Used 2022 Subaru Outback for Sale near North Carolina

How much does the 2022 Subaru Outback cost?

Prices have softened 8.06% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,372 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Subaru Outback a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Subaru Outback earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its safety features, value, and performance in snowy conditions, and they also like the rugged look and driving experience. The Outback’s practical shape and outdoor-focused setup make it a strong fit if you want a versatile daily driver with extra capability for rough weather and weekend trips.

The main trade-offs are the potentially polarizing design and unintuitive technology. That means you should expect a vehicle that leans more toward function and adventure than polished style or especially intuitive controls.

Good and great deals account for 33.3% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with owners repeatedly highlighting safety, value, and confidence in snowy conditions. The expert review also describes it as a comfortable daily driver that can handle harsh weather well, which supports the case for long-term usefulness.

The main ownership risk for used buyers is that the technology and powertrain feel can be less satisfying than the rest of the package, so a careful test drive matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Subaru Outback?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper history review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the drivetrain, electronics, and any signs of hard use. Since this version is aimed at outdoor capability, pay close attention to wear on the interior, tires, and underbody.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Wilderness trim adds a higher ride height, more aggressive all-terrain tires, revised bumpers, blacked-out exterior trim with Anodized Copper accents, a matte black hood decal, and a roof rack and rail system with a 700-pound static load rating. It also uses StarTex water-repellant upholstery, heated seats, all-weather floor mats, and waterproof rear seatback and cargo-area materials.
• Powertrain: The Wilderness uses a turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four with 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT and standard all-wheel drive. It is tuned for capability, with 3,500 pounds of towing capacity, 24 mpg in combined driving, and revised gearing for better climbing ability.
• Safety package: EyeSight includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, and a driver monitoring system. The Wilderness also adds steering-responsive headlights, blind-spot warning with lane-change assistance, and rear cross-traffic warning, while DriverFocus is not included.
• Infotainment: The cabin centers on an 11.6-inch portrait touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, but most functions run through the screen, and the voice-recognition system can be frustrating if you do not use the right prompts.
• Fuel efficiency: The Wilderness is rated at 24 mpg in combined driving, and the review notes an observed 21.3 mpg on a mountainous route.

Which 2022 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The Wilderness is the clear choice if you want the most rugged, adventure-focused Outback. It adds the higher stance, all-terrain tires, skid protection, revised bumpers, and trail-ready traction features that make it the most capable version in the lineup. It also brings the strongest outdoor personality, but you should be comfortable with its softer on-road feel and less intuitive tech.

The Wilderness trim also comes with the standard EyeSight safety suite, plus blind-spot warning, lane-change assistance, rear cross-traffic warning, and steering-responsive headlights.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Subaru Outback?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,372 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.06% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 84.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,541, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $23,541 sits slightly below last year's $25,606.

That softer pricing can help you buy more affordably now, but it also means a future seller may face a market that is still adjusting downward. If demand stays steady, the Outback’s practical reputation and broad appeal should help support used-market interest.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Subaru Outback safe?

The 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness was not crash-tested in the review material, but standard Outbacks earned a "Top Safety Pick+" rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

EyeSight is the core driver-assistance suite, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, and a driver monitoring system. The Wilderness also adds steering-responsive headlights, blind-spot warning with lane-change assistance, and rear cross-traffic warning.

One important caveat is that DriverFocus distraction mitigation is not included on the Wilderness trim.
