Used 2022 Subaru Outback for Sale nearUtica, NY

How much does the 2022 Subaru Outback cost?

Prices have softened 7.71% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,329 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2022 Subaru Outback a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Subaru Outback earns a 4.75/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its safety, value for the price, and performance in snowy conditions. They also like the driving experience and the rugged look, which fits the Outback’s more adventure-focused personality.

The trade-offs are familiar: the power can feel modest, especially from the base engine, and the infotainment system can be complicated to use.

For you, that means this model makes the most sense if you want a practical, all-weather vehicle with a tougher character than a typical crossover. The market also looks reasonably healthy, with 38.2% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2022 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle people feel good about living with over time, especially because it comes across as dependable, trouble-free, and well suited to long-term use. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that it serves as a comfortable daily driver while handling bad weather especially well, which supports the case for everyday dependability.

If you want a used Outback for regular commuting, winter driving, and weekend trips, that combination is encouraging. The main long-term ownership risk is that a neglected example could be less satisfying if you expect strong acceleration or a simple infotainment experience.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Subaru Outback?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are not the same as guaranteed problem-free vehicles. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the drivetrain, tires, brakes, and any signs of hard use. Since this version is aimed at rougher terrain and outdoor trips, condition matters more than usual if the vehicle has seen trail, snow, or towing duty.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Wilderness trim adds a higher ride height, more aggressive all-terrain tires, improved approach and departure angles, and rugged exterior and interior touches. It also brings a roof rack and roof rail system with a 700-pound static load rating, plus waterproof rear seatback material and a waterproof cargo tray. The base setup lacks some of the Wilderness-specific capability and appearance upgrades.
• Powertrain: You get a turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four with 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT and standard all-wheel drive. It also has paddle shifters, revised final-drive ratios, and a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 lbs.
• Safety package: EyeSight includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, and a driver monitoring system. The Wilderness also adds steering-responsive headlights, blind-spot warning with lane-change assistance, and rear cross-traffic warning. DriverFocus is not included on this trim.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses an 11.6-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, and the system keeps physical knobs for volume and tuning plus buttons for temperature and defogging. Voice recognition can be frustrating if you do not use the right prompts.
• Fuel efficiency: The Wilderness is rated at 24 mpg in combined driving, and testing returned 21.3 mpg on a mountainous route.

Which 2022 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2022 Subaru Outback is offered in 1 trim level: Wilderness.

Here's the short version:

The Wilderness is the clear choice if you want the most rugged, adventure-ready version of the Outback. It adds the lifted stance, all-terrain tires, skid protection, revised traction hardware, and the most off-pavement capability in the lineup. It also keeps the standard safety tech and the large touchscreen, so you are not giving up the core Outback strengths.

If you want the most capable version and plan to use it for rough roads, snow, camping, or trail access, this is the one to buy. The safety package is strong, but note that DriverFocus is not included on this trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Subaru Outback?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing.

• Deal availability: 38.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,329 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.71% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,823, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $23,823 sits slightly below last year's $25,813.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy at a better entry point today. For a future seller, the current softness means resale upside may depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market momentum alone.

Well-kept examples with strong equipment and clean history should still attract attention, especially because this model has broad appeal for all-weather use and outdoor versatility. If you maintain it carefully, you should be in a better position when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Subaru Outback safe?

The 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness was not crash-tested in the material provided, but the standard Outback earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

EyeSight is the core driver-assistance suite, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, and a driver monitoring system. The Wilderness also adds steering-responsive headlights, blind-spot warning with lane-change assistance, and rear cross-traffic warning.

One important caveat is that DriverFocus distraction mitigation is not included on this trim. Even so, the safety package is a major strength and one of the Outback Wilderness’s most compelling reasons to buy.

Should I buy a 2022 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 38.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.71% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 Wilderness focuses on rugged capability, standard safety tech, and outdoor usefulness.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $22,124, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,823 average.
• It emphasizes practicality, reliability, and standard all-wheel drive.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $25,908, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $23,823 average.
• It adds fresh styling, updated infotainment, and newer safety tech.

The bottom line: If you want the most adventure-focused Outback and value strong safety and all-weather capability, the 2022 is the right target. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value play; if you want newer features and are willing to pay more, the 2023 is the upgrade path.
