CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Polestar 2
overall

Summary
With 450 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,751, 39.1% of 2022 Polestar 2s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Polestar 2 4 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
90.2% of 2022 Polestar 2 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Polestar 2 stands out as the brand’s first major push into the luxury electric vehicle market, with the aim of competing against the Teslas and Audis of the EV world. It also carries the backing of Geely Car Groups, which gives the fledgling brand a stronger foundation than many new automakers have. That positioning helps explain why the Polestar 2 is presented as a serious premium contender rather than just another electric newcomer.
What makes it appealing is the combination of stylish design, impressive technology, and premium interior materials. Those strengths give it a polished, upscale feel that should resonate with buyers looking for something distinctive. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though: visibility is poor, cargo space is limited, and it is described as poor value for money. For shoppers who prioritize design and a premium cabin over practicality and price, the 2022 Polestar 2 has a clear identity.

Comparable models Ive driven include Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, both of which I loved. My wife and I were fortunate enough to have been given access to a 2021 Launch Edition for a couple months, with no intention of buying it. Well that intention changed about the minute we took our first drive, and our sentiment only intensified after that, finding more and more subtle features that we just love about the thing. Instantly you feel immediate torque. The cocoon like cockpit makes you feel super secure in the car, and in absolute control for a better driving experience. the digital dashboard cluster shows the map and other data, while the 11.2-inch tablet touch panel provides easy intuitive access to features like climate control, safety features, maps, charging locations, individual or overhead camera, music sources, the Vivaldi browser, et al. The accelerator pedal long travel is just perfect, and not twitchy like others that felt like it was going to take off on the slightest press. Steering wheel feels nice and tight, not to floaty, nor too twitchy like a video game. This car just feels so right and didnt take very long at all to get accustomed to. Best handling car Ive ever piloted, for superb driving experience. theres nothing not to like, other than occasional glitches like linking my phone one when wife unlocked with her key fob, set her profile (apps, one pedal drive off), her seat position etc, but strangely blue toothed to my phone. Update to P1.9 seems to have corrected it since we can not reproduce. the car has nice overhead connect button that calls Polestar. I had to use this once when friend was messing with the overhead SOS button. favorite feature might be Tesla-like regenerative braking that Polestar calls One-pedal drive, where you seldom have to use the brakes, its tuned just so perfectly and feels great with visual graph showing you how much charge youre putting back into the battery. least favorite might be that Polestar scaled down the non-Pilot pack too much, eliminating safety features we feel essential, like 360 cam thats useful to perfectly position it in a tight garage. We ended up using the car for recreation, parked in garage to listen to music and just hang out. Id do wish they had Apple CarPlaycompleted (though Google Automotive OS is really nicely integrated), a Head-Up Display, and streaming apps to watch Netflix using the 13-speaker HK surround sound system. we got so many compliments and gawkers, wife was so happy to hear mid 20-something shout out AWESOME CAR. it made her day. she now despises driving her gas car, so were committed to EV, soon to be leasing a Polestar 2 and slapping down money on a Polestar 3 the second pre-orders become available later this year for delivery next. in summary, its been 25+ years since Ive had so much fun driving, just plain driving when it was fun before the novelty wore off. Id arrive home from an errand and try and find somewhere else I needed to go, or take the long way home bc I didnt want the music to end. recommended : Strong Buy

Nice looking car. Smaller than I expected on the inside. The lack of thought to cupholders and the waste of space with the center console really hinder it being a comfortable and usable experience for the price.

