Used 2022 MINI Cooper for Sale near New York

How much does the 2022 MINI Cooper cost?

Prices have softened 3.11% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 476 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 MINI Cooper a good car?

Yes — the 2022 MINI Cooper earns a 5/5 user rating and a 5.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 7/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

It stands out as a purpose-built small car with a strong emphasis on personalization, and it leans into premium small-car engineering and technology. That makes it a good fit if you want something tailored rather than generic.

The trade-offs are clear: the base engine is underwhelming, cargo space is limited, and value for money is not one of its strengths. Even so, the car’s distinctive character and broad customization appeal can outweigh those compromises if you prioritize personality and tech over practicality.

Good and great deals account for 38.2% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2022 MINI Cooper reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2022 MINI Cooper is described as a premium small car built on BMW-based engineering, BMW engines, and BMW technology, which supports its reputation for a more upscale feel. It is also presented as more technologically advanced than ever, which can matter if you want a modern-feeling used car.

Its dependability story is tied more to its engineering and ownership experience than to any broad durability claim. The available performance and cost-effectiveness notes also suggest a car that rewards buyers who value character and equipment, rather than one built around low running costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a premium, highly optioned small car can be more expensive to live with if you need repairs or replacement parts.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 MINI Cooper?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or heavily optioned. Focus on overall condition, because this model’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been maintained and equipped.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup emphasizes personalization, with Cooper, Cooper S, and John Cooper Works specifications, plus Classic, Signature, or Iconic trim. Base versions are less compelling if you want the richer equipment and stronger overall feel this car is known for.
• Powertrain: The Cooper uses a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, while the Cooper S steps up to a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and the John Cooper Works version adds more power still. The base engine is the weakest point, so powertrain choice matters a lot.
• Safety package: Driving Assistant is standard and includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Adaptive cruise control is available only with an automatic transmission, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is not available.
• Infotainment: The standard setup includes an 8.8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and BMW-based connected services. Android Auto isn’t available, while navigation, wireless smartphone charging, and a Harman Kardon sound system are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The model is described as fuel-efficient, and the Cooper test car averaged 27.1 mpg in testing.

Which 2022 MINI Cooper trim should I buy?

The 2022 MINI Cooper is offered in 3 trim levels: Cooper, Cooper S, and John Cooper Works.

Here's the short version:

• Cooper: This is the entry point, but it’s also the trim most affected by the underwhelming base engine. It makes sense only if you want the lowest-cost way into the MINI experience and are comfortable giving up performance.
• Cooper S: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds the stronger turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and better overall performance balance. If you want the MINI personality without settling for the weakest engine, this is the trim to target.
• John Cooper Works: Choose this if you want the most powerful, enthusiast-focused version of the lineup. It’s the right pick if performance matters more to you than value.

Driving Assistant is standard, but adaptive cruise control is only available with an automatic transmission, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is not available.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 MINI Cooper?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it’s worth shopping carefully and comparing listings.

• Deal availability: 38.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 476 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.11% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,333, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 MINI Cooper's resale value?

The current average of $23,181 sits slightly below last year's $23,925.

That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you as a buyer now but may temper resale gains later. If you buy at the right price, you reduce the risk of taking a hit when it’s time to sell.

The year-round range also shows that values have room to move, so condition and equipment will matter when you eventually list the car. A well-kept example with desirable options should be easier to move than a stripped or worn one.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 MINI Cooper safe?

The 2022 MINI Cooper earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

It gets newly standard Driving Assistant technology for 2022, including forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Adaptive cruise control is available with an automatic transmission, and it can bring the car to a full stop.

A blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert is not available, which is worth noting if you often drive in tight traffic or back out of crowded parking spaces. Since crash-test ratings have not been published for this model, you should lean heavily on the available driver-assistance equipment and the car’s condition when shopping used.

Should I buy a 2022 MINI Cooper or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 38.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.11% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It emphasizes personalization, BMW-based engineering, and more advanced technology.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,051, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,181 average.
• It leans hard into personality and offers several body styles.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $25,589, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $23,181 average.
• It adds a limited-run Resolute Edition and extra paint choices.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and satisfaction, the 2022 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 can save you money, while the 2023 makes sense only if you want the newer special-edition appeal and are willing to pay more.
