How much does the 2022 Toyota Corolla cost?

Prices have softened 4.05% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,321 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla a good car?

Generally — the 2022 Toyota Corolla earns 4.17/5 from owners and 7.17/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its dependable design, practicality, and value for money, and they also describe it as a solid car that feels well worth the investment. The Corolla’s broad configurability also helps: you can shop it as a sedan or hatchback, with manual and automatic transmissions and multiple powertrain choices. The main trade-offs are outdated technology and sluggish performance, with a design that may not appeal to everyone.

Given its compact-car mission, the Corolla makes the most sense if you want a sensible, versatile daily driver rather than something especially exciting. 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla reliable?

Owners rate it 4.17/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable design, and the broader consensus is that it’s a solid car that’s well worth the investment. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Corolla is a reliable and sensible compact car, with a reputation for being easy to live with over time. Toyota’s warranty coverage is in line with the segment, and the Corolla’s strong safety and practicality help reinforce its durability-minded appeal.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright weakness and more about finding a well-kept example, since condition and maintenance history will matter more than the badge alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Corolla?

At 70.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and prioritize any signs of prior bodywork, airbag deployment, or inconsistent panel gaps. A pre-purchase inspection is especially worthwhile if you’re considering a higher-mileage car or one with a lower price than the rest of the market. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE and XSE models get more aggressive front styling, while Nightshade Editions add blacked-out trim and Apex Editions add bronze accents and model-specific 18-inch wheels. The base L is the simplest version, so you’ll want to check whether you’re giving up features you care about.
• Powertrain: The L, LE, and XLE use a 1.8-liter four-cylinder, while the SE and XSE use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The 2.0-liter is also available with a six-speed manual on the SE and SE Apex Edition, and every 2022 Corolla is front-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic high beams, Lane Tracing Assist, adaptive cruise control, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, but not standard on all trim levels.
• Infotainment: The L gets a 7-inch touchscreen, while all other trim levels get an 8-inch screen. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, WiFi connectivity, Amazon Alexa integration, and SiriusXM are standard, but wireless CarPlay and Android Auto are not offered.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter engine with CVT is rated at up to 34 mpg combined, and the manual-transmission SE Apex Edition is rated at 31 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Corolla is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LE, XLE, SE, and XSE.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the simplest entry point, and it makes sense if your priority is getting into a Corolla at the lowest trim level. You still get the Corolla’s core safety and practicality, but you give up the larger touchscreen and some of the nicer equipment found higher up the range.
• LE: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more everyday convenience without pushing you into the sportier, pricier trims. It’s a smart middle ground if you want the Corolla’s sensible character with a better equipment balance.
• XLE: Choose this if you want a more comfort-oriented Corolla with a higher-end feel. It’s the trim to consider if you care more about a nicer daily commute than sporty styling.
• SE: This is the trim to buy if you want the Corolla to feel more engaging. It brings the 2.0-liter engine, and it’s also the starting point for the manual transmission, which makes it the most appealing choice for drivers who want a little more involvement.
• XSE: Pick this if you want the most upscale and well-equipped gas Corolla sedan. It layers on the strongest mix of features and is also one of the trims that can get the available premium audio system.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard, but blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is not standard on all trim levels.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Corolla?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,321 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.05% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,149, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Corolla's resale value?

The current average of $18,544 sits slightly below last year's $19,327.

That softer pricing suggests the Corolla is already in a buyer-friendly phase, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. A lower entry cost can leave more room for depreciation to work in your favor over time, especially if you choose a well-kept example with strong equipment and a clean history. The Corolla’s broad appeal should continue to support demand, but resale will still depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim desirability.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.17/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla safe?

The 2022 Toyota Corolla earns an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and four-star ratings in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic high beams, Lane Tracing Assist, adaptive cruise control, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, but not standard on all trim levels.

One caveat is that the IIHS noted lower headlight ratings on some trims, with headlights receiving Acceptable or Marginal scores depending on configuration.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.05% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.17/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 keeps the Corolla’s broad configuration range, including sedan and hatchback body styles, manual and automatic transmissions, and multiple powertrain options.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $17,082, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $18,544 average.
• It blends affordability, reliability, and efficiency with a more engaging SE and XSE character.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger overall shopping position, the 2022 is the better primary target because it combines a lower-than-last-year price trend with broad availability and strong safety. If your main goal is to spend less upfront, the 2021 is the better value play, especially if you find one in good condition with the equipment you want.
