CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Polestar 2
overall

Summary
With 426 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,918.00, 36.9% of 2022 Polestar 2s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Polestar 2 4 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
90.1% of 2022 Polestar 2 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Polestar 2 stands out as the brand’s first major push into the luxury electric-vehicle market, with Polestar aiming to compete against Tesla and Audi. It also carries the backing of Geely Car Groups, which gives the fledgling brand a stronger foundation than many new automakers have. That positioning helps define the car’s appeal: it is meant to feel like a serious premium EV rather than a niche experiment.
What makes the 2022 Polestar 2 distinctive is the combination of stylish design, impressive technology, and premium interior materials. Those strengths give it a polished, upscale character that should attract buyers looking for a modern electric car with a luxury feel. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though, because visibility is poor, cargo space is limited, and the car is described as poor value for money.

Comparable models Ive driven include Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, both of which I loved. My wife and I were fortunate enough to have been given access to a 2021 Launch Edition for a couple months, with no intention of buying it. Well that intention changed about the minute we took our first drive, and our sentiment only intensified after that, finding more and more subtle features that we just love about the thing. Instantly you feel immediate torque. The cocoon like cockpit makes you feel super secure in the car, and in absolute control for a better driving experience. the digital dashboard cluster shows the map and other data, while the 11.2-inch tablet touch panel provides easy intuitive access to features like climate control, safety features, maps, charging locations, individual or overhead camera, music sources, the Vivaldi browser, et al. The accelerator pedal long travel is just perfect, and not twitchy like others that felt like it was going to take off on the slightest press. Steering wheel feels nice and tight, not to floaty, nor too twitchy like a video game. This car just feels so right and didnt take very long at all to get accustomed to. Best handling car Ive ever piloted, for superb driving experience. theres nothing not to like, other than occasional glitches like linking my phone one when wife unlocked with her key fob, set her profile (apps, one pedal drive off), her seat position etc, but strangely blue toothed to my phone. Update to P1.9 seems to have corrected it since we can not reproduce. the car has nice overhead connect button that calls Polestar. I had to use this once when friend was messing with the overhead SOS button. favorite feature might be Tesla-like regenerative braking that Polestar calls One-pedal drive, where you seldom have to use the brakes, its tuned just so perfectly and feels great with visual graph showing you how much charge youre putting back into the battery. least favorite might be that Polestar scaled down the non-Pilot pack too much, eliminating safety features we feel essential, like 360 cam thats useful to perfectly position it in a tight garage. We ended up using the car for recreation, parked in garage to listen to music and just hang out. Id do wish they had Apple CarPlaycompleted (though Google Automotive OS is really nicely integrated), a Head-Up Display, and streaming apps to watch Netflix using the 13-speaker HK surround sound system. we got so many compliments and gawkers, wife was so happy to hear mid 20-something shout out AWESOME CAR. it made her day. she now despises driving her gas car, so were committed to EV, soon to be leasing a Polestar 2 and slapping down money on a Polestar 3 the second pre-orders become available later this year for delivery next. in summary, its been 25+ years since Ive had so much fun driving, just plain driving when it was fun before the novelty wore off. Id arrive home from an errand and try and find somewhere else I needed to go, or take the long way home bc I didnt want the music to end. recommended : Strong Buy

Nice looking car. Smaller than I expected on the inside. The lack of thought to cupholders and the waste of space with the center console really hinder it being a comfortable and usable experience for the price.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about making sure the car has been maintained, updated, and not neglected in ways that could affect EV systems or ownership costs.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Polestar 2?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially because visibility is poor and some cars may have been optioned very differently from others. Focus on overall condition, feature content, and whether the car has the equipment you want, since some desirable items were moved into packages.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The 2022 Polestar 2 you purchase may not necessarily look or feel quite as nice as a 2021 Polestar 2 unless you spring for the Performance Pack and Plus Pack.
- Powertrain: The Dual Motor car uses all-wheel drive and delivers 408 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque, while the Single Motor trim uses front-wheel drive with 231 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque and a longer standard range.
- Safety package: Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection is standard, along with lane-keeping assist, road-sign recognition, and driver alert. Blind-spot monitoring with steering support, cross-traffic alert, rear-collision warning and mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and the surround-view camera are part of the Pilot Pack.
- Infotainment: The car uses a fully embedded Google-based infotainment system with built-in voice control, Google Play Store apps, wireless convenience, and regular OTA updates. It also offers three years of complimentary AT&T data service.
- Range & charging: The Single Motor model is estimated at 265 miles of range, while the Dual Motor model is estimated at 249 miles. The battery pack has 75 kWh of usable capacity, and DC fast charging can take about 33 minutes from 10% to 80%.
- Battery health: On a used EV, you should check battery state-of-health, confirm how the car has been charged over time, and review how much of the battery warranty remains so you understand long-term risk.
Which 2022 Polestar 2 trim should I buy?
The 2022 Polestar 2 is offered in 2 trim levels: Dual Motor and Single Motor.
Here's the short version:
- Single Motor: This is the better-value choice if you want the lower starting price and longer standard range. It keeps the Polestar 2’s core appeal — the premium cabin, strong tech, and clean design — while giving you the front-wheel-drive setup and the most range of the two.
- Dual Motor: Choose this if you want the quicker, more powerful version with all-wheel drive and the stronger performance numbers. It suits you best if acceleration and all-weather traction matter more than maximizing range or minimizing purchase price.
The safety package is incomplete on both trims, since several desirable driver-assistance features are reserved for the Pilot Pack.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Polestar 2?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 446 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.00% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 91.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,212.26, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Polestar 2's resale value?
The current average of $23,058 sits slightly below last year's $26,504.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at a strong price, you reduce the risk of taking a bigger depreciation hit later.
The model’s premium positioning and strong tech appeal can still support demand, especially among shoppers who want a luxury EV with a distinctive design. But the softer pricing trend means future resale will likely depend heavily on condition, equipment, and how well the car has been kept.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Polestar 2 safe?
It has not been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection is standard, along with lane-keeping assist, road-sign recognition, and driver alert. Blind-spot monitoring with steering support, cross-traffic alert, rear-collision warning and mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and the surround-view camera are available through the Pilot Pack.
The main caveat is that several important driver-assistance features are not standard, so you should pay close attention to whether a used example has the Pilot Pack if safety tech matters to you.
Should I buy a 2022 Polestar 2 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.00% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It adds a new Single Motor trim and lowers the starting MSRP while keeping the brand’s premium EV focus.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $20,669, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,058 average.
- It brings standard all-wheel drive and a powerful engine.
The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped, more current shopping market and the option of a lower-priced Single Motor version, the 2022 is the stronger default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the core Polestar 2 experience.
