Used 2022 Volkswagen Jetta for Sale nearGrand Rapids, MI

How much does the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta cost?

Prices have softened 6.00% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,383 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 8/10.

Owners consistently praise the sleek design, smooth performance, impressive fuel economy, and the spacious, well-designed interior. The cabin also gets credit for comfy seats and modern technology, which fits the Jetta’s role as a comfortable, value-minded compact sedan.

The main trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance and an unintuitive technology interface. The overview also makes clear that you should expect a fuel-efficient sedan with a comfortable ride and everyday usability, not a sporty personality.

Good and great deals account for 36.7% of listings, so you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with repeated praise for its smooth performance, fuel economy, and comfortable cabin. That kind of feedback usually matters most when you want a used sedan you can count on for routine commuting and longer ownership.

The expert review also emphasizes the Jetta’s comfortable ride, supportive seats, and competitive highway manners, which reinforces the sense that it’s built for steady everyday use. The cost-effectiveness review adds that a fully loaded version can still land under $30,000, which suggests the model’s ownership proposition stays grounded rather than extravagant.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about luxury complexity and more about making sure the specific car has been maintained well and drives cleanly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volkswagen Jetta?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are common but not universal. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on how the car drives, how the electronics respond, and whether the cabin and controls show signs of heavy wear. Pay extra attention to the condition of the infotainment system and driver-assistance features, since those are part of the Jetta’s appeal.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup is simplified to S, Sport, SE, and SEL, with the Sport replacing the outgoing R-Line and the SEL Premium dropped. The base Jetta S is the least equipped, while the SEL adds the most upscale cabin and tech features.
• Powertrain: The Jetta uses a single 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 158 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. You can get a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic, and the automatic is standard on SE and SEL.
• Safety package: IQ.Drive is the umbrella driver-assistance suite. S and Sport get blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning with automatic braking and pedestrian recognition. A Driver Assistance package adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist on automatic models, while SE and SEL get the full IQ.Drive safety list standard.
• Infotainment: S, Sport, and SE use a 6.5-inch MIB2 system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink, Bluetooth, two USB-C ports, and an SD card multimedia interface. SEL upgrades to an 8-inch MIB3 system with navigation, wireless App-Connect, wireless device charging, multi-phone pairing, and enhanced voice recognition.
• Fuel efficiency: The manual is rated at 29 mpg city, 43 mpg highway, and 34 mpg combined. Automatic S and Sport models are rated at 31 mpg city, 41 mpg highway, and 35 mpg combined, while automatic SE and SEL models are rated at 29 mpg city, 40 mpg highway, and 33 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Volkswagen Jetta trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta is offered in 4 trim levels: S, Sport, SE, and SEL.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, but it still gets the refreshed Jetta’s core value story and can be upgraded with the Driver Assistance package if you want more safety tech.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more equipment and keeps pricing well below the upper trims while still offering a strong feature set.
• SE: This is the smart middle ground if you want the full IQ.Drive safety suite standard without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• SEL: This is the pick if you want the most advanced tech, including the larger digital cockpit and the upgraded infotainment system.

The safety-package note to keep in mind is that the full IQ.Drive safety list is standard on SE and SEL, while S and Sport need the available Driver Assistance package for the fuller suite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Volkswagen Jetta?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,383 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.00% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,742, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta's resale value?

The current average of $17,742 sits slightly below last year's $18,875.

That price movement suggests the Jetta has become more accessible for buyers, which can help demand in the near term. For you as a future seller, it means the market is currently valuing this model year more conservatively than it did a year ago.

If prices stabilize, that could support resale value for well-kept examples with desirable equipment. Trim, condition, mileage, and service history will matter a lot if you want to stand out later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta safe?

The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta has yet to receive crash safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard IQ.Drive includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning with automatic braking and pedestrian recognition on S and Sport trims. The available Driver Assistance package adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist, while SE and SEL get the full IQ.Drive safety list standard.

A key caveat is that the Jetta’s IIHS history includes weak headlight results, along with lower marks for LATCH use and the vehicle’s overall structure and safety cage. Travel Assist also is not a hands-free system and can need extra guidance on sweeping highway curves.

Should I buy a 2022 Volkswagen Jetta or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.00% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a refreshed powertrain, upgraded tech, and more standard features without changing the Jetta’s basic formula.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $19,542, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $17,742 average.
• It adds a more refined tech recommendation, especially for SEL and above.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2022 is the stronger buy because it combines lower pricing with solid inventory and a strong owner satisfaction signal. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2023 is the cleaner upgrade path, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2022 while good listings are still available.
