CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Polestar 2
overall

Summary
With 439 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,447, 37.8% of 2022 Polestar 2s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Polestar 2 4 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
90.9% of 2022 Polestar 2 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Polestar 2 stands out as the brand’s first major push into the luxury electric vehicle market, with the aim of competing against the Teslas and Audis of the EV world. It also carries the backing of Geely Car Groups, which gives the fledgling brand a stronger foundation than many new automakers have. That positioning helps explain why the Polestar 2 is presented as a serious premium contender rather than just another electric newcomer.
What makes it appealing is the combination of stylish design, impressive technology, and premium interior materials. Those strengths give it a polished, upscale feel that should resonate with buyers looking for something distinctive. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though: visibility is poor, cargo space is limited, and it is described as poor value for money. For shoppers who prioritize design and a premium cabin over practicality and price, the 2022 Polestar 2 has a clear identity.

Comparable models Ive driven include Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, both of which I loved. My wife and I were fortunate enough to have been given access to a 2021 Launch Edition for a couple months, with no intention of buying it. Well that intention changed about the minute we took our first drive, and our sentiment only intensified after that, finding more and more subtle features that we just love about the thing. Instantly you feel immediate torque. The cocoon like cockpit makes you feel super secure in the car, and in absolute control for a better driving experience. the digital dashboard cluster shows the map and other data, while the 11.2-inch tablet touch panel provides easy intuitive access to features like climate control, safety features, maps, charging locations, individual or overhead camera, music sources, the Vivaldi browser, et al. The accelerator pedal long travel is just perfect, and not twitchy like others that felt like it was going to take off on the slightest press. Steering wheel feels nice and tight, not to floaty, nor too twitchy like a video game. This car just feels so right and didnt take very long at all to get accustomed to. Best handling car Ive ever piloted, for superb driving experience. theres nothing not to like, other than occasional glitches like linking my phone one when wife unlocked with her key fob, set her profile (apps, one pedal drive off), her seat position etc, but strangely blue toothed to my phone. Update to P1.9 seems to have corrected it since we can not reproduce. the car has nice overhead connect button that calls Polestar. I had to use this once when friend was messing with the overhead SOS button. favorite feature might be Tesla-like regenerative braking that Polestar calls One-pedal drive, where you seldom have to use the brakes, its tuned just so perfectly and feels great with visual graph showing you how much charge youre putting back into the battery. least favorite might be that Polestar scaled down the non-Pilot pack too much, eliminating safety features we feel essential, like 360 cam thats useful to perfectly position it in a tight garage. We ended up using the car for recreation, parked in garage to listen to music and just hang out. Id do wish they had Apple CarPlaycompleted (though Google Automotive OS is really nicely integrated), a Head-Up Display, and streaming apps to watch Netflix using the 13-speaker HK surround sound system. we got so many compliments and gawkers, wife was so happy to hear mid 20-something shout out AWESOME CAR. it made her day. she now despises driving her gas car, so were committed to EV, soon to be leasing a Polestar 2 and slapping down money on a Polestar 3 the second pre-orders become available later this year for delivery next. in summary, its been 25+ years since Ive had so much fun driving, just plain driving when it was fun before the novelty wore off. Id arrive home from an errand and try and find somewhere else I needed to go, or take the long way home bc I didnt want the music to end. recommended : Strong Buy

Nice looking car. Smaller than I expected on the inside. The lack of thought to cupholders and the waste of space with the center console really hinder it being a comfortable and usable experience for the price.

