Is the 2022 Toyota Camry a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota Camry earns a 4.88/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, fuel efficiency, and stylish design, and they also value the comfortable interior and strong value for money. Toyota also includes complimentary scheduled maintenance for the first two years of ownership, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the core mechanical reputation and more about finding a well-kept example with the right maintenance history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Camry?

At 70.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or multiple owners. Focus on overall condition, signs of uneven wear, and whether the equipment on the car matches the trim you expect. If you are considering a TRD, pay extra attention to how the car was used and maintained.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Camry TRD stands apart with its more aggressive styling, including an aerodynamic body kit, matte-black 19-inch wheels, red brake calipers, and a sportier cabin presentation. The base SE-based setup also means some interior touches can feel less upscale than you might expect at the price.
• Powertrain: You can choose a four-cylinder engine, a V6 engine, or a gas-electric hybrid powertrain. The V6 is the standout for stronger acceleration, while the hybrid is the efficiency leader.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard and includes adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assistance. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the TRD but optional on LE and SE.
• Infotainment: The TRD comes with a standard 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and SiriusXM satellite radio. A 9-inch touchscreen is available, and Toyota also includes Safety Connect and WiFi Connect subscription services.
• Fuel efficiency: The Camry TRD is rated at 25 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 24.8 mpg.

Which 2022 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Camry is offered in 1 trim level: TRD.

Here's the short version:

It suits you best if you care more about driving feel and style than maximum comfort or the lowest price.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert comes standard on the TRD.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,337 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.00% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,365, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Camry's resale value?

The current average of $23,258 sits slightly below last year's $23,734.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, which can make resale a little less aggressive in the near term. If you plan to sell later, the Camry’s broad appeal should still help support demand, especially because shoppers continue to value its reliability, efficiency, and safety. The current price range also suggests there is still meaningful market interest, even with the year-over-year dip.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Camry safe?

The 2022 Toyota Camry earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings in every NHTSA test.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard and includes adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assistance, which together create a hands-on highway driving aid. Safety Connect is also standard and includes automatic collision notification, an emergency assistance button, roadside assistance access, and a stolen vehicle locator.

One caveat is that the lane-departure warning and lane-centering systems can be overly sensitive or intrusive in some driving situations. Even so, the overall safety package is a major strength, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the TRD.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.00% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 stands out for its available V6 power, standard advanced safety features, and strong value for money.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,776, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,258 average.
• It offers more flexibility with multiple powertrains, trim levels, and available all-wheel drive.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-year value story and are drawn to the 2022’s safety, reliability, and V6-powered TRD character, this is the better pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter budget path and still gives you a broad set of choices.
