CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Ford Maverick
overall

Summary
With 2,479 currently listed for sale and an average price of $27,158.00, 33.7% of 2023 Ford Mavericks for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Ford Maverick 4.39 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
88.1% of 2023 Maverick models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Ford Maverick stands out as a compact pickup that has managed to stay fresh into its second model year. Its hybrid-driven fuel efficiency is a major part of its appeal, and the truck’s buzz has kept it feeling noteworthy even as fully electric trucks have drawn attention elsewhere. It also brings a stylish design to the segment, giving it a more distinctive look than a basic work-focused pickup.
For 2023, the Maverick adds the Tremor package to its lineup, giving buyers an off-road-oriented option that broadens the truck’s personality. That makes it more versatile for shoppers who want a small truck that can handle rougher terrain without giving up its everyday usefulness. At the same time, it is not without compromises: the cabin can be noisy, the interior materials are described as feeling cheap, and the infotainment system is older.

absolutely the best vehicle I have owned. The mileage is much better than the advertised numbers. I have the hybrid version and so far after driving for just over a week ( 1200 KM ) I have an average of about 4.9 L / 100KM combined. The truck rides amazingly smooth and is so versatile with the flex bed system. I love my truck!

Great value for the money. Get the towing package, if you can, for even more value. Very efficient fuel use, in either gas or hybrid versions. Comfortable and spacious interior, in spite of the compact overall size.

How much does the 2023 Ford Maverick cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $27,086 |
| Year-Round Low | $26,174.12 |
| Year-Round High | $28,136.46 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $28,094 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.59% |
Prices have softened 3.59% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,540 listings available, which suggests you should have some room to compare prices and condition.
If you find a listing below $26,174.12, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2023 Ford Maverick a good car?
Generally — the 2023 Ford Maverick earns 4.39/5 from owners and 7.33/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its impressive gas mileage, comfort, and value for a compact truck. They also like the hybrid option and the practical design for family use and hauling. The trade-offs are familiar: dealer pricing above MSRP can be frustrating, and the tight back seat can limit rear-passenger comfort.
That fits the Maverick’s role as a compact pickup that emphasizes everyday usefulness, fuel efficiency, and a distinctive style rather than full-size-truck capability. With 29.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some room for value-minded shoppers.
Is the 2023 Ford Maverick reliable?
Owners rate it 4.39/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable in daily use, with strong praise for its comfort, value, and hybrid efficiency. Reviewers also highlight its practical design for family duties and hauling, which supports the idea that it can be a trouble-free choice for the right buyer.
On the expert side, the Maverick’s hybrid setup and straightforward truck packaging reinforce its reputation for efficient, easy ownership. The cost-effectiveness notes also emphasize that it remains a bargain relative to other small trucks, which can help reduce ownership stress over time.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the concept and more about condition: a noisy cabin, cheap-feeling materials, and hard use can matter more as mileage climbs.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford Maverick?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are not the same as problem-free trucks. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on cabin wear, infotainment behavior, and any signs of hard use, especially if the truck was used for hauling or off-road driving. It also helps to compare trim equipment closely, since the Maverick’s value changes a lot depending on how much convenience and capability you want.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base XL is the most stripped-down version, with steel wheels and a more basic feel, while XLT and Lariat add more polished wheel designs and more equipment. The Tremor package adds off-road styling and hardware, but it also changes the truck’s character and capability.
- Powertrain: The Maverick is hybrid-powered by default with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and electric motor, while the 2.0-liter EcoBoost brings more power and the option of AWD. If you want the off-road-focused setup, the Tremor package is the route to the advanced 4WD system.
- Safety package: Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 suite is standard, so every trim gets automatic high beams, pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, and a rear view camera. Additional features such as adaptive cruise control, lane centering, blind-spot monitoring, and hill-descent control are available, but not all are standard.
- Infotainment: The standard setup uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, wired Apple CarPlay, and wired Android Auto. Lariat adds a 6.5-inch driver-information display, and its Luxury Package can bring a wireless charging pad and Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system.
- Fuel efficiency: The hybrid gets 40 city, 33 highway, and 37 combined, while the gas engine returns 25 city, 30 highway, and 25 combined.
Which 2023 Ford Maverick trim should I buy?
The 2023 Ford Maverick is offered in 3 trim levels: XL, XLT, and Lariat.
Here's the short version:
- XL: This is the value-first choice if you want the Maverick’s core strengths at the lowest entry point. It keeps the truck affordable and still gives you the standard hybrid powertrain and Co-Pilot 360 safety suite, but it is the most basic in appearance and equipment.
- XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more polished look and serves as the main gateway to the Tremor and FX4 packages. If you want more flexibility without jumping to the top trim, this is the one to focus on.
- Lariat: This is the pick if you want the most comfort and convenience, including the larger driver display, push-button start, ambient lighting, and available Luxury Package upgrades. It makes the Maverick feel more upscale, but you pay for the extra equipment.
Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 suite is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get the core driver-assistance features.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford Maverick?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,540 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.59% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 87.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $26,174.12, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Ford Maverick's resale value?
The current average of $27,086 sits slightly below last year's $28,094.
That kind of softening suggests the Maverick is still in demand, but buyers have a bit more leverage than they did a year ago. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation later because you are starting from a lower price point than last year’s average.
The Maverick’s strong owner satisfaction also helps support future demand, especially among shoppers who want a fuel-efficient compact truck with broad everyday appeal.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.39/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Ford Maverick safe?
The 2023 Ford Maverick earned a four-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) losing points for rollover resistance and for the passenger’s side in the frontal crash test. The NHTSA also noted that their gas-powered tester emitted smoke and flames following the crash. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the 2023 Maverick a Superior rating for vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention and Advanced for vehicle-to-pedestrian in daytime, but it earned only a Basic rating for vehicle-to-pedestrian at night.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 suite is standard, so every Maverick gets automatic high beams, pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, and a rear view camera. Available upgrades include adaptive cruise control, lane centering, evasive steering assist, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and hill-descent control.
The main caveat is that the crash-test results were not spotless, and the nighttime pedestrian-prevention result is weaker than the daytime result. That makes it worth paying close attention to the safety equipment on the exact truck you are considering.
Should I buy a 2023 Ford Maverick or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.59% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.39/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The Tremor package adds off-road capability and broadens the Maverick’s appeal.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $23,818, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $27,086 average.
- It keeps the Maverick’s approachable, value-focused character with a simple three-trim lineup and standard hybrid powertrain.
The bottom line: If you want the more current Maverick with the Tremor package available, the 2023 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front and you do not need the newer-year updates, the 2022 is the smarter budget alternative.
