CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Acura MDX
overall

Summary
With 2,949 currently listed for sale and an average price of $38,816, 36.2% of 2023 Acura MDXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Acura MDX 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.17 / 10.
86.3% of 2023 MDX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Acura MDX stands out as Acura’s midsize three-row crossover SUV, and its styling is one of its clear strengths. Acura also adds a complimentary three-year subscription to AcuraLink connected services and scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles, which gives this model year a more appealing ownership package. Its Super Handling All-Wheel Drive is another notable advantage, and the MDX also earns praise for its great safety ratings.
At the same time, the 2023 MDX is not without drawbacks. Its poor fuel economy may matter to shoppers who prioritize efficiency, and its poor ergonomic design can make everyday use less satisfying than it should be. The cramped third-row seat also limits its appeal as a true family hauler. Even so, the 2023 Acura MDX remains a distinctive choice for buyers who want a stylish three-row SUV with strong safety credentials and available all-wheel-drive sophistication.

Amazing experience for an SUV with outstanding handling and performance! The interior is absolutely stunning and has more luxury than any MB or BMW I have ever owned…all this with Acura reliability. The SH-AWD ensures a confident handling experience in all types of weather. ELS sound system is second to none with 25 speakers and 3D surround sound. Couldn’t ask for anything more from an SUV…this coming from a sports sedan diehard who would have never owned an SUV until now….well done Acura!!!

I like the elegant design and great safety rating, and probably reliable. I think this car can hold value. If this package has 360 camera, it will make my decision quicker. I compared it with palasade premium package and volvo xc90. Finally picked MDX because of the smooth purchase experience.

How much does the 2023 Acura MDX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $38,800 |
| Year-Round Low | $38,800 |
| Year-Round High | $42,216 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $42,214 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −8.09% |
Prices have softened 8.09% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,941 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2023 Acura MDX a good car?
Yes — the 2023 Acura MDX earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 7/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.
It stands out as Acura’s midsize three-row crossover SUV, with styling as one of its clear strengths. It also brings a complimentary three-year subscription to AcuraLink connected services and scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles, which improves the ownership package.
The trade-offs are clear: poor fuel economy and a cramped third row can limit its appeal if you prioritize efficiency or maximum family space. The expert evaluation also points to poor ergonomic design, so you should expect some everyday usability compromises.
Good and great deals account for 37.0% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Acura MDX reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2023 MDX is presented as a strong ownership choice thanks to its solid safety reputation and Acura’s complimentary maintenance and connected-services coverage. The model’s overall package suggests a premium SUV that should feel reassuring over time, especially if you value a well-supported ownership experience.
Its performance character is less convincing in the Type S setup, where the drivetrain and braking behavior can feel inconsistent. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is more about choosing the right configuration and condition than worrying about the model’s basic durability story.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Acura MDX?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the vehicle history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-trim example. Focus on cabin condition, control usability, and signs that the tech and driver-assistance systems work as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The standard MDX comes in a base level of specification with available Technology, A-Spec, and Advance packages, while the MDX Type S is offered in standard spec or with an Advance package. The base setup already includes a panoramic sunroof, but higher packages add more equipment and the Type S brings a more upscale cabin treatment.
- Powertrain: The standard model uses a 3.5-liter V6, while the Type S uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. The Type S also pairs that engine with a 10-speed automatic transmission and Super Handling All-Wheel Drive.
- Safety package: Acura Watch includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control with low-speed following capability, and Traffic Jam Assist. Every 2023 MDX also includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while certain trim packages add front and rear parking sensors, low-speed automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
- Infotainment: The cabin uses a configurable 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 12.3-inch infotainment display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with Amazon Alexa Built-In and AcuraLink connected services.
- Fuel efficiency: The Type S averaged 16.9 mpg in evaluation driving and returned 17 mpg in city driving, with an official combined rating of 19 mpg.
Which 2023 Acura MDX trim should I buy?
The 2023 Acura MDX is offered in 6 trim levels: base, Technology, A-Spec, Advance, Type S, and Type S Advance.
Here's the short version:
- base: This is the starting point if you want the MDX’s core strengths without paying for extra equipment. It gives you the stylish design, standard panoramic sunroof, and the basic three-row layout, but it is the trim where you’ll feel the biggest equipment gap versus the better-equipped versions.
- Technology: This is the logical step up if you want more convenience and a better-equipped daily driver without jumping into the pricier performance side of the lineup. It should suit you if you want a more complete luxury-SUV experience while staying focused on value.
- A-Spec: This is the best-value choice if you want the sportier look and a more engaging personality without the Type S’s compromises. The expert evaluation specifically recommends sticking with the standard MDX with the A-Spec package if you want a fun-to-drive version that remains more predictable.
- Advance: This is the comfort-leaning choice if you want more upscale features and a more premium feel. It adds equipment that makes the MDX feel more luxurious and better suited to long-distance use.
- Type S: This is the performance-oriented trim, with the turbocharged V6, SH-AWD, adaptive air suspension, and larger brakes. It is the right pick if you want the most powerful MDX, but the expert evaluation says its drivetrain and brake behavior do not come together as cleanly as they should.
- Type S Advance: This is the most lavish version, combining the Type S hardware with the richest cabin presentation. It suits you if you want the top-end equipment and are willing to pay for it.
Certain trim packages add front and rear parking sensors, low-speed automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Acura MDX?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,941 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.09% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 86.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $38,800, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Acura MDX's resale value?
The current average of $38,800 sits slightly below last year's $42,214.
That decline suggests the market has moved in buyers’ favor, which can make the MDX easier to purchase now than it was a year ago. For a future seller, it also means you should expect some pressure on resale if the broader market stays soft.
Even so, the MDX’s strong safety reputation and premium positioning help support demand. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should remain easier to move than neglected ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Acura MDX safe?
The 2023 Acura MDX earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA, though it earned four-star protection ratings for the driver and front passenger in the frontal-impact test.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Acura Watch is the main driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control with low-speed following capability, and Traffic Jam Assist. Every 2023 MDX also includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
Certain trim packages add front and rear parking sensors, low-speed automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system. The main caveat is that the system can issue false lane-departure alerts and, in one case, mistook an overhead sign for an obstacle and briefly braked.
Should I buy a 2023 Acura MDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.09% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds complimentary AcuraLink connected services and scheduled maintenance, improving the ownership package.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $34,204, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $38,800 average.
- It feels like a meaningful step forward with a new platform and a more distinctive presence.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $41,695, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $38,800 average.
- It adds a new Type-S trim level and a broader well-rounded luxury-SUV character.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and ownership perks, the 2023 is the primary path to consider. If you’re price-sensitive, the 2022 is the better value play, while the 2024 makes sense if you want to spend more for the newer-year alternative.
