## What’s New for the 2023 BMW X5 The X5 carries over into 2023 with minimal changes, in anticipation of a 2024 redesign. One of the few changes is the addition of wireless device charging to the optional Premium package. BMW also offers a plug-in hybrid that uses this engine in the xDrive45e. Thanks to an additional electric motor, it makes 389 horsepower and can travel up to 30 miles on electric power. The X5 M50i features a twin-turbocharged V8 that generates 523 horsepower. The most efficient version of the X5 is the xDrive45e plug-in, which returns an EPA-estimated 50 mpg-equivalent. When the electric power is exhausted, the xDrive45e returns a 20 combined mpg. The sDrive40i returns 21 mpg city, 26 highway, 23 combined. The xDrive40i earns one less mpg on the highway, but is otherwise the same. The V8-powered M50i returns 16 mpg city, 22 highway, 18 combined.
