CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
overall

Summary
With 146 currently listed for sale near Tampa, FL and an average price of $42,740, 26.0% of 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
94.5% of 2022 E-Class models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out for offering something few cars in its class can match: a Cabriolet body style that gives it a distinctive open-air appeal. After a substantial refresh for the 2021 model year, the 2022 lineup changes little, which means it carries forward the updated look and feel while remaining focused on comfort and style rather than a major redesign.
For 2022, the biggest change is the cancellation of the AMG E63 and E63 S variants, and the lineup is left with turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder power plants. Automatic high-beam headlights are standard on all 2022 E-Class models, and rear USB charging ports are now standard equipment on the coupe and convertible body styles. A couple of new paint colors also join the palette, giving shoppers a few more ways to personalize the car.
That combination makes the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class appealing to buyers who want a refined luxury car with a more distinctive personality than the typical sedan. Its strengths are its upscale presentation, standard convenience features, and the rarity of its Cabriolet version, while its limitations are tied to the loss of the high-performance AMG V8 variants.

The E-class is the midsize line of Mercedes cars, so it’s fine for all sizes except for very tall and large people. The new inline six cylinder is my favorite engine because it has plenty of power and is fuel efficient. Overall, the quality is here and has been for years.

The E-class Mercedes Is the midsize car segment, and is large enough for many people who are not over 6’ 6” or more than 380 pounds in my estimation. Quality is noticed in interior seating and fit and finish. The relatively new Inline six cylinder engine has enough power with above average fuel economy. Other engines are available in four cylinder and eight cylinder variants.

Great value. 39K with 14K miles and in great condition with premium package. Took it to the Mercedes dealer for inspection and they said it was in great shape (tires, brakes, belts, filters, oil, fluid level, electronics, and even spark plugs). The interior was in pristine condition and the exterior is just as perfect.

| Year-Round High | $43,044 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $43,039 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.33% |

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 8.17/10. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.
The 2022 E-Class is aimed at you if you want a refined luxury car with a distinctive personality rather than a conventional sedan. The overview highlights its upscale presentation, standard convenience features, and the rarity of the Cabriolet body style, while the expert notes emphasize the updated look and feel carried over from the prior refresh.
Good and great deals make up 33.6% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview points to a car that leans into comfort, style, and a premium experience, while the expert notes describe it as a refined, well-equipped luxury model with a broad appeal. The performance notes also emphasize robust response from the turbocharged six-cylinder setup and the mild-hybrid system’s role in improving both power output and efficiency.
The cost-effectiveness notes add that you can tailor the car’s look and feel to your preferences, which can make ownership feel more personal and satisfying. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a highly optioned luxury convertible can be expensive to keep in top shape.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the roof mechanism, electronics, and any signs of wear from luxury features and open-air use. If you’re shopping a Cabriolet, pay extra attention to how well the top seals and operates.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup spans coupe, convertible, sedan, and station wagon body styles, and the E-Class can be configured from a more understated E350 setup to a more expressive AMG E53 Cabriolet. The base-style E350 is described as more invisible in its natural habitat, while the AMG version adds styling, larger wheels, a convertible top, and a more dramatic presence.
- Powertrain: Sedans come with an E350 designation tied to a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while E450 versions use a turbo 3.0-liter inline-six with EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology. The AMG-tuned version uses a 3.0-liter turbo-six with 429 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque, plus AMG Speedshift nine-speed automatic transmission and AMG Performance 4Matic+ variable AWD.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Mercedes Pre Safe, Pre Safe Sound, rain-sensing wipers with Magic Vision Control, and a surround-view camera system. Most other driver aids are bundled into the extra-cost Driver Assistance Package, which adds adaptive cruise control with Active Speed Limit Assist, Active Steering Assist, front automatic braking for cross traffic, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, and Pre Safe Plus.
- Infotainment: The E-Class uses MBUX with two 12.3-inch screens, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, WiFi service, and an augmented reality navigation overlay. A head-up display is also available, and the system can be controlled by touchscreen, center-console controls, steering-wheel touch controls, or voice.
- Fuel efficiency: The mild-hybrid setup is described as improving both power output and efficiency, but no MPG figure is stated.
Which 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 3 trim levels: E350, E450, and AMG E53.
Here's the short version:
- E350: This is the most straightforward choice if you want the E-Class experience with the turbocharged four-cylinder setup and a more restrained personality. It suits you if you care more about the upscale cabin and body-style variety than maximum performance.
- E450: This is the best-value trim if you want the stronger turbo 3.0-liter inline-six with EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology. It gives you robust acceleration and the full MBUX experience while staying below the AMG model’s price and intensity.
- AMG E53: Choose this if you want the most engaging version in the lineup, with 429 horsepower, AMG-tuned suspension, AMG performance exhaust, and the more dramatic AMG styling. It’s the right pick if you want the convertible to feel special and you’re willing to pay for it.
Most other safety features are bundled into the extra-cost Driver Assistance Package, so check whether a used example has it before you buy.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough pricing softness to create opportunities.
- Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,023 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.33% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 84.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $39,856, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $39,882 sits slightly below last year's $43,039.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently today. If you plan to sell later, the current softness may limit near-term upside, but it can also make the car more accessible to a wider pool of future buyers. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should still hold attention better than stripped or heavily worn ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns top marks from both major crash-test organizations, including a Top Safety Pick+ result and five-star ratings from NHTSA.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The E-Class comes standard with forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Mercedes Pre Safe, and Pre Safe Sound. The Cabriolet also adds pop-up rollbars for rollover protection, and the AMG E53 includes Active Parking Assist and a surround-view camera system.
Most advanced driver aids are part of the extra-cost Driver Assistance Package, which adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assistance, lane-keeping support, blind-spot assist, evasive steering assist, and rear-collision preparation. If you’re shopping used, make sure the car you’re considering has that package if those features matter to you.
Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.33% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 lineup keeps the refreshed look and feel while adding standard automatic high-beam headlights and rear USB charging ports on coupe and convertible body styles.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $35,881, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $39,882 average.
- It offers four body styles, four engines, and a broad mix of luxury and versatility.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2022 if you want the updated E-Class experience, strong owner satisfaction, and a market that has softened enough to create buying opportunities. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the better value path, especially if you’re comfortable giving up some of the 2022’s incremental equipment changes.
