version:
- XL: This is the entry point, and it keeps the Maverick’s value-first mission intact with the standard hybrid setup and basic equipment. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and can live with the simpler wheel and cabin presentation.
- XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more polished wheel setup and serves as the starting point for the Tremor and FX4 packages. If you want the sweet spot between price and flexibility, this is the one to focus on.
- Lariat: This is the most upscale regular trim, with 18-inch wheels, a larger driver display, push-button start, ambient lighting, and more available comfort and tech upgrades. It suits you best if you want the Maverick to feel less like an entry-level truck and more like a well-equipped daily driver.
Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 suite is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get the core safety basics.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford Maverick?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,535 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.64% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 88.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $26,172.01, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Ford Maverick's resale value?
The current average of $26,839 sits slightly below last year's $28,146.
That price movement suggests the Maverick has softened enough to help you buy more confidently today, but not so much that it looks weak in the market. If you plan to sell later, the current trend may help keep your entry cost reasonable, which can improve your odds of holding value well over time. The model’s strong owner satisfaction also supports demand on the used market.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.39/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Ford Maverick safe?
The 2023 Ford Maverick earned a four-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) losing points for rollover resistance and for the passenger’s side in the frontal crash test. The NHTSA also noted that their gas-powered tester emitted smoke and flames following the crash. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the 2023 Maverick a Superior rating for vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention and Advanced for vehicle-to-pedestrian in daytime, but it earned only a Basic rating for vehicle-to-pedestrian at night.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 suite is standard, so every trim gets automatic high beams, pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, and a rear view camera. Available upgrades include adaptive cruise control, lane centering, evasive steering assist, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and hill-descent control.
The night pedestrian-prevention result is the main caveat to keep in mind if safety is a top priority for you.
Should I buy a 2023 Ford Maverick or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 88% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.64% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.39/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The Tremor package adds an off-road-oriented option that broadens the truck’s personality.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $23,641, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $26,839 average.
- It emphasizes fuel economy and approachable pickup packaging.
The bottom line: If you want the better-rounded shopping pool and the added Tremor option, the 2023 is the stronger pick. If your priority is spending less up front and you’re comfortable with the earlier model year’s simpler setup, the 2022 is the value-first alternative worth cross-shopping.
