What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda MAZDA3?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the car’s condition, especially if you are considering a higher-trim or turbo model. Pay close attention to how the technology, interior controls, and braking feel in real-world use, since those are the areas most likely to shape your day-to-day satisfaction.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes affordable Mazda3 2.0, popular Mazda3 2.5 S, and speedy Mazda3 2.5 Turbo model series. The 2.5 S lineup offers five trim levels and a choice between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, while the 2.5 S Premium hatchback is the only one with a six-speed manual transmission. The base setup is the most value-focused, while the higher trims add more equipment and a more upscale feel.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, while the 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 186 hp and 186 lb-ft. The turbocharged 2.5-liter adds much stronger output, with 227 hp and 310 lb-ft on 87-octane fuel or 250 hp and 320 lb-ft on 93-octane fuel. The non-turbo versions are the better fit if you want a simpler, more efficiency-minded setup.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert comes on the 2.5 S Select trim or higher. Turbo models add adaptive front headlights, and the top trim adds Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses an 8.8-inch static infotainment display, steering wheel controls, and voice recognition. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, and Mazda Connected Services is complimentary for three years with remote engine start and car-finder functions. The system’s lack of a physical tuning function and its voice-command setup are worth testing before you buy.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter model returns 31 mpg in combined driving. The 2.5 S range runs between 27 mpg and 30 mpg in combined driving, depending on trim and powertrain. Turbo models return 26 mpg in the hatchback or 27 mpg in the sedan in combined driving.

Which 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 is offered in 8 trim levels: Mazda3 2.0, Mazda3 2.5 S, Mazda3 2.5 S Select, Mazda3 2.5 S Preferred, Mazda3 2.5 S Carbon Edition, Mazda3 2.5 S Premium, Mazda3 2.5 Turbo, Mazda3 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus.

Here's the short version:

• Mazda3 2.0: This is the entry point if you want the lowest starting price and the simplest path into the lineup. It makes sense if you care most about value and can live without the extra equipment and power of the higher trims.
• Mazda3 2.5 S: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds the stronger 2.5-liter engine and opens the door to more equipment and drivetrain choices. It gives you the broadest balance of price, features, and everyday usability.
• Mazda3 2.5 S Select: Choose this if you want the safety upgrade that adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. It is a smart step up if safety tech matters more to you than chasing the lowest price.
• Mazda3 2.5 S Preferred: This trim is for buyers who want a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to the turbo models. It should appeal if comfort and refinement matter more than maximum performance.
• Mazda3 2.5 S Carbon Edition: This is the style-forward pick, highlighted by Polymetal Gray paint, black 18-inch alloy wheels, black mirror caps, and a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system. It suits you if you want a more distinctive look and richer audio.
• Mazda3 2.5 S Premium: This is the trim to target if you want the manual transmission in the hatchback. It is the enthusiast-friendly choice in the non-turbo lineup.
• Mazda3 2.5 Turbo: Pick this if you want the strongest performance and standard AWD. It is the right move if driving enjoyment matters more than fuel economy.
• Mazda3 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus: This is the top trim for buyers who want the most advanced equipment, including Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.

The safety package is strongest once you move beyond the 2.5 S Select trim, where blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert join the standard driver-assistance suite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mazda MAZDA3?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 671 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.14% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,855, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3's resale value?

The current average of $20,675 sits slightly below last year's $21,128.

That softer pricing trend suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can make it harder for a future seller to command a premium unless the car is especially well kept. On the other hand, the current price level may help you buy at a more realistic entry point today. Strong condition, desirable trim content, and clean history should matter more when it comes time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 safe?

The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment, including rollover resistance, and the IIHS names it a Top Safety Pick+.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts. Standard driver-assistance equipment includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert arrives on the 2.5 S Select trim or higher, while turbo models add adaptive front headlights and the top trim adds Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system. The main caveat is that Traffic Jam Assist was not evaluated in heavy traffic, so its real-world usefulness may vary.

Should I buy a 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.14% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• This year adds the Carbon Edition, a standard wiper de-icer on Turbo models, and a new paint color.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,112, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $20,675 average.
• It emphasizes turbocharged refinement and upscale driving enjoyment.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $22,099, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $20,675 average.
• It leans harder into upscale comfort and hatchback practicality.

The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the best mix of price, safety, and feature content. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2021 is the better value play; if you want a more premium-feeling small car and can spend more, the 2023 is worth a look.
