The trade-offs are clear: the ride is stiff in normal driving, and getting in and out takes a bit of effort. Styling is also polarizing, so this is a car that asks you to value driving character over broad appeal.

The twin-turbo inline-six, rear-wheel-drive layout, and standard limited-slip differential point to a robust enthusiast setup, while the cabin is described as easy to live with day to day.

BMW also includes useful ownership-friendly touches such as standard heated front seats and a power sunroof, along with easy-to-use technology that should reduce daily friction. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the car’s stiff setup and performance-first hardware may make neglected examples more costly to live with if prior maintenance was inconsistent.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW M2?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 96.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a performance coupe where prior use can vary widely. Focus on overall condition, signs of hard driving, and whether the car’s equipment and wear match the mileage and asking price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The styling is polarizing, but the cabin is surprisingly comfortable and spacious, and the standard equipment includes dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, heated front seats, Vernasca leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, and a power sunroof.
• Powertrain: The twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine makes 453 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, with either a six-speed manual transmission with rev-matching or an eight-speed automatic.
• Safety package: Standard driver assistance includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The available Lighting Package adds automatic high beams and adaptive LED headlights, and active cruise control is available only with the automatic transmission.
• Infotainment: BMW’s iDrive 8 system uses a 10.25-inch touchscreen paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, and it includes wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The manual gets 16 mpg city, 24 highway, and 19 combined; the automatic gets 16 mpg city, 23 highway, and 19 combined.

Which 2023 BMW M2 trim should I buy?

The 2023 BMW M2 is offered in 1 trim level: M2.

Here's the short version:

The M2 is the trim to buy if you want the full experience without having to sort through a long trim ladder. It already brings the core performance hardware, easy-to-use technology, and a strong standard safety suite, so you are not forced into a higher trim to get the car’s defining traits.

The best-value path is the standard M2 because the car’s appeal is concentrated in its base formula rather than in a complicated set of upgrades. If you want more comfort or convenience, look closely at the available packages rather than expecting a separate trim to solve those needs.

The standard safety package includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW M2?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 38.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 160 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 96.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $62,154, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 BMW M2's resale value?

The current average of $63,373 sits slightly below last year's $63,531.

That small decline suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is helpful if you plan to resell later. A steady price pattern can make it easier to estimate future value because the car is not swinging sharply in either direction.

For a future seller, that means your biggest advantage will likely come from condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained. Well-kept examples should remain easier to position than neglected ones, especially in a performance-car market where buyers pay close attention to history and presentation.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 BMW M2 safe?

The 2023 BMW M2 earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver assistance features include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The available Lighting Package adds automatic high beams and adaptive LED headlights, and active cruise control that can stop and go with traffic is available only with the automatic transmission.

The car also benefits from strong outward visibility thanks to its tallish greenhouse and normal-sized pillars. That said, the safety setup is still package-dependent for some convenience features, so you should confirm exactly which equipment is on the used example you are considering.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW M2 or consider a different year?

If you are more price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully within this year’s range and look for a well-kept example near the low end of the market.

How does the 2023 BMW M2 compare to the 2023 Toyota GR86?

Expert Pros & Cons (per CarGurus review team)

2023 BMW M2:

• Pros: Blistering acceleration and scalpel-like handling, Functional cockpit and an actually-usable trunk, Easy-to-use technology.
• Cons: Stiff ride in normal driving, Bit of effort to enter/exit the vehicle, Styling is not for everyone.

2023 Toyota GR86:

• Pros: Blissful handling dynamics, Sharp acceleration, Straightforward controls.
• Cons: Dated infotainment system, Small rear seat, Lots of cabin noise.

Our experts score the 2023 BMW M2 8.3/10 and the 2023 Toyota GR86 7.7/10. The BMW is the more powerful and more expensive car, with a 3.0L 453 hp inline-six and a more upscale, usable cabin. The Toyota is far more affordable and still delivers sharp handling, but it gives up power, refinement, and interior space.

If you want the more serious performance coupe with stronger tech and everyday usability, the M2 is the better fit. If your priority is lower cost and a simpler sports-car experience, the GR86 makes the stronger value case.