There are 452 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable range of choices.
Is the 2022 Polestar 2 a good car?
Generally — the 2022 Polestar 2 earns a 4/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.
The Polestar 2 is positioned as a premium EV with stylish design, impressive technology, and premium interior materials, so it fits you best if you want a distinctive electric car with an upscale feel. The trade-offs are clear: visibility is poor, cargo space is limited, and value for money is weak. On the plus side, the cabin presentation and tech-forward character help it feel more polished than a basic commuter EV.
The main compromises are poor rear visibility and limited cargo room, and the pricing/value equation may matter if you want maximum practicality for your money. Even so, 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Polestar 2 reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2022 Polestar 2 is backed by a premium-brand approach to ownership, with three years of complimentary service and maintenance included. Its EV powertrain also avoids the complexity of a traditional gas engine, and the software-driven setup is designed to support over-the-air updates. The car’s long-term appeal should be strongest if you value a modern EV experience and stay on top of battery and software health.
For a used example, your biggest long-term risk is buying one that has been poorly maintained, heavily fast-charged, or neglected on software updates.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Polestar 2?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in frequent DC fast-charging use or shows signs of cosmetic wear. Focus on battery health, charging behavior, and whether the car’s software and driver-assistance features are functioning as expected. Because this is an EV, you’ll want to pay close attention to range consistency and how the car has been used day to day.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The 2022 lineup starts with a lower-priced Single Motor version and a Dual Motor version, and the cheaper car may not feel as richly equipped unless you add packages. The base setup can leave you without some of the nicer features that help the car feel more premium.
- Powertrain: The Single Motor model uses front-wheel drive with 231 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque, while the Dual Motor setup uses all-wheel drive with 408 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque. The single-motor version is the range-focused choice, while the dual-motor car is the quicker and more powerful option.
- Safety package: Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, road-sign recognition, and driver alert are standard. Blind-spot monitoring with steering support, cross-traffic alert, rear-collision warning and mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and the surround-view camera are part of the Pilot Pack.
- Infotainment: The car uses a fully embedded Google-based infotainment system with built-in voice control, Google Play Store apps, and regular over-the-air updates. It also includes four USB-C outlets and supports app-based convenience features through the system.
- Range & charging: The Single Motor model is estimated at 265 miles of range, while the Dual Motor model is estimated at 249 miles. The battery pack has 75 kWh of usable capacity, and DC fast charging can take about 33 minutes from 10% to 80%.
- Battery health: Check battery state-of-health, confirm whether the car has mostly been charged at home or relied heavily on DC fast charging, and review how much of the battery warranty remains. A clean charging history and consistent range readings are especially important on a used EV.
Which 2022 Polestar 2 trim should I buy?
The 2022 Polestar 2 is offered in 2 trim levels: Single Motor and Dual Motor.
Here's the short version:
- Single Motor: This is the better-value choice if you want the lower entry price and the longer estimated range. It gives you the core Polestar 2 experience without paying for the extra performance of the dual-motor setup.
- Dual Motor: Choose this if you want the stronger acceleration and all-wheel drive. It’s the more powerful version, but you’ll want to weigh that against the higher price and the fact that some of the best equipment still lives in optional packages.
The safety package is incomplete on every trim, so if you want blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, or the surround-view camera, you’ll need the Pilot Pack.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Polestar 2?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 452 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.91% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 90.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,207, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Polestar 2's resale value?
The current average of $22,623 sits slightly below last year's $26,279.
That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may pressure future resale values if you plan to sell later. If prices stay soft, your depreciation curve could remain steeper than you’d like. On the other hand, a well-kept example with strong equipment and clean history should still attract shoppers who want a premium EV with distinctive styling.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Polestar 2 safe?
The Polestar 2 has not been crash-tested by NHTSA or IIHS.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety suite includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, road-sign recognition, and driver alert. If you want more advanced assistance, the Pilot Pack adds blind-spot monitoring with steering support, cross-traffic alert, rear-collision warning and mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and a surround-view camera.
A key caveat is that some of the most useful driver-assistance features are not standard, so you should verify package content carefully on any used listing.
Should I buy a 2022 Polestar 2 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.91% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It adds a lower-priced Single Motor option and stronger tech appeal than the earlier version.
Consider the 2021 if:
- It offers standard all-wheel drive and a more familiar Volvo-based foundation.
The bottom line: If you want the better shopping environment and the newer, more flexible 2022 lineup, that’s the primary path. If you’re price-sensitive and find a well-kept 2021 with the equipment you want, it can still make sense as a value play.
