The 2022 Ram 2500 gets a new Uconnect 5 infotainment system that offers over-the-air (OTA) software updates, a more refined interface, and more. Ram added a new Silver Edition package for select trims and upgraded the Power Wagon with a new options package. Pricing starts at just shy of $43,000 and ranges to more than $70,000. Like almost all new pickup truck models, the Ram 2500 can be upgraded and optioned in several ways, all of which drive the starting price northward. The Ram 2500 comes standard with a 6.0-liter V8 making 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. Most trims are also offered with a 6.7-liter diesel inline-six that produces 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque. Ram offers an upgraded version of the same engine in the 3500 pickup that delivers 1,075 pound-feet of torque. The gas engine comes paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the diesel mill comes with a six-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) are both available. The job of a heavy-duty truck is really to tow and haul stuff, so the Ram 2500 has to perform. The truck is rated to tow up to 19,010 pounds when properly equipped, and it manages a payload of 2,380 pounds. Even the base truck can tow well in excess of 10,000 pounds, making it a far more capable pickup than most people will ever want or need. Ram offers three configurations for the 2500, including a single cab, a crew cab, and an extra-large mega cab variant. Just like the 1500, the heavy-duty 2500 features one of the plushest, most luxurious cabs in its segment. Ram used high-end materials and unique detail work to set the truck apart from the rest of its work-ready rivals. All models get acoustic glass and noise cancellation that give the truck a serene and quiet interior at odds with its rugged work-site attitude. An 8-inch touchscreen is standard. It runs Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM radio, and more. Ram offers USB ports and a basic audio system as standard, but several upgrades are available, including navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, additional USB ports, and as many as three 115V outlets. Just like in other Ram trucks, an enormous 12-inch display is available. It can run two apps at once, such as Apple CarPlay and climate controls, stacked one on top of the other on the large screen. Ram offers several advanced driver aids for the 2500, but none are available as standard equipment. Optional tech includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warnings, and automatic emergency braking. Because of their commercial positioning, heavy-duty trucks don’t typically get safety scores, and the same is true for the Ram 2500. Neither major testing agency has given the pickup a crash-test score.
