Is the 2022 Polestar 2 a good car?

Generally — the 2022 Polestar 2 earns a 4/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

The 2022 Polestar 2 is positioned as a luxury EV aimed at shoppers cross-shopping Teslas and Audis, and its appeal comes through in its stylish design, premium interior materials, and polished, upscale feel. It also brings a tech-forward cabin and a serious attempt to make Polestar a household name rather than just another electric offshoot.

The trade-offs are just as clear: poor visibility, limited cargo space, and poor value for money are the main drawbacks. If you want a stylish, high-tech EV and can live with some practical compromises, it fits that brief well.

41.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Polestar 2 reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2022 Polestar 2 is backed by a brand with Volvo roots and Geely support, which gives it a stronger foundation than many newer EV startups. Its electric powertrain also avoids the complexity of a gas engine, and the expert evaluation highlights a well-executed, premium-feeling package rather than a rushed first effort.

The performance notes point to a capable EV setup with strong acceleration, stable handling, and software-enabled improvements over time, including over-the-air updates. On the ownership side, three years of complimentary service and maintenance adds convenience and reduces early upkeep friction.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about traditional mechanical wear and more about how well the battery, software, and charging hardware have aged.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Polestar 2?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on an EV where software, charging behavior, and battery condition matter as much as cosmetic wear. Focus on how the car has been charged, whether it has any warning lights or charging irregularities, and whether the cabin and visibility issues are acceptable for your daily use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2022 Polestar 2 was offered with a single-motor trim and a dual-motor version, and the cheaper setup may leave you without some of the richer equipment feel you’d get from higher-spec builds. The base experience can also feel less complete if you skip the packs that add key convenience and safety features.
• Powertrain: The single-motor setup uses front-wheel drive with 231 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque, while the dual-motor version adds all-wheel drive and much stronger output. The dual-motor model is the quicker, more performance-oriented choice, while the single-motor version is the longer-range option.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, road-sign recognition, and driver alert. Blind-spot monitoring with steering support, cross-traffic alert, rear-collision warning and mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and the surround-view camera are part of the Pilot Pack, so base cars may leave you wanting more.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses a portrait-oriented touchscreen with Google built in, plus Google Play Store apps, OTA updates, and four USB-C outlets. The system is designed to work with non-Android phones as well, and the car includes three years of complimentary AT&T data service.
• Range & charging: The single-motor model is estimated at 265 miles of range, while the dual-motor model is estimated at 249 miles. The battery pack is 78 kWh, with 75 kWh of usable capacity, and DC fast charging can take about 33 minutes from 10% to 80%.
• Battery health: Check the battery state of health, confirm normal home-charging and DC fast-charging behavior, and review how much of the battery warranty remains. On a used EV, you want smooth charging, no range surprises, and no signs of degraded daily usability.

Which 2022 Polestar 2 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Polestar 2 is offered in 2 trim levels: Single Motor, Dual Motor.

Here's the short version:

• Single Motor: This is the better-value choice if you want the Polestar 2’s style, tech, and longer estimated range without paying for the extra performance of the dual-motor setup. It keeps the core luxury-EV experience intact and makes the most sense for buyers who care more about efficiency and everyday use than outright speed.
• Dual Motor: Choose this if you want the stronger acceleration and all-wheel-drive traction that make the Polestar 2 feel more athletic. It’s the more powerful, more premium-feeling version, but it makes the most sense if you’ll actually use the extra performance.

The safety package is incomplete on both trims unless you add the Pilot Pack, which is worth considering if you want the full driver-assistance suite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Polestar 2?

This is a buyer-friendly market for the 2022 Polestar 2, with strong deal availability and a meaningful year-over-year price drop.

• Deal availability: 41.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 337 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 20.28% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,548, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Polestar 2's resale value?

The current average of $20,550 sits slightly below last year's $25,778.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less favorable if you plan to sell soon. If you own one, the softer pricing means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment level.

The good news is that the model’s strong tech appeal and premium image can help support demand among used-EV shoppers. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should remain easier to move than stripped or neglected ones.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Polestar 2 safe?

The Polestar 2 has not been crash-tested by NHTSA or IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, road-sign recognition, and driver alert. Blind-spot monitoring with steering support, cross-traffic alert, rear-collision warning and mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and the surround-view camera are available through the Pilot Pack.

That means you should pay close attention to whether a used example has the optional safety package, since the standard setup is solid but not fully loaded.

Should I buy a 2022 Polestar 2 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 41.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 20.28% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds a lower-priced single-motor option and improved tech integration, while keeping the brand’s upscale EV mission front and center.

Consider the 2021 if:

• It offers a familiar Volvo-based EV feel with standard all-wheel drive and a more established first-year identity.

The bottom line: If you want the better shopping environment, the 2022 is the smarter pick because prices are down and inventory is healthy. If you’re focused on value and can find a well-kept earlier example, the 2021 can still make sense, especially if its standard AWD setup matters more to you than the 2022’s revised lineup.
