What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda MAZDA3?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any car you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can check for wear, electronics issues, and signs of poor maintenance. Focus especially on whether the car’s condition matches its mileage and asking price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes sedan and hatchback body styles, with the 2.0 sedan, 2.5 S, and 2.5 Turbo model series. The 2.5 S lineup offers the most variety, while the 2.5 S Premium hatchback is the only version with a six-speed manual transmission. Base versions are more limited in drivetrain and feature choices.
• Powertrain: You can get a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 155 horsepower, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 186 horsepower, or a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with up to 250 horsepower on premium fuel. Front-wheel drive is standard on most versions, with all-wheel drive available on the 2.5 S and standard on Turbo models.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is added on the 2.5 S Select trim or higher, while Turbo models add adaptive front headlights and the top trim adds Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses an 8.8-inch static display, steering wheel controls, and voice recognition. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, and Mazda Connected Services is complimentary for three years with remote engine start, car finder, Wi-Fi hotspot access, and automatic emergency notification.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter engine returns 31 mpg in combined driving, the 2.5 S range lands between 27 mpg and 30 mpg combined depending on trim and powertrain, and Turbo models return 26 mpg in the hatchback or 27 mpg in the sedan.

Which 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 is offered in 5 trim levels: 2.0, 2.5 S, 2.5 S Select, 2.5 S Premium, and 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus.

Here's the short version:

• 2.0: This is the entry point if you want the lowest starting price and the simplest way into the Mazda3 lineup, but it is also the most basic version.
• 2.5 S: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it opens up the broader 2.5 S lineup, gives you more power than the 2.0, and keeps the car’s core style and driving appeal intact.
• 2.5 S Select: Choose this if you want a better safety setup, since it adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• 2.5 S Premium: This is the one to target if you want the manual transmission in the hatchback and a more enthusiast-friendly setup.
• 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus: Pick this if you want the strongest performance and the most equipment, including adaptive front headlights, Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.

The safety package starts with adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights, with blind-spot monitoring added on the 2.5 S Select trim or higher.

Should I buy a 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?

• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.82% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds fresh updates like the Carbon Edition, Turbo wiper de-icer, and a new paint color.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,050, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $20,669 average.
• It emphasizes engaging driving with a more mature, refined personality.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $21,920, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $20,669 average.