Is the 2022 Polestar 2 a good car?
Generally — the 2022 Polestar 2 earns a 4/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.
The 2022 Polestar 2 is positioned as a premium EV aimed at shoppers who want stylish design, impressive technology, and upscale interior materials. That makes it a strong fit if you care more about a polished cabin and distinctive presentation than maximum practicality.
The trade-offs are real: visibility is poor, cargo space is limited, and value for money is weak. It also asks you to accept a car that prioritizes design and tech over everyday utility.
Only 37.5% of listings are marked as good or great deals, so you may need to shop carefully to find the best value.
Is the 2022 Polestar 2 reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2022 Polestar 2 leans on a premium EV formula with strong technology, a refined cabin, and a brand foundation tied to Volvo and Geely. Its electric powertrain also avoids the complexity of a traditional gas engine, which can be appealing if you want a simpler ownership experience.
The performance notes point to a capable chassis and strong acceleration, while the ownership package includes three years of complimentary service and maintenance. That kind of support can reduce early ownership friction.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the battery and charging system are healthy, since those are the most important wear points to verify on an EV.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Polestar 2?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on an EV where battery condition and charging behavior matter. Focus on whether the car has been consistently charged in a way that fits your needs, and make sure the cabin, visibility aids, and tech features all work as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The 2022 Polestar 2 launched with a lower starting price, but some features that were once standard became optional, so you should check whether the car has the packs you want. The base setup may not feel as complete as a better-equipped example.
- Powertrain: You can shop either a single-motor front-wheel-drive setup or a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version. The dual-motor model brings 408 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque, while the single-motor version has 231 hp and 243 lb-ft and is tuned for longer range.
- Safety package: Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, road-sign recognition, and driver alert are standard. Blind-spot monitoring with steering support, cross-traffic alert, rear-collision warning and mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and the surround-view camera are part of the Pilot Pack.
- Infotainment: The car uses a fully embedded Google-based system with built-in voice control, Google Play Store apps, and regular over-the-air updates. It also includes four USB-C outlets and three years of complimentary AT&T data service.
- Range & charging: The single-motor model is estimated at 265 miles of range, while the dual-motor model is estimated at 249 miles. The battery pack has 75 kWh of usable capacity, and DC fast charging can take about 33 minutes from 10% to 80%.
- Battery health: Ask for battery state-of-health information if available, and pay attention to how the car has been charged over time. A used EV that has spent most of its life on home charging is often easier to evaluate than one that has relied heavily on fast charging. Also check how much of the battery warranty remains.
Which 2022 Polestar 2 trim should I buy?
The 2022 Polestar 2 is offered in 2 trim levels: Dual Motor and Single Motor.
Here's the short version:
- Single Motor: This is the better-value choice if you want the lower starting price and the longest range. It uses front-wheel drive, delivers 231 hp and 243 lb-ft, and is the trim to target if efficiency matters more than outright punch.
- Dual Motor: Choose this if you want the stronger performance and all-wheel drive. It brings 408 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque, and it suits you best if you care more about acceleration and all-weather traction than maximum range.
Safety equipment is stronger if you add the Pilot Pack, since several key driver-assistance features are not standard.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Polestar 2?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you have room to shop, but the best listings may not last long.
- Deal availability: 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 437 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.77% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 90.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,207, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Polestar 2's resale value?
The current average of $22,379 sits slightly below last year's $26,257.
That price decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may pressure resale returns if you sell soon. If you buy at the right price, you may have less depreciation left to absorb than an earlier shopper did.
The model's premium positioning and strong tech appeal can still support demand, especially among shoppers who want a distinctive EV. But the weak value-for-money reputation means resale will likely depend heavily on condition, equipment, and pricing discipline.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Polestar 2 safe?
The Polestar 2 has not been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety suite includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, road-sign recognition, and driver alert. If you want blind-spot monitoring with steering support, cross-traffic alert, rear-collision warning and mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and the surround-view camera, you need the Pilot Pack.
One caveat is that some of the most desirable driver-assistance features are not standard, so you should verify equipment carefully on any used listing.
Should I buy a 2022 Polestar 2 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.77% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It adds a lower starting price, a new single-motor option, and stronger tech appeal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- It offers standard all-wheel drive and a more familiar, Volvo-based electric package.
The bottom line: If you want the better shopping environment and the broader trim choice, the 2022 is the smarter path. If you’re mainly chasing standard AWD and a more established setup, the 2021 is worth a look, especially if you find a cleaner or cheaper example.
