How much does the 2022 Toyota Corolla cost?

Prices have softened 4.51% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,307 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla a good car?

Generally — with a 4.17/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating, the 2022 Toyota Corolla lands as a strong everyday pick. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its dependable design, practicality, and value for money, and they also describe it as a solid car that feels well worth the investment. The Corolla’s broad configuration range also helps it fit different needs, from a sensible commuter to a more personalized compact car with multiple body styles and powertrain choices.

The trade-offs are familiar: outdated technology, a potentially polarizing design, and sluggish performance. Even so, the Corolla’s versatility and efficiency-minded setup make it a sensible choice if you want a compact car that prioritizes usefulness over excitement.

With 33.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities.

Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla reliable?

Owners rate it 4.17/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable design and a car that feels practical and worth the money, which is exactly the kind of language you want to hear when shopping used. The expert review also frames the Corolla as a reliable and sensible compact car, with a reputation built around everyday usability and long-term confidence.

Toyota’s warranty coverage is standard for the class, and the Corolla’s broad appeal comes from being a straightforward, easy-to-live-with compact car rather than a complicated one. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the model’s basic formula and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn down by heavy use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Corolla?

At 70.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a lower-priced listing. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the car’s equipment and trim match what you expect from the listing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Corolla’s trim lineup changes the look and feel quite a bit, with SE and XSE models getting a more aggressive front fascia, Nightshade Editions adding blacked-out trim, and Apex Editions bringing a subtle body kit with bronze accents and model-specific 18-inch wheels. Base trims are simpler and less flashy, so you should decide whether you want style upgrades or just straightforward transportation.
• Powertrain: The Corolla sedan offers a 1.8-liter four-cylinder with 139 horsepower and 126 pound-feet of torque on L, LE, and XLE models, while SE and XSE models use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 169 hp and 151 lb-ft. A CVT is standard with the smaller engine, and the 2.0-liter can also be paired with a six-speed manual on SE and SE Apex Edition models.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic high beams, Lane Tracing Assist, adaptive cruise control, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, but it isn’t standard on all trim levels.
• Infotainment: A 7-inch touchscreen is standard on the L, while all other trim levels get an 8-inch screen. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, WiFi connectivity, Amazon Alexa integration, and SiriusXM are standard, but wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not offered.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter engine with CVT is rated at up to 34 mpg combined, and the manual-transmission SE Apex Edition is rated at 31 mpg combined. Toyota also offers a Corolla Hybrid sedan rated at 52 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Corolla is offered in 7 trim levels: L, LE, XLE, SE, XSE, Apex Edition, and Nightshade Edition.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the simplest entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost Corolla with the standard safety and connectivity features. It gets the 7-inch touchscreen, while the rest of the lineup moves to an 8-inch display.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the broader everyday appeal of the Corolla lineup without pushing you into the sportier or more expensive grades. It keeps the Corolla focused on practicality and value.
• XLE: Choose this if you want a more upscale Corolla experience and are willing to pay for it. It sits higher in the lineup and is one of the trims that can be paired with the available premium audio system.
• SE: This is the trim to target if you want the Corolla’s more engaging personality. It gets the 2.0-liter engine, and it’s also one of the trims that can be paired with the six-speed manual.
• XSE: This is the most upscale mainstream sport-oriented Corolla trim, combining the stronger engine with more available equipment. It also can be paired with the premium JBL audio system.
• Apex Edition: This is the choice if you want the sportiest Corolla variant in this model year. It adds a more aggressive setup and is aimed at drivers who care more about handling character than ride comfort.
• Nightshade Edition: Pick this if you want the SE or XSE look with darker styling details. It’s mainly about appearance, so it suits buyers who want more visual flair without changing the Corolla’s basic formula.

Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, but it isn’t standard on all trim levels.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Corolla?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to find value.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,307 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.51% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,149, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Corolla's resale value?

The current average of $18,541 sits slightly below last year's $19,416.

That softer pricing suggests the Corolla has become a bit more buyer-friendly in the used market, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. A lower entry cost can also make it easier to preserve value over time, especially if you choose a well-kept example with strong equipment and clean history.

The Corolla’s broad appeal and reputation for dependable ownership should continue to support demand when it’s time to resell. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.17/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla safe?

The 2022 Toyota Corolla earns an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award and five-star ratings from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and four-star ratings in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 brings forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic high beams, Lane Tracing Assist, adaptive cruise control, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, but it isn’t standard on all trim levels.

The main caveat is that headlight performance varies by trim level, with some versions earning lower IIHS headlight ratings than others.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.51% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.17/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 adds two new colors, Ruby Flare and Windchill Pearl, while keeping the Corolla’s broad trim and powertrain flexibility.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $17,063, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $18,541 average.
• It emphasizes affordability, reliability, and efficiency with a more engaging SE and XSE character.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced shopping pool, the 2022 is the safer default because it combines a lower average price than last year with strong safety and broad configuration choices. If your priority is saving money above all else, the 2021 is the better value path, especially if you find one in good condition with the equipment you want.
