Used 2022 Subaru Ascent for Sale nearSan Antonio, TX

How much does the 2022 Subaru Ascent cost?

Prices have softened 12.06% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,486 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Subaru Ascent earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

It stands out as Subaru’s three-row SUV for you if you need more than five-passenger seating, and it leans into the brand’s strengths in durability, safety, and confident travel in varied weather and road conditions. The standard all-wheel drive and family-hauling layout make it especially relevant if you want a practical SUV with all-weather confidence.

The trade-offs are clear: the third row is cramped, and the styling is uninspired. It also performs better with lane-keeping and lane-centering assistance turned off.

With 39.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2022 Ascent is framed around durability and safety, and Subaru’s standard all-wheel drive reinforces that practical, confidence-inspiring character. Its turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, CVT, and standard AWD give you a straightforward powertrain setup, while the CVT is described as remarkably good and the SUV is said to deliver brisk acceleration and commendable passing power.

Subaru also includes X-Mode off-road traction control, hill descent control, and 8.7 inches of ground clearance, which adds to its usefulness in rough weather and on imperfect roads. The first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which is a nice ownership perk.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the Ascent’s value depends heavily on condition and how well its safety and driver-assistance systems have aged in real-world use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Subaru Ascent?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example. Focus on overall condition, interior wear, and whether the vehicle’s safety and driver-assistance features behave as expected during a test drive.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Limited, and Touring are the trim levels named for this model year. The base trim starts with a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while Premium adds an 8-inch display and more connected features. The Onyx Edition adds blacked-out exterior trim, black 20-inch wheels, a unique grille, and StarTex upholstery, while Touring adds extra technology features.
• Powertrain: Every 2022 Ascent uses a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and standard all-wheel drive. Subaru says it can tow up to 5,000 pounds, and the setup is described as brisk and capable.
• Safety package: EyeSight is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with lane-centering technology. Every Ascent also gets steering responsive LED headlights with automatic high-beam assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert requires Premium trim or higher.
• Infotainment: Base models get a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, satellite radio, and a CD player. Premium trim adds an 8-inch display with available Starlink connected services, including a WiFi hotspot and remote engine starting with climate control pre-conditioning.
• Fuel efficiency: Versions with 20-inch wheels are rated at 22 mpg combined, and testing returned 20.5 mpg on the evaluation loop.

Which 2022 Subaru Ascent trim should I buy?

The 2022 Subaru Ascent is offered in 5 trim levels: Base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Limited, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the entry point if you want the Ascent’s core strengths at the lowest price. You still get standard all-wheel drive, EyeSight, and the basic infotainment setup, but you miss out on the added convenience and safety equipment that comes with higher trims.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 8-inch display and unlocks blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. If you want the most useful upgrade without jumping too far up the price ladder, this is the one to focus on.
• Onyx Edition: Choose this if you want the midline trim with a more distinctive look and water-resistant StarTex upholstery. It adds blacked-out exterior trim, black 20-inch wheels, and a unique grille, making it a better fit if style and practicality both matter to you.
• Limited: This trim sits above the Onyx Edition and is part of the lineup for shoppers who want a more upscale Ascent without going all the way to the top. It’s the step to consider if you want more equipment than Premium but don’t need the Touring’s extra tech.
• Touring: Pick this if you want the most feature-rich version, including the extra technology features reserved for this trim. It’s the right choice if you want the most complete Ascent experience and are willing to pay for it.

Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert requires Premium trim or higher.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Subaru Ascent?

The market looks moderately favorable for selective buyers.

• Deal availability: 39.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,486 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.06% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,212, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Subaru Ascent's resale value?

The current average of $25,212 sits slightly below last year's $28,671.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the Ascent more appealing to used buyers now than it was a year ago. For a future seller, that also means you should expect resale value to depend more on condition, trim, and equipment than on broad market momentum.

The good news is that the Ascent still has strong practical appeal, especially for shoppers who want a three-row Subaru with standard all-wheel drive. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent safe?

The 2022 Subaru Ascent gets a "Top Safety Pick+" award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the highest possible rating in all of the organization’s assessments. It also earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA evaluations except rollover resistance, where it earns a four-star rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

EyeSight is standard and includes numerous collision-avoidance and driving aids, including adaptive cruise control with lane-centering technology. Every Ascent also gets steering responsive LED headlights with automatic high-beam assist.

There are a couple of caveats to keep in mind: the camera-based system can struggle in low, direct sunlight, and the adaptive cruise control and lane-centering tech can feel less refined than you might want. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is not standard and requires Premium trim or higher.

Should I buy a 2022 Subaru Ascent or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 39.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.06% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 adds the new Onyx Edition, which brings blacked-out exterior trim and water-resistant upholstery.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,649, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $25,212 average.
• It offers standard all-wheel drive and a spacious cabin.

The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year update and are shopping in a market with decent deal availability, the 2022 is the better primary choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter price-sensitive alternative.
