How much does the 2022 Nissan Sentra cost?

Prices have softened 5.65% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,653 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Nissan Sentra a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Nissan Sentra earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

The Sentra is a well-rounded compact sedan that leans into easy-to-use technology, comfort, and stylish design rather than trying to dominate one category. Its balanced approach makes it a sensible fit if you want an approachable small sedan that is easy to live with. The trade-off is that performance is fairly pedestrian, and some rivals offer more cargo space.

The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 34.5% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2022 Nissan Sentra reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Sentra’s reliability case is helped by its straightforward 2.0-liter four-cylinder setup, CVT, and front-wheel-drive layout, which keep the formula simple and familiar. The expert review also describes the transmission as managing power well, and the car as solid for commuting, driving around town, and the occasional road trip. Its five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty adds another layer of reassurance.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about complexity and more about making sure the car you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by heavy daily use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Nissan Sentra?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the transmission, brakes, tires, and any signs of uneven wear or poor repair work. It also helps to compare trim condition closely, since the Sentra’s value can vary meaningfully based on equipment and how well the cabin has held up.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S trim includes 16-inch steel wheels with plastic covers, halogen headlights, a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 4.2-inch driver’s display. The SV adds 16-inch alloy wheels, heated side mirrors, proximity keyless entry, premium cloth upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an 8-inch touchscreen. The SR adds 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, sport cloth seats with orange accent stitching, and a leather-wrapped shift knob.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 149 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive. The setup is tuned more for smooth, consistent commuting than for strong acceleration.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward and reverse automatic emergency braking, forward collision avoidance, pedestrian detection, driver drowsiness monitoring, lane-departure warning, and blind spot monitoring. Available extras include a surround-view parking monitor and adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: The base system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB connectivity, and Bluetooth. SV and SR trims upgrade to an 8-inch touchscreen. The system is easy to use, but it does not offer wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The Sentra returns 29 mpg city, 39 mpg highway, and 33 mpg combined. The SR returns 28 mpg city, 37 mpg highway, and 32 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Nissan Sentra trim should I buy?

The 2022 Nissan Sentra is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, SR.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value play if you want the lowest-cost way into the Sentra. You still get the core tech and safety basics, including the 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the standard driver-assistance suite.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 8-inch touchscreen, alloy wheels, heated side mirrors, proximity keyless entry, premium cloth upholstery, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel without pushing you into the highest-priced model.
• SR: Choose this if you want the most upscale appearance and the most equipment, including LED headlights, remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, and the sportier exterior and interior touches.

The standard safety package is strong across the lineup, so you do not need to move up trims just to get a solid set of driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Nissan Sentra?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,653 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.65% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 76.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,494, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Nissan Sentra's resale value?

The current average of $16,515 sits slightly below last year's $17,505.

That softer pricing suggests the Sentra has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices continue to ease. If you buy well now, you may benefit from the lower entry point, but resale gains are likely to depend on condition, mileage, and trim appeal more than broad market momentum. A clean history and strong equipment mix should help your car stand out later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Nissan Sentra safe?

The 2022 Nissan Sentra earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick award from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Sentra comes standard with forward and reverse automatic emergency braking, forward collision avoidance, pedestrian detection, driver drowsiness monitoring, lane-departure warning, and blind spot monitoring. Higher equipment levels can add a surround-view parking monitor and adaptive cruise control. One caveat is that the adaptive cruise control can brake abruptly when it closes in on traffic ahead, and the IIHS noted lower headlight ratings even though the car otherwise scored highly.

Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Sentra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.65% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 Sentra is the perfect entry point for Nissan, with balanced comfort, technology, and safety.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $15,032, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $16,515 average.
• It offers smart value with polished design and strong everyday appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year pricing trend, strong safety, and a well-rounded compact sedan, the 2022 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers many of the same core strengths.
