FAQs
The Maserati MC20 has been long in the making, and the automaker didn’t make it any easier to wait, with multiple teases and promises. The car that we’ll end up with will be worth the wait, however, as the MC20 is the result of a Maserati ground-up design with help from a company called Dallara, who collaborated with the automaker on its chassis and subframe structure. The car is offered as either a coupe or convertible, with both getting the same powertrain and options.
Maserati used to be the "almost-Ferrari" brand since many of its powertrains were derived from the prancing horse’s stable of screaming engines. Since Ferrari is no longer part of the Stellantis (formerly Fiat Chrysler) family, that’s not an option. Instead, the car is powered by a brand-new twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine named Nettuno. The powerplant is good for 621 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. If those numbers sound stout, it’s because they are. Maserati claims a 0-60 mph time of under three seconds.
The MC20’s interior is tidy and fairly simple. Leather upholstery with contrast stitching, a healthy dose of carbon fiber, aluminum sport pedals, and straightforward controls are all part of the package. The car’s infotainment system is a revised version of Uconnect that powers most other Stellantis vehicles. It runs on a 10.3-inch screen that also includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Few advanced safety features are available for the car and it has not yet been crash-tested by either the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Blind-spot monitoring can be added for an additional charge. One big step Maserati did take to improve the typically horrible supercar visibility problem was to add a rear-view mirror camera monitor system that projects a picture of what’s going on behind the car.
The 2022 Maserati MC20 debuted in 2020, but a firm release date has not yet been announced. The car’s starting price should land at a bit over $210,000 for the coupe and at around $250,000 for the MC20 Convertible.
