• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.33% compared with last year.

What is the 2022 Volkswagen ID.4's resale value?

The current average of $20,965 sits slightly below last year's $22,624.

That softer pricing can help you buy at a more favorable entry point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market keeps easing. If you plan to sell later, buying near the low end of the range gives you more room to preserve value. Strong demand for well-rated examples can still help support pricing when it's time to trade in or list privately.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 45.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $18,807, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $20,965 average.
• It introduced Volkswagen’s mainstream electric crossover approach.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $22,692, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $20,965 average.
• It adds a new base model and more standard tech features.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-around pick if you want a favorable price trend, strong deal availability, and high owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the better value play; if you want newer features and can stretch your budget, the 2023 is the more appealing upgrade path.
