Used 2022 Land Rover Defender for Sale nearSalt Lake City, UT

How much does the 2022 Land Rover Defender cost?

Prices have softened 15.05% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,277 listings available, which suggests you have a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Land Rover Defender a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Land Rover Defender earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Form and function.

It stands out by blending rugged off-road character with modern tech and road manners, and it is available in two-door 90 and four-door 110 body styles. That makes it a strong fit if you want a vehicle that feels more versatile than a traditional off-roader while still keeping a distinctive identity.

The main trade-offs are sluggish touchscreen response and poor fuel economy. It also asks you to accept that advanced safety features are not standard.

Even so, 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Land Rover Defender reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Defender’s appeal comes from its mix of rugged capability and everyday usability, and the expert review reinforces that balance. It has the ingredients you want for hard use, including four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case, strong off-road geometry, and substantial ground clearance.

Its powertrains are described as refined and unintrusive in the lower versions, while the V8 adds serious performance. The cost-effectiveness section also notes a four-year, 50,000-mile new-car limited warranty, plus four years of roadside assistance and six years of corrosion coverage with unlimited mileage.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a vehicle built for capability can be expensive to keep in top shape if it has been used hard or neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Land Rover Defender?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, because a clean listing percentage does not replace documentation. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks for signs of off-road use, tire wear, suspension condition, and any electrical or infotainment issues. Focus on overall condition first, then make sure the equipment level matches what you expect for the price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Defender keeps its rugged look and modern cabin, but the base model is more stripped down than higher trims. The interior design emphasizes durability, and higher-end versions add more upscale materials and equipment.
• Powertrain: Base models use a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, the mid-level option is a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six mild-hybrid, and a V8 is available for buyers who want much stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assist tech includes lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, and traffic-sign recognition with speed-limit adapter. Blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control are optional.
• Infotainment: The standard system uses a 10-inch central touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and an 11.4-inch touchscreen is newly available. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is standard on every trim level except the base model.
• Fuel efficiency: The base four-cylinder is rated at 19 mpg combined, the six-cylinder mild hybrid is also rated at 19 mpg combined, and the V8 drops to 16 mpg combined in the Defender 90.

Which 2022 Land Rover Defender trim should I buy?

The 2022 Land Rover Defender is offered in 5 trim levels: Defender 90, Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE, Defender 90 X-Dynamic HSE, Defender 90 V8, and Defender 90 V8 Carpathian Edition.

Here's the short version:

• Defender 90: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Defender’s core character at the lowest price. It is the best-value choice if you want the basic formula and can live without the extra equipment found higher up.
• Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE: This trim adds more equipment and is a sensible step up if you want a better-balanced mix of features and price.
• Defender 90 X-Dynamic HSE: This is the more upscale non-V8 choice, and it suits you if you want a richer feature set without jumping to the most expensive powertrain.
• Defender 90 V8: This is the performance pick, with the strongest acceleration and extra hardware to match. Choose it if you want the most dramatic driving experience.
• Defender 90 V8 Carpathian Edition: This is the top-end version, aimed at buyers who want the V8 plus the most exclusive presentation.

Blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control remain optional, so check the exact equipment list on any trim you consider.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Land Rover Defender?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,277 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.05% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 89.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $44,002, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Land Rover Defender's resale value?

The current average of $44,008 sits slightly below last year's $51,802.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment level rather than just the badge.

Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold up better than neglected ones, especially because the Defender has a strong identity and broad appeal. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Land Rover Defender safe?

The 2022 Land Rover Defender earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assist tech includes lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, and traffic-sign recognition with speed-limit adapter. Blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control are optional, so you should confirm whether a used example has the safety equipment you want.

One important caveat is that the available safety tech is not as generous as it could be for a luxury SUV, and some key features are not standard.

Should I buy a 2022 Land Rover Defender or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.05% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 adds a new optional 11.4-inch touchscreen, standard wireless phone charging, and an expanded trim lineup.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $40,286, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $44,008 average.
• It emphasizes serious off-road capability with broad everyday usability.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $52,316, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $44,008 average.
• It adds the extended Defender 130 for more practicality.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and updated equipment, the 2022 is the primary year to target. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2021 is the better value play, while the 2023 makes sense only if you specifically want the newer body-style expansion and are willing to pay more.
