CarGurus Analysis: 2023 BMW M2
overall

Summary
With 150 currently listed for sale and an average price of $65,249.00, 30.7% of 2023 BMW M2s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 BMW M2 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
93.3% of 2023 M2 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 BMW M2 stands out as a more focused performance machine, and it still aims to be a thrilling daily driver. For enthusiasts, that combination is part of its appeal: it delivers the kind of rear-wheel-drive, straight-six internal-combustion connection that is becoming harder to find, while remaining functional enough for everyday use. BMW also gave it a complete redesign, along with bolder styling, so it no longer plays the semi-sleeper role it once did.
On the road, the 2023 BMW M2 is defined by blistering acceleration and scalpel-like handling. It also earns points for a functional cockpit, an actually-usable trunk, and easy-to-use technology, which helps explain why it can work as more than just a weekend toy. The tradeoffs are real, though: the ride is stiff in normal driving, it takes a bit of effort to enter and exit, and the styling will not be to everyone’s taste.

Fast and just plain fun to drive. More tech than the older model M2 with lines similar to other late model BMWs. The 6 speed manual on this model adds more control and driving thrills for those with more traditional sensibilities.

IMO this is the closest thing BMW has achieved in terms of driving experience and fun since the 1M and E30 M3. Exceptional car, instant classic.

Is the 2023 BMW M2 a good car?
Yes — you rate it 5/5, and CarGurus experts give it an 8.33/10. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Technology.
The 2023 BMW M2 is built around a rear-wheel-drive, straight-six performance formula that is getting harder to find, and it still aims to work as a daily driver. The redesign gives it bolder styling and a more focused personality, while the cabin remains functional enough for everyday use.
The trade-offs are clear: the ride is stiff in normal driving, and it takes some effort to enter and exit. Even so, the combination of blistering acceleration, sharp handling, an actually usable trunk, and easy-to-use technology makes it a compelling choice if you want a serious sports coupe that can still handle routine driving.
There are 27.9% good or great deals in the market, which suggests you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 BMW M2 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2023 BMW M2 is presented as a focused performance car that still keeps everyday usability in view, with a functional cockpit and straightforward technology. Its performance setup is also straightforward: a twin-turbo inline-six, rear-wheel drive, and either a manual or automatic transmission, with an active limited-slip differential standard.
BMW also includes practical ownership touches such as standard heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a power sunroof, which help the car feel less like a stripped-down special and more like a usable premium coupe.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that this is still a high-performance machine with a stiff ride and a more demanding daily-driving personality than a typical coupe.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW M2?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a performance coupe where suspension, brakes, tires, and interior wear can matter more than on a mainstream car. Focus on how the car was driven and whether the condition matches the mileage and asking price.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The standard M2 already includes dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, heated front seats, Vernasca leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, and a power sunroof, while the optional Carbon Package adds carbon-fiber interior trim, carbon-fiber paddle shifters, an M Carbon roof, and M Carbon bucket seats.
- Powertrain: The car uses a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with 453 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, and you can get either a six-speed manual with rev-matching or an eight-speed automatic at no extra cost.
- Safety package: Standard driver assistance includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The Lighting Package adds automatic high beams and adaptive LED headlights, while active cruise control is available only with the automatic transmission.
- Infotainment: BMW’s iDrive 8 setup uses a 10.25-inch touchscreen paired with a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument panel, and it includes wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and over-the-air-friendly modern controls through the curved display interface.
- Fuel efficiency: The manual returns 16 mpg city, 24 highway, 19 combined, while the automatic returns 16 mpg city, 23 highway, 19 combined.
Which 2023 BMW M2 trim should I buy?
The 2023 BMW M2 is offered in 1 trim level: M2.
Here's the short version:
The M2: is the one to buy because it already delivers the core experience: the 453-horsepower twin-turbo inline-six, rear-wheel drive, standard limited-slip differential, strong braking hardware, and the easy-to-use iDrive 8 tech setup. It also comes with the everyday comforts that make it more livable than a bare-bones performance car, including heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and a power sunroof. If you want the best-value path, this is it, since the main decision is really whether to add packages rather than move up to a different trim.
The standard safety package is already well equipped, and the available Lighting Package and active cruise control are the main notable add-ons to consider.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW M2?
This looks like a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop carefully without expecting a fire sale.
- Deal availability: 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 147 listings available.
- Clean inventory: 91.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $62,867.88, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2023 BMW M2 safe?
The 2023 BMW M2 earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard driver assistance includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The available Lighting Package adds automatic high beams and adaptive LED headlights, and active cruise control that can stop and go with traffic is available only with the automatic transmission.
BMW also points to the car’s tallish greenhouse and normal-sized pillars as a visibility advantage, which helps with everyday awareness behind the wheel.
Should I buy a 2023 BMW M2 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- BMW says the 2023 M2 has been completely redesigned, giving it a more focused performance character and bolder styling.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned M2 experience, the 2023 is the year to target because it delivers the core formula in a fresh package and still works as a daily driver. If you’re more price-sensitive, you can shop the market carefully and focus on the cleanest, best-priced example rather than stretching for the newest listing.
